Are you going to make this one? I know it's a haul, but it's worth considering:thinking:

It wasn't a defensive struggle. The defense played good the entire game and held them to 7 points. Defensive struggle?

Somehow finally stumbled onto this site a few days ago and figured it was time to dive in!
Here is how I see it after watching the Bulls all year and never having seen LH. The Bulls have played to about 70% of their ability in the playoffs at best. That is, until the last quarter and a half of the Monahans game. If the switch has been flipped, then no one will blow us out. If the Bulls bring it at full capacity and get a break or two, they can win. If not, then it will be a short and boring night of football in Waco. The bottom line is that this really doesn't need to be debated since the facts will be firmly established Saturday night. I, for one, am very thankful that we are playing Liberty Hill so no one will have to wonder about the outcome any longer. Am I the only one who feels like this is going to be the longest week ever?!!
One more thing. The Slot-T is BORING!!!! Note, I did not say that LH is boring. Obviously, kicking the crap out of people is fun no matter what. In fact, the ultimate fun may be dominating someone by running one play and announcing it over the PA before each snap!!! However, the Slot-T offense alone is miserable to watch to the average fan!! Just an opinion.

Nice first post, BigBully. Welcome to the 3ADL--glad to have you as one of the Bull faithfull. Don't expect many flowers from the LH folks for calling the Slot-T boring, though. :D

This is my first post, and may well be my last. I have really enjoyed reading all your contributions......well, most of them anyway :) .....during this season. I doubt I can add to the knowledge base of this elite group, but I just wanted to offer my perspective on a few things.
Some of the posts on both sides relative to Liberty Hill vs. The Bulls are obviously a little over the top, and most are all in good fun. I have watched the Bulls all year, and here are some of my thoughts about the team, the past performance, and the LH game.
First, regarding Bridgeport's offense: The twin engines that drive this team behind the fine O-line are the Green brothers, Cameron at QB, and Corbin at RB. If they are healthy for Liberty Hill....and that seems to be a big "IF" after watching the Monahans game.....then the Bulls can put some offensive pressure on LH, and anybody else, for that matter.. Cameron was hurt on their first offensive play against Monahans, and I know he had to be operating at less than 50% capability the rest of the game, but that kid showed a lot of guts. I have nothing but admiration for what he did. Had he been able to operate at full effectiveness, I don't think the game would have come down to overtime. It remains to be seen as to whether he can recover by Saturday, and as to what level he will be able to play..
Corbin had to be carried off the field following a leg injury, and it did not look good. If these two guys can't play, or are reduced to a fraction of their abilities, the Bulls' outlook seems pretty diminished to me.
Secondly, re: Bridgeport's defense: They had stretches against Llano and Monahans where they simply did not stop anybody. Late in the game, when everything was on the line, it seemed the defense found another gear, and played some slobber-knocking football. Burkburnett had a good running game, and the Bulls hit them in the mouth right out of the gate, played super defense, and shut their ground game down.
Obviously, LH has a better running attack than anyone the Bulls have faced to date, and if the Bulls D doesn't step up from the opening series, it is going to be a long night. Liberty Hill has been there and done it, and they are due a lot of respect in terms of their on-the-field performance. Bottom line in my opinion is that if the Green boys are at full strength it will be competitive. If they are not at full strength, I have doubts the Bull D will be able to keep the game close.
However, we all know everyone has to play the hand they are dealt, and whatever the case, the Bulls will play with pride and class, and they will represent themselves very well....they have done so all year, and there isn't any quit in them!
GO BULLS!!! I will be there to see it!

A defensive struggle is a game that is being dominated by both defenses. This was pretty much the case in the first half.

That is too bad about the Green brothers. I hope they have a speedy recovery and are at full strength Saturday. All these kids work so hard and you hate to see injuries.
We do have fun on this board. Me personally, I mostly read and rarely post. Sometimes things get out of hand. Especially this time of year. We have to remember that these are kids on that field. Regardless of the outcome, these kids will remember these experiences the rest of their lives.
I salute Bridgeport for having such a great year. It takes a lot to run the table during the season. My hat is off to them.
I am biased and feel that Liberty Hill will win this game. It should be a good one.
Let's keep it as civil as we can this week. ;) Let's have some fun in the name of passing time until Saturday. Good luck to both teams.
Let's Get it on.!!

Ok, we got a little bit of info. Can we get more?
We know stats don't matter, but lets hear what Bridgeport will bring to the game, player and stats wise...
What type of offense? Who should the LH fans watch for in warmups and during the game?
How about defense? Same as above, who should us fans look for?
Any two way starters? How many, and what positions?
Thanks!!!

Harris Ratings has Bridgeport by 4.
I'm very surprised about that.
Bridgeport has not been the same since it whipped Decatur a month ago. It's as if the bye week has left some ill effect from not playing the first round of the playoffs.
LH by two scores

Here is my take. LH is somewhat susceptible to a highly effective passing game and that could play to the Bulls strength. The Panthers are stellar against the run. The best passing team we have seen all year is Brownwood, hands down. They had a great QB and 6’4 receivers. It wasn’t so much that our secondary didn’t cover well, most of the time they had good position. The problem was they were just so much taller and athletic that it was hard for our 5’11 boys to matchup. I’m anxious to see what the Bridgeport receivers look like on film. LH does a good job of keeping pressure on the QB and being very quick and physical. It will be interesting to see who controls the line of scrimmage. I don’t think LH can keep Bridgeport from scoring but I think they can keep them off their timing enough to get the job done.
Looking at the game between Llano and Bridgeport, I don’t think the Bulls have the defensive might to stop the Panthers. LH is quicker off the ball than Llano and blocks much better. LH should be able to put enough points on the board to win.
This is my first impression, I may change my mind after looking at some film.

Well it would appear that Liberty Hill is the underdog. I’m sure that little tidbit of information will go a long way into putting a fire in the belly of the Panthers.

I remember seeing Liberty Hill back in 2003 when they lost to Port Isabel in Seguin and was really impressed then and knew they would be trouble in the future. Coach Vance has done a fantastic job there turning that program into a perennial power. I've got to take the Panthers in this one 42-28 but it should be a good one.

Polls are worthless. Anyone who follows 3A football closely knows that the Bulls are the dogs, just the way we want it.

And there going to have to do it consistently all game! Not just the first quarter, or even the first half. Liberty Hill is notorious for being a powerhouse in the 4th quarter.
Well lets see... after the monahans game i would say we have a pretty good fourth quarter team ;)
A good defense against run teams but unless im mistaken they did allow 49 points against brownwood who was the only good spread team they played... granted it was in the begging half of the season... but still that's the most points they allowed all season.
And yes one stop will make a huge impact on the game... ask monahans about that one..

I'd say damn, the end of a great streak is over with. Every other team in the state dreams of acheiving half of what LH has accomplished in the past 4-5 years. Our kids can hold their heads high and say eventually it had to happen, atleast there's no question who was better. But look at the bright side, at the end of the season, our kids will still be walking around with 1 more ring on their fingers than yours though:p

Everybody in 3A wants to be the team that finally beats LH. Every team has a plan that is unstoppable and the players to carry out that plan. I have watched hundreds of games over the years, but I have only seen one team that had the pure dedication to the system and discipline to play in that system every play. In the LH scheme, there are no stars, just 40 something kids that play as a full unit all the time. From the runner with 100 yeards rushing, to the lineman 30 yards downfield making a block, to the receiver that almost never catches the ball, to the punter that is like the Maytag repairman, each has a job and each give 100 percent to that job. The great undefeated Daingerfield team of the 80's was that kind of team also.
If Bridgeport wins, it will be because they played 100 percent within their system and no one on the team let up for a single play. Can it be done, yes!
Bridgeport has the type offense that can get to LH if they play the system and don't get too cute with the passing game. Don't try and beat LH long all night or you will suffer. Beat them with the short routes, like quick slants and quick outs. Settle for 5-7 yard completitions and hope that a few get turned into big gains. Don't get in 2nd and 10 or third and 8 situations as the Lh defense will be in your backfield like jock itch in a dirty jock.
I don't know if Bridgeport has the discipline to play the controlled game it will take, the kids will answer that on the field. I do know that LH can play that way and has on a regular basis for almost three years.
Good luck to both and whoever comes home the winner will be the team that should win the state championship.

Considering my comment wasn't even towards Celina, you should wake up and read what MN95 actually wrote. He wrote that he cannot believe that teams like yourself, always label Celina and LH as overly confident when all we have done week in and week out is beat the opponents that have been put in front of us, yet teams like Bridgeport still think we have never seen anything like what you bring to the table, when in fact we've seen the best more times than we can possibly count. And I'm not living my life through a single stinkin' kid out there, you just can't stand that the end is near and there is absolutly nothing you can do about it. Every single other Bridgeport supporter on this great message board realizes that all I do is poke fun, because that's all there is to do here; talk football and get under each others skin in a friendly manner is all we can do. Because come game day, we have absolutly nothing to do with what goes on between the lines, Those kids could give a damn less what anyone in the stands or on here thinks about them or their opponent, all they want to do is beat the snot outta the kid across from them. And up to this very day right now, we have done that succesfully 37 friggin times in a row, so forgive ME and anyone else that thinks LH is going to win. We are just as biased for our Panthers as you are for you Bulls.

Not that they will but if, and a big IF it is, they will dust off, shake hands, say great run 37 in a row, and Coach Vance will start working on next year. I expect nothing less than pure class from these boys win or lose.

Thats excellent, MamaBull..I only have daughters, but I had 3 nephews on the '04 team, and 2 nephews on the '05 Championship Team. It is special beyond belief...football in December is incredible...I can only imagine the great ride the LH fans are having, especially someone like LHPantherMom, who has had a son on both the '06 and '07 teams...and the '08 team as well...with more coming in the future years!!!
I bet your town is abuzz with excitement...even in the grocery store and at the gas stations...it's all you talk about, right?! Enjoy it...it's just too much fun.
Here in Wimberley, we hope to get back to being a contender in a couple of years...for now, we just get to play the eventual champs (we played both LH and Liberty-Eylau in '06, LH in '07 and this year as well). Of course I am rooting for our fellow district team LH, but it's always good to see a pumped up underdog come into the fight with their head held high. Good luck.

OK..I watched this video as well...and I am impressed with BP's play. This is much better than the last video. If you execute like this, you'll have a decent shot at beating LH...except for one thing...you can't let LH score as much as Monahans did. Their defense will shut you down. In other words, a low scoring game (at least on LH's part), gives you your best chance, IMO.

After watching both films and the Llano game, I still don't think I've seen that big offensive line cave in one single time. They are a very good group. In the Llano game, it looked like Llano used what speed they had to get around the end of 'em and that worked better for them in the second half, hopefully the LH Defensive End's can do the same.
What scares me if I was a Bridgeport fan is that in the Llano game and the Monohans game, both of those teams effectively ran up the middle for a good portion of the game. And no disrespect to either of those team, but you can put their offenses together and it's not going to equal the 11 guys that LH brings to that side of the ball every snap. Little Fickel #33 has had somewhat of a slow past 2 weeks, look for him to have his best game of the playoffs this week. And just when you can't take anymore of #33, Boyd and McCain are going to do you dirty like they did Sweetwater right before the half:D

I think the story of the game will be how well the defenses play the other team's offense.(Duh...:D) Bear in mind I don't claim to be a coach, and this is just 1 fan's ideas on how each team might have success defensing the other.
Liberty Hill must be able to cover the entire field, sideline to sideline and vertically against the Bull "O" as they will stretch the field on every play and cause the LH defenders have to cover and tackle 1-on-1 in open space on every play. It will be hard for the DB's and LB's to provide run support as they will be running in pass coverage on nearly every play. It is extremely hard to gang-tackle against the Bull "O". The Bull QB and RB take advantage very quickly of these open spaces when they are created and run thru and to them very fast. The Bull receivers find these open spaces in their patterns on pass plays and must be kept from getting any YAC--which they are trained to do.
The Bull "D" will have to diagnose quickly where the ball is going-----a task that has been extremely hard for defenses to do in the past because LH disguises their plays and runs their offense so efficiently and block so well. Defenders will also have to defeat blocks by the excellent LH "O" line and strip and clog the holes at the point of attack and allow the tackle to be made quickly by the pursuit. I think they will have to take some chances occasionally and get penetration by shooting a LB or DB to stop the LH runners before they get to the line---possibly by running them down from the backside or laterally as they did in the 4th quarter against Monahans.
Both of these "D's" are very capable of testing the "O" of the other. The play calling will be extremely critical in this game. He who guesses wrong the most with the defensive schemes will have a hard time winning this game.

The Liberty Hill Defense is really about creating havoc. Shut down the run. Get the QB scrambling around and force him into making bad decisions. If you see this happening Saturday, it will be a long day for BP. However, if the BP O line can withstand the pressure, they can have some success with the short pass game (i.e. screens, crosses, etc.).
It should be interesting. I also believe that as talented as both offenses are, defense will decide this game. How good is BP's punter? ;)

Well, for the few times that we have had to punt---the punter has been excellent---directional and gets lots of roll . I think he had a 70-yarder against Monahans.

The problem with that, like you said is that you are taking a big "chance". One mistake and we are gone, the most important thing is your defensive line. If they can give our offensive line problems than you will be in this game till the very end. More important than your LB's and your DB's is your Defensive Line, if they are getting pushed around like they did against Llano, it doesn't matter how good your defensive backfield is, they are going to get toasted up and down the field.
Against the Slot-T, (and some people might disagree with me on this one) but I don't think the LB's play a critical role, only because they are never in an "attacking position". Every stinking play they are breaking down trying to find the ball, and by the time the RB is to them they either rap up and fall backwards and make the tackle, or they try to arm tackle and now it's one on one with a FS.
You're linebackers might be studs, who knows? But no linebacker looks good if our offensive line is flying off the ball and getting right through your defensive line, we will win that battle every stinking time.

Daddy D1 I think you have a great assessment. If the Bulls can stay low and get some penetration they will be in this game, if not it will be over early. As far as the linebacker matchup, I think Bridgeport's LB's are very good, I wouldn't say studs, but I think your two backers are better than their two. I have seen ya'll play twice and them play twice and if I had to pick I would take your two

couldn't agree with you more- your D-line has to get penetration, and you have to put a hat on every offensive blocker, then hope that someone can get off the block, or your db's can step up and make the tackles

Wow, you Bulls are the best at everything. A punter who can punt 70 yards, an O-line that can’t be penetrated, a QB that can scramble and throw on the run, receivers that can’t be brought down after they catch the ball, running backs that take advantage of any open space. I’m sure you must have a kicker who can kick 60 yarders too. A defense that will shoot the gaps and make tackles before the RB can get to the line of scrimmage, maybe even before the ball is snapped (that’s how quick they are), running down people from the backside.
Again Wow. No wonder we are the underdog going into this game. I wonder if the Panthers should even show up and play. I mean we have never seen anything like Bulls before.

The Bridgeport Offense is all about keeping the D on its heels. The D is constantly having to guess as to what's coming next from the balanced attack this Bull's team has had all year. The Bulls O-line is the strength of the offense and can both run block and pass block equally well. They are also very accustomed to pressure and I would be very surprised if your D put any more pressure on them than Prosper, Burk, or Argyle did.
I completely agree that Defense will decide this game and I truly believe that ours will come up big in this one.
Our punter averages over 50 yds per punt.

Our defense will definitely have to react quick and more importantly will have to win those open field tackles. Missed tackles and an extra 5 yards is what obviously keeps the chains moving. I know I'm biased Budman, but I just have to give the edge to Lattimore and Company. This defensive group sees balanced spread attacks almost every week, and anyone is stupid if they say that we absolutely shut every single one of them out. But what this defense does do is BEND but not BREAK.
LH's defense has seen the spread numerous times, you forget that for the past 2 years when your kids are playing hoops on the hardwood, we've compiled an EXTRA 11 games for these kids. That's a whole heck of a lot of extra games for this defense facing the spread. While on the other hand, Bridgeport has faced (1) Slot-T team in Llano. So you're definitley at an advantage over most other teams, most other teams have never faced it at all. But our defense will be at it's normal task of keeping a high octane offensive attack at bay. While yours will be facing an offensive scheme that it's never seen before. If you were a betting man you'd have to take that LH defense over the Bulls defense. BUT, you never know right?

But at the same time all we have heard from the all mighty panthers is how the slot-t is gods gift to football and it is never going to be stopped... heck why even finish the playoffs lets just give them the rings so we don't embarrass our selves against it...
Every Bridgeport poster has seen the season and how well the team has done and as of now we are the best of the teams we have played. LH Posters have the same bias just about 2 more years of throwing it out there...
We are both considered the best by our fans because they are dedicated to the teams. I personally feel that liberty hill IS the best at running the slot-t it... they have won 2 championships with it. But i also believe we are one of the best spread teams in the state, with a pretty salty defense. Otherwise we wouldn't have the chance to be playing right now. It will be a battle of the titans, let it go and lets talk about the game.

good post and seriously - whoever loses - I hope the other teams posters continue to post on the downlow - we've all lost a game at one time or another and had to make the 1st post after the loss - I ain't gonna lie - it's hard... it hurts...... but after a while, you get over it. I sure as heck will be here Sunday whether Cuero wins or loses - I can guarantee this though - if you see me posting at 1:00 am - it's cause we won :) If you don't see me until after noon on Sunday - well............

I think this game will be way closer than LH fans think. I will give credit they have a great program but how many of their trash talkers will man up on here when the bulls win. And how many will get on here and say the refs cost us the game like the loboes did. Both teams are great on both sides of the ball, should be a great game cant wait to see it. Good luck to both teams.

Bridgeport 10 - 0 PF488 PA165
Liberty Hill 10 - 0 PF432 PA174
And LH says Bridgeports O is overated. Go to the website that shows the strength of schedule. Bridgeports had a lot harder schedule and it looks like we scored 56 more points and gave up 9 fewer. I would say in at least half the games Bridgeports starters didnt even play in the 2nd half. Sure looks to me like this is going to be the best game of the year.

Very Little. I watched the Mineral Wells stuff (they are 1-9 by the way) Mineral Wells D lineman were dropping into coverage...terrible team. They had a nice staduim though.
I also saw a little of the Monohans stuff. Good hitting on both sides. Monohans ran at will and for some reason decided to pass. B'port's qb never seemed pressured and got the ball to the open receivers.

The think I did notice about B'port was they none of their skill players were that big. The qb was small...the rb was a little bigger than the qb. #3 has good hands. But, the only size that was any different than status quo was their Lineman. They were a bit larger than the norm.

Our WR's are not big by your standards, but they tend to show up in the darndest places like in the other team's endzone or across the first down marker.

Most of our guys are cut out of a similar mold. Probably the most striking thing about the Panthers is nobody carries around a big belly. Lean and mean!
