I got this update from the Wacotrib. It looks like it might be another OT game in the works.

OMG what a game

Cy Ridge 13 8 7 20 --- 48
Copperas Cove 0 21 17 17 --- 55

WACO — Providing a remarkable finish to an unbelievable game, Copperas Cove quarterback Nic Greene threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Josh Boyce with nine seconds left to give the Bulldogs a 55-48 win over Cypress Ridge on Friday at Waco ISD Stadium.

No lead was safe and no situation was implausible in a 5A Region II Division II semifinal contest that saw the two teams combine for 1,111 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Trailing 45-28 with 11:02 left in the game, quarterback Russell Shepard led the Rams to two quick touchdowns in the next six minutes.

Michael Roell booted his second field goal of the game to give Copperas Cove a 48-40 edge with 2:42 remaining.

An incomplete pass and a loss left Cy Ridge facing a third-and-16 situation. Shepard scrambled to avoid a loss, then broke free up the middle for a 76-yard touchdown run.

Shepard ran for the two-point conversion to tie the game with 1:43 showing.

The conversion topped a remarkable night for Shepard, who had a hand in 40 of the Rams’ 48 points.

Shepard ran for 311 yards and three touchdowns. The LSU signee passed for 227 yards and three scores.

The Rams even had a chance to win the game after Craig Roberson picked off a Greene pass. Roberson’s return and an ensuing penalty put Cy Ridge at the Copperas Cove 29 with 1:11 left.

On the Rams’ first play, Shepard tried a quarterback draw. He lost the ball struggling for additional yards, with Reggie Chapman coming up with possession.

Greene led the Bulldogs from their 30 to the Rams’ 40 before throwing the game-winning touchdown pass.

Copperas Cove pounced in the second half, scoring three TDs to grab a 17-point lead.

I was going to go to take my mother to this game (She follows the Dawgs here in Lampasas and really enjoys listening to Big Joe Lombardi), but she couldn't leave my dad home by himself so I went to another game instead closer by. She called me giving me updates on how great the game was and tried to get ahold of me on the final play so I could hear Big Joe. Sounds like it was an awesome game that I wish I could've seen.

Dang, sounds like there were near heart attacks in the stands for both sides. Congrats to Cove!
