Navasota has to make a stand before halftime if they want to keep the momentum. Navasota has created so many mistakes this half it is amazing they are still in the game, LaVega can not let the Rattlers hang around or they will get beat.

Is it possible to get the 1st half stats, It seems like if Navasota can make some halftime adjustments and load up the box and just stop the run they will be ok. I know LaVega likes to run the ball but if Navasota can put them in 3rd and long I have a feeling the 2nd half may be a different story.

Navasota probably feels pretty good, they played horrible and are still right in the game. If the can shut down Parr they will be ok, he already has 19 carries, that kid is going to be tired has heck. I have not seen him play but he must be the real deal.

trojan37
11-28-2008, 09:47 PM
LV runs simple offense. They have usually had a weapon in the backfield and Parr is just another product of LV. All it is for LV is sweep left, sweep right, and up the gut. But if you can't stop the run, they won't stop running.

Why do you think they run away with this?

Navasota has played horrible on offense in the first half and is still in the football game. If they eliminate the penalties and don't put the ball on the ground they will probably be pretty tough, I think they get the ball to start the half.

I will agree that LaVega will win IF they can continue to run the ball, I think Navasota will have to load up 8 men in the box and stop Parr and the running game. If Navasotaq can force LaVega in to 3rd and longs I have a feeling Navasota might pull this one out.

Navasota's best defense has been their offense this half, they kept the ball a long time. They have to keep Parr and company from breaking the big run.

LaVega controls this game if they can run the ball but the pressure is on them to score or Navasota will have all the momentum.

Navasota has to make a big stop now or LaVega will win it.

There is no doubt in my mind, with Parr being back, that LV would have ran all over Gilmer. Gilmer couldn't find an answer for the Mexia sophomore back Gentry in the 2nd half, and he is nowhere near the level of Chris Parr. I don't understand why everyone says they were scared to go DII. They beat WO-S last year, and everyone says DII is tougher. Just curious, but why does everyone think DII is tougher?

La Vega is good but they aren't the same as the '07 version

I feel WO-S, Gilmer and Carthage are ALL a bit better than the '07 versions. WO-S was leading La Vega 12-6 midway through the 4th quarter in '07 with BOTH Parr brothers playing and Gilmer played in the State Finals in '07.

The kid is a beast, and would get 12 yards per carry, then the play calling would get stupid and lose 10-15 yards!!!

Give that kid the ball 25 times tonight, and it would have been a different game!

Yes but most of it came in the first half. Lots of yards on a couple of big plays. In the second half Downey was shut down and Cuero ran away with the game.

As far as the LV/Nav game, I listened to it from close to the end of reg until it was done. Wow! I really hated to see either team lose after that fight. I wasn't really pulling for either team, though. Wylie has already beaten La Vega this season, but everyone knows that would make them all the more dangerous in a rematch. Fedora got too cute in his play calling. He should have fed Pratt and kept feeding him. LaVega team is not as good as last years. The Defense is not nearly what it was. Parr is good and and very fast . He can be stopped though but all he needs is that one time and you will not catch him. QB Wilson is their secret weapon. He is the great unknown to everyone except the locals. He was the difference in to nights game. HE was the one that converted the 4th and 5s.

Question, and no hard feelings, but I just want to know how a player goes all season without playing football, Chris Parr, comes back in football shape and its like he hasn't missed a beat? I mean, he showed no signs of being tired. Yes, he could have worked out himself. Which calls for a lot of discipline from that individual. But to be in game shape was pretty incredible!

Top 10 reason's for WLV not to go DII
10. They are in Region III
9. They are not as good as last year, without the 2 linebackers.
8. If he did get Parr back, he would be out of shape.
7. Chance to play CS for the state title (they are rivals).
6. Only stout team standing in their way in DI Reg III was Navasota.
5. LH and Celina, both of last years champs going DII.
4. Did not know if he would get Parr back or not.
3. Carthage
2. WOS
1. Gilmer (only because that is the order in which he would have to play each team).

It wasn't a popular decision, but it's hard to argue with the rationale. He is the regional champion and, I do not think, he would have got past the 2nd round in DII. If your ultimate goal is a state title, maybe he is genious...

First of all, Congratulations to the Waco LaVega Pirates. They played a helluva a game and know that they were lucky to get out of Round Rock with that win. They took advantage of every break and made the plays they had to to win.

The Rattlers were, in my opinion the best team on the field, but poor execution, poor play from the passing game, and very untimely turnovers just killed them. Three turnovers in the red zone are devastating. Yes, LaVega had a part in those, but on two of the interceptions, it was passes thrown behind open receivers. I, like others, question some of the play calling, but that has been the way the plays have been called most of the year with success. As a Saturday morning QB, I can sit behind this keyboard and think what if.

My hats are off to the Navasota players and the LaVega football team. Both teams left everything on the field and both represented their schools very well. I saw numerous LaVega players come to Navasota players after the overtime touchdown and before the customary handshakes, and offer pats on the back and great sportsmanship.

My only complaint about the game, was the number of penalties called in the game. Mnay penalties were called by refs that were out of position and it seemed that they were not coordinated very well. I saw several calls made from across the field when the ref nearest the play did not throw a flag. These probably would not have made a difference, but they were obvious against both teams. The one really questionable call was a fumble recovery by LaVega in front of their bench. The replay board clearly showed that the Navasota player was on the ground when the ball was stripped from him. But, that play did not determine the game outcome. Navasota's failure to execute when they had the ball in the red zone three times was the difference.

Good luck to the pirates.

You don't think we would have made it out of the second round in Division II? Ha ha ha.

I can't believe that after beating Navasota, some people are still saying we would get beaten early in Division 2.

Gilmer? - Mexia gave them all they could handle. We smashed Mexia 47-20. Mexia was actually an average team. I can't believe the almighty Gilmer didn't win by at least 40 against that team. Our other mutual opponent, Tyler CH was supposed to blow us out. The exact opposite happened.

WOS? - Did you not learn about counting us out last year? Tsk tsk.

LH? - Can't take anything away from them! That team is legendary, plain and simple.

Carthage? - probably would have been a great game.

Don't think for a one single second that Division II teams intimidated us. Sorry, but I am only impressed with LH in Division II at this point.

Stownhorse, the people from navasota, except for one that is a little over excited, have posted their top 25 each week and most put Navasota at 3-5 in the polls. As for your take about the game against LaVega, it was Navasota mistakes that lost the game, LaVega did not beat us down. Four turnovers, one that was clearly not a fumble on the replay, and three interceptions. Two of those interceptions were totally the fault of the Navasota offense and QB that threw the ball way behind open receivers. On the third, the receiver fell down and the LaVega defensive back made a great break on the ball and would have probably made the pick even if the receiver had not fallen.

Any honest evaluator from LaVega will tell you that that game could have very easily have been a Navasota win except for a few breaks. But, breaks are part of the game and LaVega got the breaks. No whining, but if your gonna trash the season the Rattlers had, be able to state facts and not make a very good game look like there was any domination. Both teams left everything on the field and it was as good a high school game as you would ever want to watch.

LaVega came out the winner and advances, Navasota goes home. Navasota wishes LaVega good luck in the game against Cuero. That's the way it is supposed to be.

You know what's funny....

As most folks here concur, Navasota did amazingly well to send this game to OT considering how many times the Rattlers shot themselves in the foot....

After that AMAZING TD off the lateral from Pratt to Jackson...and, considering the fact Navasota was lucky to still be in the game at that point...I was gonna "suggest" that Fedora go for 2 on the extra-point attempt! The way things were going for the Rattlers, a do-or-die 2-point conversion attempt may have been Navasota's best bet to win the game! LOL
