View Full Version : Reason Why UT's Turf Was So Messed Up...According To The Statesman

Slippery field

The Longhorns and Aggies were slipping all over the field, and one of the reasons might have been that the field was a little torn up.

The television show "Friday Night Lights" filmed the fictional Dillon Panthers' state championship game on the field on Nov. 15. The filming took place on the same day the Longhorns beat Kansas 35-7 in Lawrence, Kan.

They couldn't fix it in 2 weeks????

Based on the posts on another thread, Caldwell is orange and white and Cameron is Maroon and white. Texas is orange and white and TAMU is Maroon and white. MAYBE, Texas took a page out of the Caldwell book and watered the field. I think there was rain in the area yesterday to use for an excuse.

WHAT YA THINK !!!!!!!

I find it very interesting that UT does not allow High School playoff games at DK Royal Stadium, but they will let a 2nd rate show about Texas High School football be filmed there.

If I am wrong in this, someone please let me know. However, it seems to me that UT is "all about the money"!!!

God, I thank the for being an Aggie!

I think it was inexcusable that the field was in that poor condition. Absolute disgrace.

Would not have changed the outcome of the game, but I wonder how Dodd would have felt if one of UT's key players had blown out a knee on that mess?

I am really disapointed with this thread. I would have thought that by now, Garcia77 would have posted a picture of the field with "slippery when wet" sign on it, or something more creative as he usually does!

Someone should advise the Longhorns not to run to where the opposing team enters the field and kneel down to pray. It was a disgrace to use prayer as an excuse to envoke another team. There's plenty of room on the field for a team prayer. I can't believe a coach that would kick a player off for racist remarks would allow his team to make a mockery of the Christian faith.

UT has a very good team. The game didn't play out like I wanted, but it wasn't unexpected given our last two performances. UT was going to make all the statements they needed to make during the game. I don't mind rivals getting into scuffles before, during, or after games. That's part of what makes rivalries fun. If Texas wanted to run down there and greet the Aggies' entrance, then do it. But don't use prayer as an excuse to be down there. If it was a legit prayer that is commonly practiced by the Horns, then there was a severe lack of judgement made by Big 12 and UT officials on when to bring the teams onto the field. You can't have one team kneeling on the field in front of the other team as they're entering the field. You don't have to be a genius to know what would happen, which is why I think it was planned, and why I'm disappointed in Mack Brown.

The Texas players have prayed in that endzone for several years now as the band is marching off the field in the opposite end zone.

Really? Does it matter to you that they do that same thing every single game. Do you not think it was tacky on the part of some of the Aggies for getting in their face and talking garbage while they are praying? Give me a break. That was extremely tacky on the part of the ags.

hey,
I am an Aggie and I love to see Stephen McGee's intensity, however, I do agree that he should not have done that. I like the non-assuming, hard playing, non-trash talking players. Players like Tim Tebow and Barry Sanders.

As an Aggie, it might surpise you that my favorite college player of all time is former Texas QB and current UT RB/Assist Head Coach Major Applewhite. I will never forget the Big 12 Championship at Texas Stadium when Chris Sims started and was benched after the Longhorns were down by about 3 TDs. Major came in and nearly won that game for UT. After the game, he put the loss squarely on his shoulders. I have a lot of respect for players like that!

I agree. Knowing Texas comes and prays in the opposite endzone at the beginning and after halftime of every single home game they play, the past two times A&M came to Austin, they either came out before Texas did its run through, or came out after they did. I honestly don't remember at which point they did, but this isn't new to them or any other team that comes did.

Of course, they wanted to feel disrespected; why not use the traditional endzone prayer as a way for UT to show disrespect to the opposing team?

It kind of looks different when you take it from another angle, huh?

I believe Panther One said........................... "If it was a legit prayer that is commonly practiced by the Horns, then there was a severe lack of judgement made by Big 12 and UT officials on when to bring the teams onto the field."

I think the issue in question is not whether UT did a prayer or where they did it, but the decision on when to bring the teams out on the field. I don't know who's decision it was on when the teams come out, I'm sure ESPN had some say so as they prefer to show each team's entrance and don't want it to happen during commercial.

I found it ironic that even the commentators covering the game made a point to let all the viewers know that A&M was coming out of their tunnel at precisely the time that they were scheduled to come out and that the UT football team were the ones at fault for that little pre-game altercation. Call the Ags classless if you want, it doesn't matter and it ultimately had no real impact on the game.

You need to know of what you speak. It has been Texas' practice to do that all year. It was not something put in special for the Aggies. Nobody else has found it necessary to disrupt the practice until the Aggies came along.

Okay, you guys are right I guess...

I guess it's my fault if I break into a jewelry store and steal something... BUTTTTT if I happen to go into a jewelry store where the employee left everything unlocked while she stepped out back for a smoke, and take a lot of jewelry out of there, it's okay?

I don't care when UT was down there... I'll even agree they should have had better timing... BUT THEY WERE ON THEIR KNEES PRAYING, I think I'd be a little respectful of that fact...
