I have just a little bit of bad news for you....the 3rd quarter isn't the quarter to get it together against the Mustangs. 9 games - 0 pts. allowed in the 3rd quarter.

Just got back from the game...I think #20 for WO-S is related to Marion Barber. That kid was nearly impossible to bring down.

Looks like this one went about as expected. I have yet to get to see the Mustangs this season, but after seeing them last year hold MODOC in check for most of the game, I knew they were going to roll people this year and they have yet to disappoint. I feel confident in saying that the best defense in 3A belongs to WO-S.

WOS1
11-22-2008, 08:19 AM
I don't think there should be any question that WOS has the best defense in 3A. Caldwell averaged almost 500 yards per game and were held to 184, 74 of which came on one play.

Great game by the Hornets. You guys played with much class. I saw some great sportsmanship going on out on the field last night when it could have been very easy to do the opposite. That's a credit to your kids and coaching staff.

Mustangs played a good game... great game defensively. We still have room to improve offensively.

It was a pleasure to meet the fans from Caldwell last night. Thanks for the hospitality (and the sausage links). About 40-50 people tailgaiting in the cold at 5:30pm, and some traveled straight from San Marcos after their state tourney volleyball match. I admire the dedication to your school. Thanks especially to proudhornetsmom.

I told my buddy it wasn't worth the gas money.....ah well....seemed like it was close for a bit but when the gates opened, they opened wide.

The WO-S speed is amazing. I hate that WO-S didn't get to see how good our offense can be...the mustange defense was so fast I felt like "In-coming, In-coming" all night. If WO-S has something that is marketable to get that speed, I want stock options. Last night was proof that speed kills. OMG - WO-S #20...what college is looking at him...they all should be.

There is substance to the WO-S rankings and the Mustang fans must be proud year in and year out. Not trying to kiss up just impressed.

Our Hornets will be fine. We are a young team and will come back strong next year. Our off season program is tough and each year, the program gets stronger and stronger.

We enjoyed meeting Griff - our only official WO-S friend and I talked to Maroon87 briefly before my phone died. Maroon missed the tailgate by about 5 minutes so we'll get together another time.

The Woodforest Bank Stadium is very nice, well planned, well staffed and would be a great facility to play football each week.

Hats off to the Mustangs. Hornets, hold your head up high and begin right now to prepare for next year.

Congratulations to the Hornets on a fine season. The team is very young and very talented and will learn from this year's experiences. Sometimes, you run into a buzzsaw and can't outrun the blade. Losing to WOS this year is no disgrace. I predict that they will be playing for the state championship in a few weeks.

Hold your heads high, walk proud, and be prepared for next year--you will be back in the playoffs and should carry the district 24 banner very well. You have great fans and a great team that is still "growing up". The future is BRIGHT!!!!!!!!!

WOS defense has been very impressive and I think this is what separates them from some of the other top teams. Gilmer does a good job of outscoring teams, but their defense gives up quite a bit.

Congratulations to my friends in Caldwell. Good season with a bright future for next year. Looking forward to meeting ProudHornetMom and can't wait for next year's game in Caldwell. Say Hi to the "Voice" of Caldwell football. :)

We have something to be proud of...read that Caldwell gained 41 more yards than any other WO-S opponents this year. :D Anxious to see if WO-S can verify.

We couldn't even get a holding call last night...they were too fast for us to hold ;).

Bulls-Eye, I'll pass your message on and have kolaches watching for you next year.

Thanks to all for the support and well wishes. We're still around and will be watching some great games over the next few weeks.

Hey, I just state the facts ...;)

Sorry we weren't at the tailgate party. We got a late start yesterday and then it took much longer to get there than we had planned. We wanted to come and I had about 10 Mustangs fans in tow. It would have been fun. Oh well, next time...:)

I hated missing the M&G, but we got mixed up in traffic in Atascocita and ended up walking in just as the Caldwell QB went about 70 yards. I turned to my wife and said something I can't post on this board. I could definitely see how your offense was dangerous in a big way, and after seeing that run, I was worried that it was going to be a long night for the "Chain Gang" defense.

Fortunately for us, our defense was on their game. #20 is Quintavious Garrett, and you wouldn't think he was just 5'7 and under 190, because when he's in the zone, he'll carry two or three guys 15 yards.

As far as yardage goes, I think our 4A opponents (pre-Ike) had a bit over 200 yards, but Caldwell certainly outgained the majority of our opponents and played a very classy and clean game. It says a lot when a team with high expectations and potential is able to keep such composure when the clock is no longer on your side. The players from Caldwell were class acts.

My mom was at the game and somewhat torn, as she grew up in Caldwell. She ended up rooting for the Mustangs, but did stay to sing the Caldwell school song after the game.
