Just talked to many people that were at the game and they just kept talking about how tough the Snyder kids are never stop believing they just keep going no matter what they believe in there system and clawed back into it. Monahans made many mistakes fumbles were a problem specially when its the handoff and "Snyder took that one for 6. But Snyder was able to make things happen and capatilize. I just got back to Monahans from the game and have a few attaboys and a few spankings with the ole wet noodle to hand out.
1. As I stated earlier, Monahans has more talent, that was evident. Snyder has awesome speed and heart and that was evident.

2. Those that said they were the only ones left in Snyder? The rest must have went shopping because they were not at the game. Shame on Snyder fans for not showing more support for their boys, they played their backsides off and I thought it was a shame they had no more fans than they did.

3. Both teams had some mistakes that hurt, Monahans had a mixup in the backfield causing the fb to hit the qb in the arms and the ball hit the ground, Snyder was gone for 6, if not for this play Monahans was putting the game away. Snyder is a very dangerous, very well coached football team.

Summary:
Last year Monahans lost to an older talented football team and we were young. This year Snyder lost to an older talented football team as Snyder is the younger team. Both have nothing to be ashamed of. Although we had the ball on the 1 and could have scored at the end, we also knew that all it took was one mistake and snyder could scoop the ball and be gone to win the game. It was a close game to the end as they normally are with these two teams. Snyder brought it all game as did Monahans. It was awesome!
To all that missed this one, you missed something special.
Congratulations to Snyder for a great season and a great game for all to remember. Congratulations to my beloved mean green machine. I stood in the middle of the field with them boys celebrating and I will cherish that experience for the rest of my days. What a game. Outstanding programs both of them with outstanding coaching. Can't say it enough. Both teams exhibited great sportsmanship, no pushing/shoving, etc. Both class acts.
I may not sleep tonight.
Heck, we might as well go play the #1 ranked Bulls unless Llano throws a suprise at them tomorrow night.

I must have watched a different game then some because the Tigers were beaten soundly on both side of the ball by the Loboes and were back to arm tackling again tonight. As they did in an early game they played with no emotion even when they would get back in the game. Monahans ran the ball at will and without the big return on the kickoff and fumble return for a td the score would not have been close.

It was a good year for the Tigers as they were in every game this year and hung in to the end even when they played badly and with no emotion. No reason to hang your head when you make the playoff.

As to the crowd, it didn't appear to me that the Loboe side was exactly packed either.

Monahans was not any older than Snyder tonight. Monahans played a junior, 2 sophs, and a fish in the secondary tonight. Snyder graduates all but 2 starters on offense. The difference was no Will Clay and Monahans was just more physical than Snyder tonight in my own humble opinion.

To be honest, I was a bit dissapointed in the MHS crowd too, while it far exceeded Snyder, I expected it to be shoulder to shoulder. But they certainly made up for it with spirit and emotion. As far as the PA, we couldn't hear the PA for the crowd noise, not a great system I don't think which is suprising as nice as the facility is there. It is probably my favorite football stadium in West Texas. I looked up the stat's in the Odessa American and they pretty much confirm what you stated, you have to wonder how the score was as close as it was when the stat's were fairly lopsided. It seemed more evenly matched but I think that was just because a couple of big plays by Snyder. They are very explosive and I have a feeling we will see this matchup again in a year. I am hoping the next round is closer to San Angelo so I don't have such a drive, if anyone hears where the game is after they play tomorrow night, please post it. Regardless I hope we have a big MHS crowd next week. I also just ready that they are no younger than Monahans. I guess I thought they were due to all of the talk about the sophmore backfield. That is actually good news for MHS.

Snyder is a very talented team. The same arrogant comments about Monahans being done were stated all last week, we see dead hanging coyotes, etc and I told them they would see what Loboes looked like Friday night. They did. Some might be scared of Bridgeport but we aren't. If we lose to them, we will hold our boys high as they have played an awesome season to remember BUT we don't believe we are done. Our team knows and has known all year they can play with anyone. They have been told all year, they aren't a top 20 team, etc. but here they sit still right in the middle of the hunt for the state title. As I have said previously, we are about 8 yards from being undefeated also. As far as the more talented team, here goes.

Don't forget Monahans ended the game kneeling on the one yard line. Monahans owned the line of scrimmage from start to finish on both sides of the ball. Our O and D lines were awesome. Our QB is one of the best in the state. We are loaded with running backs. It is hard to point out one player. #'s 80,9,72,77,60,81,53,50,21,13 all were dominant on offense, it was impressive. This is a team. This is a classy bunch from the coach to the last player. One starter on offense told me late last night how bad he felt for Snyder because he felt the same way last year. No arrogance, no crap talking, no bragging. That is why I am full of it, that is why I am excited, that is why I think this team has something special and is not done yet. Now let the attacks on ole wtfootball begin, I have been called arrogant, full of myself, ignorant, etc. I am all of that, but i am also packing my bags for round 3!

On the 4th and 6 inches from your own 34 at the end of the game, if someone had shot the gap or there had been a bad pitch how smart of a call would you have thought it was??:thinking: :thinking: I know it didn't happen but it's one thing to show confidence in your offense but it also seems to tell a defense that had shut the Tigers down on all but one drive that you had no confidence it them. The same arrogant comments about Monahans being done were stated all last week, we see dead hanging coyotes, etc and I told them they would see what Loboes looked like Friday night. They did. Some might be scared of Bridgeport but we aren't. If we lose to them, we will hold our boys high as they have played an awesome season to remember BUT we don't believe we are done. Our team knows and has known all year they can play with anyone. They have been told all year, they aren't a top 20 team, etc. but here they sit still right in the middle of the hunt for the state title. As I have said previously, we are about 8 yards from being undefeated also. As far as the more talented team, here goes.

Don't forget Monahans ended the game kneeling on the one yard line. Monahans owned the line of scrimmage from start to finish on both sides of the ball. Our O and D lines were awesome. Our QB is one of the best in the state. We are loaded with running backs. It is hard to point out one player. #'s 80,9,72,77,60,81,53,50,21,13 all were dominant on offense, it was impressive. This is a team. This is a classy bunch from the coach to the last player. One starter on offense told me late last night how bad he felt for Snyder because he felt the same way last year. No arrogance, no crap talking, no bragging. That is why I am full of it, that is why I am excited, that is why I think this team has something special and is not done yet. Now let the attacks on ole wtfootball begin, I have been called arrogant, full of myself, ignorant, etc. I am all of that, but i am also packing my bags for round 3!

That was the back breaker play there. It was gutsy, but we hadn't stopped them much all night. Had we stopped them on that 4th down, the outcome of the game would have likely been different.....but like the saying goes...." if its and buts were candy and nuts...."

The only 2 problems they had last night 1) They got out played by a very impressive team on both sides of the ball and 2) I think they got out coached. The play in question......I said if we don't make it, it's still the right call. If we hadn't made it, we would have lost as Snyder would have had the ball on our end of the field. This is why we love our coach though. He evaluates heart, he evaluates emotion and who has the momentum,etc. Everyone also knows we have a powerhouse O line along with a talented backfield so make it or not, it was the right call. I can tell you this, our kids walked out on the field last night with plans to leave it all out there. Nobody has ever wanted anything as bad as Monahans wanted that win. Evidenced by the last run by our QB, he lowered his head and put a defensive player on his back, everyone played awesome. We are all very proud of them. This team has great leadership. Sophmores, Juniors and Seniors all playing together, these kids really like one another, they know they have something special going on this year which is why they are still in it. I hope they are all waking up with smiles on their faces and enjoy the day, because after the Bridgeport/Llano game tonight, time to go back to work! If they continue to count on each other as a team, they will continue to suprise people each week and win. This is a special season.

Talked to some of the Loboe football players last night at the Hacienda (sp)? and if Bridgeport wins its at Sweetwater possible on Friday and if Llano wins San Angelo probably on Saturday.

No disrespect but I think he's telling the D "if we don't make it, then it's on you to stop their O" which they had been doing all night, With less than 3 min. on the clock I'm not sure we had enough in the tank to score. Now that's IMO.

Actually Coach Owens said he wanted to win it there and not take chances had confidence in his kids knew what kind of defense Snyder was going to run and just said lets go win

first game of season Monahans wins, then loses to them in playoffs.
2006
Monahans beats them in season, but loses in playoffs.
2005
Monahans beats them in playoffs, don't remember if they won regular season or not.

I am hoping and praying we have two big upsets next week and see a Sweetwater/Monahans playing for the big game, what a treat that would be and keeping it in West Texas where "Friday Night Lights" belongs. Good luck to both teams. Neither has the perfect record but both have the heart and talent to play with anyone in the state, this has been proven.
