#3 seed Hardin-Simmons vs. #2 seed UMHB in round one. NCAA rules require teams within certain distance to play each other to cut down on travel cost. Mary Hardin Baylor won the first game between the teams by 2 points. Go Cowboys!

The NCAA Division III Football Committee announced today the field of 32 teams for the 2008 NCAA Division III Football Championship. The committee selected teams based on conference results and competition within an institution's respective evaluation region.

Twenty-three conferences received automatic-qualifying berths. Three berths were reserved for true independents and those teams that are members of conferences that do not receive automatic qualification. The remaining six berths were awarded to teams from either automatic qualifying conferences that did not win an automatic berth, or remaining true independent teams and teams in non-automatic qualifying conferences.

The first round of the championship will be played November 22 at the host institution's campus or at an alternate site approved by the football committee. The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, the national championship game, will be played December 20, at Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia. The game will be broadcast live on ESNP2 HD/E360 at 11 a.m. Eastern time.

Congrats and good luck to the Cru and Cuero's former QB Kyle Noack

should be a great game against Hardin Simmons.. both teams are 9-1 :) with Hardin Simmons only loss to UMHB by 2 earlier this season.

Cru beats Sul Ross - 42-20

Alpine, TX- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team dominated the first half and then cruised to a 42-20 victory over Sul Ross State in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon in Alpine. UMHB improves to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The Cru clinches its fourth straight outright ASC title with the win and stretches its streak of consecutive ASC victories to 29 in a row.


UMHB grabbed a 7-0 lead when Kyle Noack hit Pi'Dadro Davis with a 39-yard touchdown pass on the opening possession of the game. Noack added an eight-yard TD pass to Ervin Johnson with 5:42 left in the first quarter to make it 14-0. Sul Ross cut the lead to 14-7 when Jermaine Swearington scored on a 32-yard run four minutes later. Matt Hurst would score on a three-yard run and Davis would haul in a 33-yard TD pass from Josh Saenz as the Cru took a 28-7 halftime lead. Sul Ross would get a pair of Mike Van Wagner field goals to cut the lead to 28-13 late in the third quarter. Hurst would add a two-yard TD run and Roger Sanchez scored on a 19-yard dash to push the UMHB lead to 42-13 before the Lobos added a late 17-yard touchdown run by Dominique Carson to close out the scoring.


Bryson Tucker led the Cru offense with 128 rushing yards on 16 carries and Hurst and Josh Landrum both went over 60 yards on the ground for UMHB. Noack was 4-5 passing for 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Saenz hit 3-7 for 72 yards and a score. Davis caught three passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Swearington finished with 81 yards on 14 carries and Carson ran for 72 yards on 13 totes. Monte Morales was 7-22 passing for 95 yards. Eric Henri led the Cru defense with 10 total tackles and he added three tackles for loss. John Hamilton added nine tackles and five tackles for loss.


UMHB rolled up 305 rushing yards and 456 yards of total offense. Sul Ross State posted 134 rushing yards and 229 yards of total offense. The UMHB defense forced three turnovers in the game.


UMHB will now advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the fifth straight season and the sixth time in the last seven years. The Cru will find out its first round opponent and game site when the 32-team field for the postseason is announced tomorrow afternoon.
