If the Buckeyes play like they did against Diboll, it's gonna be a long long night for the Black Cats! I'll take the Buckeyes.

And if any of you can find out any information about Mexia, I would appreciate it. I only assume they run the ball the majority of the time because their game with Crockett was over so soon. We were still in the 3rd quarter when their game ended.

Any info will help. :D

Mexia has good speed and fair size. They have been inconsistent all year. We saw them in scrimmages and they have some really good athletes but needed to gel as a team at that point. The like to run the ball on alot of off tackle and sweeps, but can pass when needed. The defense is very quick and hits hard, but sometimes has trouble wrapping up. I seem to remember alot of yards after contact against them in the scrimmage.

I think Gilmer will be too tough on defense to allow Mexia to get in a grrove and the Gilmer offense should be able to move the ball. Gilmer should wim by at least two touchdowns.

Gilmer by ALOT. They are just plain rediculous this year.

I went to the game last night, but I won't be going to the Mexia game, even though it's a lot closer to home.

This is very likely going to be a total demolition of a team which won't even know what hit them.

Last night I was thinking it was too bad the coaches couldn't agree to run the clock continuously in the second half. I guess that's not possible in the playoffs.

That was the most thorough defeat of a team in a playoff game that I have ever seen.

I noticed an enormous amount of Carthage fans at the game last night. I also noticed that many of them left at the half. I think the ones that stayed are telling the ones that left that Gilmer may not be the pushover that most of Carthage thinks we are.
Gilmer dominated every facet of the game except T.O.P.:D. This was probably the second most complete game of the season for the Buckeyes. Gilmer vs Daingerfield was the best Gilmer effort I've seen in 3 years.

I don't want to predict this one yet. The "bones" haven't told me anything yet.:D

It was what I expected from Gilmer last night, never have seeing them play before. I still didn't think Diboll would be shut out, but with 6 turnovers what can you do. 6 turnovers led to 6 TDs.

I still believe Carthage whooped Diboll worse than Gilmer. They are so dominant on Offense, believe you me. They are huge on the o-line. Gilmer has the edge on defense though.

Not predicting a Gilmer-Carthage matchup but if it did happen Gilmer would have a very tough time with those Bulldawgs. IMO

I believe you are right. But after their victory over Tatum, Bulldog fans on the radio were predicting a Carthage/ LH final.
Carthage could very well defeat Gilmer, but I kinda like our chances to be honest. We have a huge speed advantage over Carthage, and I believe an edge in coaching.
I'm fairly certain that the good folks in Mexia, WOS, Coldspring, and Caldwell are probably tired of hearing about Gilmer vs Carthage. Let's just play Mexia this week, and if we beat them, we will go from there.;)

I remember hearing the Tatum announcers saying Gilmer has more speed. Not sure about a huge advantage, maybe on defense.. I did talk to some Diboll football players this morning and asked them who they thought was a tougher team and they all said Carthage. But like you said, one week at a time. Good luck against Mexia. I remember in 2000, Diboll was 10-0 and ranked in the top 5 that year. They end up losing 45-0 in first round. That one still hurts. They always have some athletes.

...and Carthage needs to be worrying about Cleveland! They are for real.

Carthage looked to me like a team that can lose focus. I said it to alot of people after Thursday; Yes they were very impressive, but IMO if you get up on Carthage early, they will fold. The way they carry themselves reminds me alot of 03 Daingerfield. That might be something for Cleveland to keep in mind.

Eat Mexia up all night with the screen. Gilmer rolls in this one.

I would have never thought Gilmer would have rolled over Diboll like they did last night. That was probably the all around best game they have played in several years, even better than the Daingerfield game earlier this year.

If Gilmer can continue to play like they did last night, they shouldn't have much trouble with Mexia. I'll take Gilmer in a 2 or 3 TD win.

I think the road that takes you out of Region 3 runs through West Orange-Stark, not Gilmer or Carthage. WO-S is probably the best team in 3A this year and will take a near perfect game by your offense, defense and special teams to have a chance at defeating them. At this point, I say if anyone has a chance to beat them, it would likely be Gilmer, because of their defense.

I really hope we get to see Gilmer vs. WO-S and Gilmer vs. Carthage.

Couldn't have said it any better. I'm sorry I've gotten so wrapped up in the Gilmer vs Carthage thing. I guess it's because of the little bit of (understandably) cockiness I'm hearing out of Carthage.
WOS has an elite defense. We gave up more points in district than they have given up this year. They are a fundamentally sound and incredibly impressive team. If we are fortunate enough to beat Mexia and face WOS, I will savor every moment of what appears to be an epic match-up of two 3A titans!

Gilmer is not good and Mexia should keep it close. The only reason Gilmer has a winning record is they play weak east Texas teams. If they were in a weaker region they could go far in the playoffs, but Region 3 is the best REGION OF ALL TIMES. Also, Buckeye80 is a pansy. ;)

They seem to be very balanced. Just based on those numbers, Buckeye football will beat them. Let's just hope we play "Buckeye football" next week!

From the looks of the stats, the key to the game for Gilmer defensively will be containing their running back, #9 Doug Gentry, and their QB, #10 Trae Davis. Out of their 4727 total yards (passing and rushing), those 2 have combined for 3918 of them, or roughly 82%.

I will go out on a limb and say that I doubt Mexia has seen anything like the defensive speed that will be coming at them Friday.
Offensively, I think we will do what we do. Score early, score often, take their desire away!
