Sinton and Pearsall both had the same amount of players returning on offense and defense and almost both with the same records last year, Sinton 1-9 and Pearsall 2-8 so both teams have a had a great turnaround year.

Sinton offense will keep carrying this team and the defense will be the key to how far they go.

Sinton 42 Pearsall 21

I agree. The offense has been consistent all season. The defense has had their moments, but have given up a lot too. The last three games, they managed to get key stops in the 2nd half that helped preserve the victories. Last night, the Sinton defense rose to the occasion and dominated the rest of the game.

Sinton made one defensive adjustment at the half that I noticed (may have been more than one). Carson did not play QB in the second half, they had him at safety on defense.

It is possible that the defensive unit is just now starting to gel.

Pearsall has pretty good size on the lines and beat Devine and Hondo with big plays and second half ball control, smash mouth football. That being said, Go Pirates! This isn't sour grapes, there just isn't anything about Pearsall I like.

After a 1-9 record last year, Sinton is catching most teams they face by surprize with how good this offense actually is. Sinton can run and throw out of this spread formation very effectively. The two QB system keeps fresh legs in the game, and both are very capable. Along with the two QB's, Sinton changes out the skill players regularily. The defense is starting to show up also. Our defense tended to give up a lot of yards in the middle of the field, but got very tough in the red zone. Lately, they are giving up only big plays and not too many of those.

Pearsall is a tough team and the Pirates will have to play well to beat them. I remember they beat Freer in the playoffs in the 1960s. And we have to remember that their softball team beat us in the playoffs a few years ago. And remember that Country Music Singing star George Strait was raised in Pearsall. That increases the risk.

At this level every team is good, or they wouldn't be in the playoffs. Sinton will have to play hard every game......

Those Pearsall stats aren't very accurate. Valle's been on a roll lately as the team has passed early to set the tempo and then run late to finish the game.

Pearsall has a stable of about four or five backs who will run the ball. They've been extremely balanced with the run and pass and their defense has become really strong this season.

They've allowed 22 points over the last 15 quarters and 13 of those came in a 54-21 win over Crystal City when Pearsall had already clinched the playoffs and were playing for nothing in the season finale.

Pearsall's totalled over 400, 500 and 600 yards of offense and averaged 46 points a game over the last four weeks.

Pearsall's biggest win was over then unbeaten and #6 state-ranked Devine 29-24 to open district.

Head Coach Ted Maple seems to have this team peaking at just the right time.

Those 22 points over the last 15 quarters were against the bottom dwellers in your district. I'm just saying.

Not that it matters, I'm just curious, but what poll was Devine ranked #6??

I think we are pretty evenly matched. Both of our offenses seem to be having success moving the ball & scoring. It will come down to our defense and once again I believe our defense will have one more stop than Pearsall. :D

There is absolutely ZERO parking at the Floresville stadium.

Sinton is the home team. If Pearsall travels well & I don't see why not considering the distance, their fans will have to get there early for a seat on the visiting side. La Vernia had some fans on the home side which sucks. I got to see my cousins from LV, but it had to suck as a Goliad fan to have almost an entire section cheering when the opposing team scored or had a big play.

What a difference a year makes! Last year the Mavericks were 2-8 and the Pirates were 1-9. This year they are playing in week 12!!!

Pearsall returned 10/7
Sinton returned 10/6

Pearsall is averaging 33.11 points a game & giving up 21.7

Sinton is averaging 34.11 points a game & giving up 19.66

Should be a close game coming down to the team with the least amount of mistakes.

Thoughts? Predictions?

I did too but when the Reg IV Editor said that the Sinton/Pearsall game was selected GOTW because of the "comeback kids" situation, I had to agree. I wasn't aware of Pearsall's 2007 record. Two teams meeting up in the 2nd round of the playoffs with the great records they have in 2008 compared to what kind of records they had last year - is quite exciting. Go Pirates

IMO, I think dist. will be out of the playoffs this week. Dont think La Feria can pull a upset of Bandera unless they do have a good defense. from i read earlier Bandera doesnt have good size but good speed so that has me thinking La feria might give them a good game. Speed and Size no chance but just one of the two then maybe a chance for La Feria :)

No way La Feria hangs with Bandera. Check the Bandera/Pearsall score on the district page.

When you say size...we have some really good strength. This is just a smaller team than we usually have. However, the size difference is made up for and more by our increase in speed and no drop off in strength. All of our smaller lineman are just as strong as our bigger ones used to be. And we have some stocky really good athletes playing corner and linebacker. If by size you mean strength, we are just as good if not better than before, especially in the skill positions.

Pearsall used to be a regular playoff team but the new millenium has not been good to them, only two trips since 2000.

As for being a winning playoff team, not since the 50s and 70s has Pearsall regularly won in the playoffs.

I remember drinking cold beer at a place called Nephews in down town San Marcos and dancing to his songs as he sang them not 5 feet away. This was many years ago before he became famous.

Strait was born in Poteet, Texas and grew up in Pearsall, Texas. His father, John Byron Strait, was a junior high school mathematics teacher. The Straits would often leave Pearsall on the weekends and in the summers to work at the family's 2,000 acre (8 km˛) cattle ranch outside of Big Wells, Texas. Strait's parents divorced when he was in third grade, after his mother left, taking her daughter with her. Strait and his brother remained behind with their father. Strait began playing with a rock band in Pearsall High School but his preference turned to country music. He counts country singers Merle Haggard, George Jones, Bob Wills and Hank Williams as his primary country music influences. After graduating from high school, Strait enrolled at Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State University) but dropped out and eloped with his high school sweetheart, Norma.

I need a couple more days to decide who I'll pick for this game. I thought Floresville added more seating a few years back on the visitor side. I know in the late 80's when sinton and Floresville were in the same district we stopped at a bar there to have few beers before the game and when we left this guy says "Good Luck Finding A Seat!!". Found what he was talkin about when we got there. I guess it's still the same huh.

Went to the City Counsel meeting tonight and it was stated that they added seating and the Home side seats 3500 and the vistors side it 1700 or so. We are home team, so I guess we should have enough seats. Unless they fill up with Pearsall fans.

Supposed to be a city wide pep rally at the old gym. I thought it was condemmed?????

I did a google map search and it looks like there is NO parking what so ever........

Looks like it is a TURF field too.

By 'old gym' they mean the older one at the HS. ;)

Floresville completely redid their stadium this past year - this is the first season it's been used. The field is really very nice, as are the facilities like the concession stand, restrooms, etc. I was impressed. However, the visitor's side says it seats 1500 to 1700, but it seemed smaller to me last time I was there. Of course, about a quarter of the stands were taken up by the band. There are a couple of parking lots behind the field that you enter off of State Hwy 97 instead of US 181, but they aren't very big so you need to get there early! Especially if you're the visitors, your side will fill up FAST so you will have to either stand or go to the home side, but with this game that will be filling up pretty fast, too.

Good luck Pirates and Mavericks! :)

Parking at Floresville :

"Parents should be directed to turn at Hwy 97 East, (the 3rd light in Floresville), go to the Floresville High School gym and turn in the parking lot, then follow signs to the football parking lot. Parents will not be allowed to park in the Tiger’s Den parking lot with the Sinton busses."

Also note, if you go out at halftime, you will have to pay to get back in.

From Sinton: Driving into Floresville on Highway 181 North, go through 2 stop lights. At the 3rd stop light, take a right on Hwy 97 East, (The FISD Administrative Offices are on this corner) drive .3 miles and turn right into our gym parking lot. Once in our gym parking lot, drive straight for .1 mile and take a left at the fence. There will be a sign there which says “Stadium Parking”. Go into the gravel parking lot and park.

More "directions"

Haven't been to Floresville since 1987 when the Pirates played the Tigers, I remember that game it was a great game Sinton almost beat them it was a close game, If im correct Sinton scored but a penality was put against the Pirates so the point was not good Sinton could've won by a field goal the final score was 12-6. Great memories me and my friends would spend all week making confetti at school come game time we would sit at the top row and spill it all over the place getting it on people's hair:D each time they would score or run through the big sign we would throw it.

Does anyone have any recollection of the last time Pearsall and Sinton played in the playoffs? I think it was 1996 and Sinton won a 15-14 decision in bi-district.

1950 Pearsall defeated Sinton 14-0
1996 Sinton defeated Pearsall 15-14

but I don't know the details, sorry

ya. I remember they liked to scrimage each other in the late 90's. Back when floresville was a wing T and ran for 400 yards a game.

I "sound" like a broken record ( :D ) but I don't think Pearsall can stop our offense and I know our defense will have at least ONE more stop in 'em than Pearsall does!!

FYI: The team buses will be departing Sinton at approximately 1:15 pm. All main street businesses are encouraged to  :cheerl: as they roll out of town!!
