lyfords stadium is very small they are a small community i believe the capacity is 3500 if im not mistaken older wooden bleachers old school stuff grass is nice tho (at times)

The touchdown that was taken away was a weird deal. Pirates stopped Lyford and forced them to punt. Pirates got the ball at their own 14. Drove the length of the field and on fourth and goal from the 1, Harrison kept up the middle. Two of the referees (including the line judge) signalled touchdown and they put the score up. Then the next thing we know, the score comes off and Lyford has first and 10 headed the other way. Zebra conference I guess. No matter, it sorta pissed Sinton off and they made Lyford pay for it.

Lyford's two scores were on long plays, one was set up by a long pass and the other was a td pass. The Pirates stopped Lyford twice in our red zone in the first half and took over on downs and scored on both possessions.. The second half was ALL Sinton. The defense stepped it up in the second half, forced and recovered a fumble and picked off two passes. First half stats were pretty even, second half not even close.

Great job Pirates! on to the next victim, errr, I mean opponent.:D

I had to get off line to take my son to the ER and didn't get to see how things went in the second half. Funny thing was that the waiting room at the hospital was full of injured Tuloso-Midway and La Feria band members/color guard/pep squad members. Not one football player was there.

Another strange incident happened at this game. In the fourth quarter as Sinton began pulling away, there were about a dozen Ramondville kids in our bleachers that stood up and unrolled two long signs (showing to the Lyford side) that said "Kiss your playoffs goodbye!". I heard the local constabulary took the signs away from them.

LYFORD - Defense is always crucial come playoff time.

Unfortunately, the Lyford Bulldogs couldn't build on last week's gutty defensive effort, as the Sinton Pirates racked up 401 rushing yards (plus 78 passing), leading them to a 48-14 Class 3A bi-district win at Bulldogs Stadium Friday night. The Pirates play Pearsall next week in the area round.

"I'm proud of these guys," said Bulldogs coach Jaime Infante. "They overcame a lot of stuff this year. These guys never lost faith in themselves. I've got to take my hat off not only to the opposition, but to our kids too. I think they had a great year and showed a lot of character."

The Bulldogs kept it close in the first half, even though the Pirates scored on their first two drives. The half ended with Sinton up 14-7.

But the Pirates opened strong in the third quarter, scoring from 1 yard out after Perez tacked on runs of 25 and 37 yards. They never even attempted a pass in the quarter and still racked up 140 yards.

The Bulldogs scored right back, on a 53-yard pass from Johnny Esparza to Andrew Delgado. But when Ryan Cantu returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a Pirates touchdown, the Bulldogs were stuck valiantly playing catch-up the rest of the way and were unable to recover.

"The return gave them the momentum right back," said Infante. "That's the game of football.

"We just played a good football team. They did a great job of ball control. My hat's off to them. They were better offensively than I thought they would be. I think they did a great job of controlling the clock, scoring when they had to and putting us in a catch-up type mode," he added.

Pirates coach Tom Allen admitted that Lyford "scared the living crud out of us. They do a great job on offense, and defensively they move people around so much. One thing we get real scared of is just when people start going everywhere."

He added that "they are very well coached. Their kids run the best routes of anybody we played all year long. They do a phenomenal job at what they do. We got some breaks, and got kind of rolling, and it just kind of ended that way."

The radio announcers said that three of Mercedes players got suspended for the game but didn't know why. One of them was their top running back who had over 1,000 yards for the season. I don't know if he would have made a difference but those suspensions may have been costly.
