PHARR, Texas—Edcouch-Elsa High School was granted an injunction Monday that prevented a meeting to address alleged violations of player eligibility and practice rules that could knock the undefeated team out of the Texas football playoffs.
Edcouch-Elsa (10-0), ranked 10th in Class 4A in the final Associated Press poll, will appear before the State Executive Committee in Austin on Thursday, said University Interscholastic League spokeswoman Kim Rogers.

The District 32-4A Executive Committee, which had jurisdiction, met Saturday and was scheduled to reconvene Monday before a judge granted an injunction that canceled the meeting, said Rosemarie Maciel, the district executive committee chairwoman.

The agenda for Saturday's meeting called for hearings on an alleged violation involving the UIL residence rule, off-season practice regulations and paperwork involving previous participation.

Maciel said she had no details on the injunction. Edcouch-Elsa Superintendent Mike Sandroussi didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

The possible ouster of Edcouch-Elsa would change all four playoff matchups involving District 32-4A in South Texas one day before they are scheduled to be played Friday.

One thing the Patriots or the rest of District 32-4A won't have to worry about is a possible reshuffling of the district's playoff matchups. Breithaupt said the precedent for the committee would be to simply slide Mission Veterans into E-E's spot in the bracket, regardless of enrollment or record.

It may not affect all teams but it affects the team EE is supposed to play as they no longer know who to prepare for and it affects the #5 team as I understand they cannot even practice. They could well end up being thrown into a playoff game on Friday or Saturday without being told until Thursday.

Since when does a court have the power of pre-emption? No action has been taken yet by the district comittee. Sheesh, as if the UIL didn't have enough problems already. Voters in that area need to take notice.

For real! Wasn't it supposed to be a follow-up meeting for documentation to be presented? Maybe the school is trying to get it over with by going to the UIL now.

I'm surprized the UIL isn't banging on the Attorney General's door or screaming at some congressmen. The UIL has the blessing of the State as far as Amateur Athletics in this state is concerned. The District Committee is their local appointee.

I know some people in Denison who would be very ticked off that a team keeping them out of the Top 10 all year would be barred from the playoffs. :)

Tuloso Midway is getting the short end of the stick here. They know they will face one team or the other, but not which. That means they have to prepare for BOTH.
