At this late date in the season, these numbers tend to mean something (IMO). Interesting how Region 3 has so many in the top 20 or so. Also interesting how Liberty Hill is so low as compared to their expected results.

WOS-87, what did it look like this time last year, and the year before? At least the top 20 or so...would be a nice glance backwards to see if there is any validity to these numbers. I think there definitely is.

Last year's Week 10....

thread (http://bbs.3adownlow.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=73536)

All we can do (beat the teams we line up against), we've done. With totally different teams being played, I don't know if they're comparable or not.

Is it time to re-open the toughest district in 3A thread? ;)

Amen LHPM - that's all the coaches and teams can do, prepare for and play the teams they are aligned up with to play (unless of course a coach/team throws a game in order to play someone else, but I just can't imagine a reputable coach doing something like that)

Good Luck, safe travels and injury-free games are my wish for the upcoming games - this is what we've been waiting for since Dec 23rd 2007 :) :)

Don't heckle me for this but wasn't Fabens decent last year?

If you look at Liberty Hill, our two lowest power ratings were against Ingram and Canyon Lake. That's one major flaw with a system like this. It's almost impossible to maintain in those weeks without putting up some eyebrow raising scores. It was during those two weeks when we began falling in the other computer rankings, as well. You're essentially punished either through strength of schedule or by not winning 90-0.

Things like this usually begin to sort themselves out in the playoffs, though. I'd still take the Panthers over anyone ranked above us.

The Highest Ranked Teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs are:

#33 - Liberty-Eylau
#37 - Brownwood
#40 - Gladewater
#41 - Cameron Yoe
#48 - La Grange
#53 - Atlanta
#54 - Athens
#55 - Wimberley

WOS87, you have probably been asked this many times before, and if so, please answer one more time.....Is there any point difference factor correlation between taking the difference between any 2 of your power ratings and translating that to points +/-? Thanks.

That's the cool thing about my ratings. The ratings are calculated solely on points scored and point differentials so yes, you can directly get a line on a game between any two teams just by looking at the difference between their two ratings.

I've thus got Bridgeport (44.8 rating) as a 17 point favorite (44-27=17) over Liberty Hill (27.6 rating) if they happen to meet up in the Quarterfinals.

#1 Gilmer would be 126 point favorites over #177 Tornillo

Thanks, WOS87, and please help me hold my PC down on the table when the LH folks read your example. :D----but I sure like it!

As far as the predictive accuracy for the past week (comparing the Week 10 results to the Week 9 ratings):

Region I: 19-2
Region II: 16-5
Region III: 18-3
Region IV: 20-3

Total: 73-13 (84.9% correct)

I'd say that was pretty good!

It's not a big deal. We won state without being highly ranked and we won state being highly ranked. Rankings are fun, but they don't win you games. Aside from the Wimberley game, we haven't really performed up to our potential of late, so it would be hard to put us near the top. I do think we're a solid top 10, but look at the hit our power rating took for not beating Canyon Lake and Ingram 90-0.

If we turn it on in the playoffs, everything will sort itself out. I hope we get to test out WOS87's example!

What we all need to learn from this little discussion is that the games must be played, and we play them for a reason. Anything can happen in high school football, especially in Texas.

What WOS offers you with this very smart system is a way to rank teams in the only unbias way possible. It happens to accurately predict winners more than the majority of the time. That is not to say that it is error free in all situations, OR that there will not be upsets along the way.

There are things that not even this system can take into consideration, injuries, benched players, etc. However, it is the most respectable system with mathematical and statitistical backing w/o bias views out there.

THANK YOU WOS87.

The only fault with the system is that you can't predict from numbers alone the heart and sould of a team. Some examples from last years wek 10 ratings:

#1 WOS (49.73) lost in the playoffs to #5 LaVega (42.53) by a score of 20-12

#5 LaVega lost to #16 China Spring (29.05) by a score of 31-28

#16 China Spring beat #14 Cuero (30.21) 37-14

And everyone knows that "lowly" rated Liberty Hill just scraped by everybody and won the Championship.

Based on numbers, this system is pretty accurate and dependable for the regular season, but in the playoffs, all bets are off. The emotion and momentum is unable to be factored in and a good team with momentum is very hard to beat by anybody. That said, WOS has the best system available, non-biased, and definitely non-homer or region related. Like everything else he posts, WOS is a true fan and talks from assessing facts and not from a biased heart.

THANKS WOS FOR ALL YOU DO> You make this board the most informed posters on the web-if the posters read before they talk.

Wow, Region II looks weak. Looks like Celina-Pleasant Grove and Argyle-New Boston in the semis... and a Celina-Argyle rematch in the finals.

Can Bridgeport beat Liberty Hill in Region I?

Well, I think your power ratings held up for at least two games this week.

You had Celina +31 over Van Alstyne (ended up +41)

You had Liberty Hill +23 over West (ended up +27)

I wonder how things worked out over all?

How did you have LaFeria as Favored to win, if they are lower than Robstown?

Week 11 predictions were made using Week 10 Ratings

Week 10 Ratings

La Feria was #113 with a -5 rating
Robstown was #119 with a -7 rating

Thus La Feria was a 2 point favorite

The Week 11 ratings are compiled using the results from Week 0 thru Week 11. Robstown's previous opponents must have fared better than La Feria's in Week 11 for them to move ahead despite losing. Remember, the ratings are compiled using every game played in the 2008 season dating back to August (and each game played affects the rating of all 177 teams to various extents) so just because one team wins a game, it doesn't automatically mean they will move up.

I understand, but I'm confused at the same time.

I just don't see how LaFeria could win, and move down. Lol.

I guess it's all on the opponents though, like you said.

I know it seems paradoxical but the main reason for the switch in positions is:

La Feria played Lyford in Week 4 (Lyford lost by much more than expected to Sinton this week which indirectly lowers La Feria's rating as well as the rating of every other opponent Lyford has faced this season)

Robstown played Sinton in Week 7 (Sinton beat Lyford by much more than expected this week which indirectly increases Robstown's rating as well as the rating of every other opponent Sinton has faced this season)

Sinton's much larger than expected win over Lyford caused a larger shift in the ratings than La Feria's 3 point win over Robstown and moved Robstown ahead of La Feria. That's about as simple as I can make it.

Sorry

No, because all the teams that you beat will no longer add to your rankings, and will take away since they can't add any more wins. :vrycnfsd: :vrycnfsd:

Hey!

LH moved up from 17 to 13 if I'm not mistaken. Is the sarcasm really necessary?

(I still love you by the way)

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic. And I hadn't looked to see "where" we were yet. The whole thing confuses me, even though I understand. :D :vrycnfsd:
