The Gobbler Radio stat guy (Ray Reese) is giving stats and he's giving the stats WOS87 posted on the Downlow 1) most points scored in a game 2) least points scored against - Way to go Ray for giving some Downlow provided stats ;) Just goes to show that the 3ADownlow is a premiere site for information

Other Cuero/Edna stats as of halftime:

1st downs
Cuero 19
Edna 8

Rushing
Cuero 17 for 232 yards
Edna 15 for 38 yards
***(I must have misunderstood the 1st Quarter stats or something cause I thought they said we had 286 in the 1st quarter - I apologize for that - not sure what I did/heard wrong)

Passing
Cuero 8 of 12 for 134 yards
Edna 7 of 20 for 88 yards

Punts
Cuero 0
Edna 38.7 yard average

Total Yards Offense
Cuero 366
Edna 126 (79 on the last drive when they scored)

Penalties
Cuero 2 for 15 yards
Edna 2 for 20 yards

Ray also said Cuero got the ball back with 28 or so secs right before the half and came "just that close" to scoring - but went 50+ yards in 28 sec.....

No turnovers...... congrats to both teams for that!

recently returned RB Cole Pargmann runs it in the endzone for a TD.. Glad you're back Cole. He's been out with leg injury since Beeville game (1st game)
41-0 PAT was a little to the left....... guess we jinxed Jake on his PATs

Tanner Hoffman to kickoff........

Edna goes for it on 4th down..... and "makes it" so they get the 1st down......

1st and 10 - Edna QB goes back to pass - pass well out of the WR's reach but a young DB from Cuero gave him a bump and so it's a 15 yard penalty against Cuero and another 1st down for Edna..... that's OK - that's how they learn ;)

Edna down to the Cuero 40 on a draw play....... Edna driving hard on this series

1st down - Edna caught behind the line of scrimmage

2nd and 14........ Troy Ruiz and Kolton SMith bring down the RB after he gets about 2 yards

3rd and 12......... QB goes back to pass - not caught by the WR.... Joe said Robert got his hands on it but didn't quite bring it in for the INT......

4th down...... incomplete pass........

Cuero takes over 1st and 10 on their own 43 yard line......

3rd down - Troy Ruiz takes it for another 1st down

1st down...... Tyler to Robert Armstrong to the Edna 30 yard line

44INAROW
11-07-2008, 10:47 PM
Cuero going for it on 4th down...... Arndt sacked......

Edna takes over on their own 35 yard line.....

I am going to step away for a while.. will post updates closer to the end of the game.

Trent was 17 for 308 with 3 TDs against Edna. Is now 84 for 1209 with 17 TDs on the season in 9 games. 14.4 yd avg per carry while averaging a touchdown every 5 carries. Through the first 4 games he only had 22 carries for 170 yds and 2 TDs. In district play, he is 62 for 1049 with 15 TDs while averaging 16.9 per carry and a TD every 4.1 carries.

The freshman RB from Cuero is a cut above, no doubt about it. I knew he would be fast, but what impressed me most was how he ran through arm tackles without slowing down at all. He's a strong kid, who even when gang tackled is still going forward.

I was happy to see Edna show up. I know that probably sounds funny when you get beat 54-14, but the Cuero starters were in until the 4th quarter (at least some of them were) and we did from time to time put some pressure on their defense.

If I had to judge the Gobblers chances to go all the way I'd say:

Offensively...They have an outstanding running game. Their line blew our defense line back 5 yards on just about every play. And the linemen get to the LBs as well. Combine that run blocking with the talent they have in the backfield and they may run themselves to the title game. And...they better because I was surprised by how much pressure we were able to get on the QB when he dropped to pass. 2 sacks, a forced fumble and numerous hurries. Plus 2 passes went right thru the DBs hands and one was batted into the air by the MLB who had dropped into coverage. The passing game is OK, (they run a mean WR screen) but I think it needs to be better for the Gobblers to win the title. How can a line that blocks for the run so well, not pass protect better?

Defensively...The gobbles pursue and tackle very well. They put a lot of hats on the ball. But, if they are going to play man coverage, they need to put more heat on the QB. We had numerous plays where our QB had a lot of time to let a WR break free. We connected on a couple and dropped a few more. We haven't had that kind of time for most of the year. Our offense has struggled all year, and last night was about as good as we have looked. We gained almost 300 yards, and those were not all 4th quarter yards. IMO, the gobblers need to step up on the defensive side of the ball if they expect to take home the trophy.

Now having said all that make no mistake at all, we were completely dominated. Had they wanted to simply hand the ball off on every play I don't know that we would have ever had a stop.

I think Cuero is an outstanding team, well drilled, well coached and they play an aggressive, but clean game. I like their team a lot. We will be rooting for them and I'm sure we'll travel to a few of their playoff games.
Best of luck to the Gobblers.

headhunter

I like your post Cowboy_Up. You said it perfectly. The Gobblers will only go as far as their defense takes them. No offense to your Cowboys but Cuero will face teams in the playoffs that will be very aggressive and will bring a hit you in the mouth attitude. Yall did play a tough game. I still do not understand our defensive game-plan. We do not blitz and when our front 4 read pass they are not able to penetrate into the backfield and put pressure on the QB. It's like we don't want to get in the backfield. While we are very quick and fast we do lack a little intensity. We need to find that headhunter mentality and get out their and lay some huge hits and force some big turnovers.

As for a the offense, we are solid but those WR screens will not work the entire way through the playoffs, they have been stopped before and the deeper you get the better disciplined teams will be. We will have to open it up and throw across the middle, also get the TE involved and throw to backs out of the backfield. Oh and throw to all your receivers. Making Tyler roll out will also help him create passing lanes and bye him some time. You can bet teams will try to blitz in the playoffs and create havoc in the backfield against Cuero. Cuero is a very solid team and they a great deal of talent. Coach Reeves will have to get those boys to play at a higher level each week from here on out. Reeves has to be one of the smartest coaches when it come to scouting teams and exposing their weaknesses. It will come down to the Gobblers not being so predictable and being able to execute and carry out a strike quick and hit hard game-plan. Lets go Gobblers get ready to make a run and make a statement every week that you are the best team on the field leave NO DOUBT.

After seeing Sealy get beat I have to say Cuero is the favorite to win this region. NOTE: They are the FAVORITE, we all know they still have to pla the game.
