Whiteside is the key to how far we go. If he can get going then we have a chance. This offense has needed an identity and so far this year it doesn’t have one.

Obviously it is a team game but in the absence of a go to guy we have had a real hard time winning games. Whiteside is the guy on this team that has the ability to be that person and I hope he has it in him. That doesn’t mean that the others aren’t important but they will thrive if he does. I, for one, think he has it in him

The Lions had me worried early in the year. They did come through and I think that was a tough feat to beat both Decatur and Iowa Park to clinch it. Down the stretch the Lions came together and did what they had to do to get into the show. For this team, I think that was quite an acomplishment.

They have a bye to work everything out and if I were the coach I would just start preparing for Liberty Hill -- no guess work there. No pipe dreams either, the Lions will get the best the state has to offer first rattle out of the box and it will take nothing short of a perfect game, some turnovers and a miracle to get another win.

That being said, the Lions did play close with Wylie and that should give the Lions players some hope.

I was really surprised that the Hawks played as well as they did.

Some of the feedback I'm hearing is that, upon further review, the Hawks had a much better year that the record would indicate.

They started off the year trying to run the spread and they just didn't have the personel. By the time district rolled around, they went back to the old Ellis running game and started having success. The Hawks were ahead of Burk and Vernon late in those games, beat Hirschi and everyone got rolled by B-port.

I think Ellis may have tried to out think himself early in the year and cost the team a couple of pre-district wins.

Also, they start more sophs than srs so the next couple of years could bode well for them.
