Gray Raley connected with Christian Gerbich for a 25-yard touchdown pass, and Carlos Paniagua added the extra point to give Columbia a 24-23 victory over Wharton Friday night here at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers, now 3-1 in district play, travel to Sweeny next Friday to play for the District 26-3A title.

The Bulldogs beat Royal 21-14 to improve to 4-0 in district play and Royal fell to 2-2.

Needville improved to 2-2 in district play with a 48-7 victory over Stafford which dropped to 0-4.

Needville will host Royal next Friday for the third playoff spot.

The Tigers took the lead with 5:18 left in the game on a 55-yard run by Raymond Felder after Elijah Richardson picked up two yards on a fourth down and 1 play.

Justin Sherrill added the extra point to make the score 21-17.

On the Roughnecks' next possession, Raley connected with Taylor Lane for 15 yards on fourth and 5 to the Tiger 30, and two plays later the Necks scored the winning touchdown.

The Tigers moved to the 35 on the next drive, but the Roughnecks intercepted a pass and took over at midfield with 1:00 left in the game.

On fourth and 25 Robert Thomas took a safety to make the score 24-23 with only two ticks left on the clock.

The Tigers returned the kickoff to midfield as the clock ran out to end the game.

The Tigers drove to the Roughneck 20 on the first drive of the game, but the Roughnecks recovered a fumble and took over at their 20 with 10:50 left in the first quarter.

After both teams were forced to punt, the Necks took over at the Tiger 47 with 7:06 left in the quarter and had to settle for a 42-yard field goal by Paniagua to make the score 3-0 with 4:58 left in the quarter.

On the Tigers' next possession, on third and 9 from the Roughneck 42, Elijah Richardson connected with Jesmon Grant for 31 yards to the 11. Three plays later, DeShavian Williams ran the ball in from 4 yards out to make the score 7-3 with 1:31 left in the quarter.

Lol. Yep... his 2nd receiving TD catch of the season and also had a blocked punt Return TD.

In addition to that, he caught a 16 yd pass on 4th and 15, and he also plays almost every snap on defense. Good ball player.

Congrats to him.
