Here's the past 40 seasons which includes their lone State Championship game appearance against Brownwood in 1969. This documents more than 50% of the entire history of their football program which dates back to at least 1922.

Ah, someone pointed out to me that I am wrong. the 1994 Sweeny game was worse

71-12 (59 points)

62-7 (55) points.

Thanks for the correction.:)

Wow.... in 1964...... WC went 5-4-1.

What's amzing about that is, they shut their opponents out 5 times and only gave up 46 points the entire season, but lost 4 games and did not amke the playoffs. Just amazing.

I noticed in 2006....in pre-district Bellville crushed the Necks...only to have the Necks knock them out of the playoffs later in the season. Just goes to show you never can tell.

As the season went on, our QB played MUCH better...... and we got Flannel back.

The final score in that playoff game should have been 26-6..... but our QB threw the ball up in the air as time expired and a Bellville player picked it up and ran it in for a TD..... VERY cheap score to make the scoreboard more respectable. I almost laughed that they even picked it up.....

In the end Wharton's QB at the time Ansley took the Tigers on his back and carried them to victory over the Necks in a VERY VERY good game. We knew after that night...moving to the area, we'd get to see some competitive HS ball for years to come :)

ps.......I believe the Necks were without Flannel in this game or he had JUST came back? Something....don't remember exactly...but remember there being something to it.

I believe that was Flannel's first game back, but I don't think he played much against Wharton. I'm not totally sure though.

Cause I remember hearing a bunch about him...then being upset I didn't get to see much of him on the field.

LOL...turn the lights out game...nice.

Wow...and later in that play off run, we beat WO-S the worse they have been beaten in their history (or so I was told). God, I miss those days.

the first game flannel made an apperance in was against sweeny, where he got very limited playing time. and yes sweeny did turn the lights off after we stopped them and were driving down the field. the wharton game was like the 2nd time where we used flannel in crucial times and he did wat he normally did several times on like 3rd and 8. we built a good haltime lead but couldnt stop ansley, plus tons of offsides by the dline that game and other penalties ruined us. wharton fought hard and didnt give up like some teams do, which was sign of a good team, im pretty sure thats the last time they were in the playoffs beating needville late. sweeny was dc and we were second. all of this should be true considerin i was on the team at the time

It wasn't the worst we've been beaten (52-29 is only 23 points) but it WAS the most points any team has ever scored against us.

We just COULD NOT STOP that no huddle spread offense.

Does Wimberley still run that same offense?

Note* We did not have Flannel that game, I think. I KNOW that even had hwe had him, we wouldn't have won, but we WOULD have been much more effective on offense and scored more, thus Wimberley scoring less.

We had NO ground game that game, when we usually had 200+ yards.

If Flannel plays, I bet it's a 20-30 point game or closer, but he didn't, so oh well.

The Bellville matchup in 2006 was a key example of the "Flannel effect."

This is a great way to get an idea of the history of a team. Just scanning it quickly, I see that in '89 you guys only scored a total of 45 points all year...but only 2 years before, you scored 440....TEN TIMES more!!! It appears those were your highest and lowest years ever....wow. And...it was WO-S that knocked you out!

But 94 seemed like a REALLY bad year with 68 points scored, but 403 scored against you...WOW!!!!

I know play off numbers were in the 87 ynumbers, but still!!!!

87 was the SR year of our best ever player, Wayne Williams... that accounts for all the pts that year. He was named all state at defensive back & at runningback, & was named the 4A offensive player of the year.
In 88 there was some kind of immense blowup of the team in the middle of the season, seems like half the team was gone overnight. You can actually see when it happened by looking at the scores that year. It ushered in the darkest decade of roughneck football ever during the 90's...that was a brutal stretch of football....

Interesting factoid concerning El Campo....from 62 to 68 we played 7 games with them & 6 of the 7 games were shutouts...

El Campo ALSO gave you your worst loss EVER:

Top 5 Biggest Losses of All-Time

1. 1947 - El Campo 0-74
2. 1929 - Brazosport 0-73
3. 1930 - Goose Creek (Baytown Lee) 0-61
4(t). 1922 - El Campo 0-59
4(t). 1994 - Sweeny 12-71

I'm missing a couple of games from the very early years but otherwise I've got results for over 99% of the games that are on record with the U.I.L.

And this is true concerning 1988, IDK what happened, but like half the team quit or something in the middle of the season. You can definitely see when it took place.

That led to MANY down years and things really didn't get turned around until DeAtley and Co. came from LaMarque. That's when the Necks became relevant again.:)

You can really see the winning % drop after that fallout in 88.

I never woulda thunk it, but it shows that little bump in the road Damon used to have a high school in the middle 30ies. Any old time locals know anything about Damons' early history?
