Lady Stangs set stage for second 2-3A showdown

SNYDER — Thanks to Friday's three-game sweep at Snyder, the stage is set for a second District 2-3A showdown between Sweetwater and Brownwood. The two teams will meet in the regular-season finale Tuesday in Brownwood to decide playoff seeding, with the possibility of another match a few days later.
Sweetwater (8-1 district, 32-7 overall) defeated Snyder 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 despite playing without Morgan Shelton, who suffered a hand injury at Wylie. Coach Liz Miller said that Shelton should be able to play against Brownwood.
Dedra Brown and Bennie Smith had nine kills against Snyder, with Smith getting two aces and a dig and Brown also getting two digs. Hanna Kite had three kills, two kill assists and two blocks; Hailey McIntosh had three kills and two digs; Alyssa Reed had two kills, one dig and three blocks; Halie Browning had one kill and seven digs; Meagan Spradlin had 15 kill assists; Laci Jones had nine kill assists and two digs; Jesica Robison had two digs and one block; Felesha Collins had two kills; Whitney Lara had six digs; and Brittney Garza with one dig and one kill assist.
Sweetwater’s JV won 25-13, 25-23, but the freshmen lost 19-25, 25-18, 22-25.

Fans are encouraged to pack Warren Gym tonight and bring a broom as the Brownwood Lady Lions attempt to sweep District 2-3A and capture an outright district championship against the Sweetwater Mustangs on Senior Night.

The Lady Lions have requested that fans attending the game bring brooms as the bid for a 10-0 district run begins at 6 p.m. The first 30 Brownwood fans to arrive at Warren Gym will be presented a complimentary broom.

Or maybe not. Our girls have actually already beat Monahans once this season a few weeks back. Of course it was a meaningless match, but still you never know what can happen. I think both Sweetwater and Bwood have got good quality programs that can play with most others.

Yea please take pictures.:D I remember seeing a few dime pieces at the Wylie/Bwood game walking from the gym to the game.

Brownwwood Lady Lions won in 4 sets and swept the district with a perfect 10-0.

Many of our fans had brooms in hand for the district sweep but Sweetwater had heard of this and many of there fans brought mops... After the fiirst 2 sets, I never saw any of the mops again... but the brooms did come out!

Gotta tell ya though. Sweetwater can play some serious volleyball! The match was very hard hitting and intense. Girls on both sides of the ball play tough. No way would I want to get in front of those rockets!!!

I thought Brownwood had a serious size advantage for the most part but Sweetwater did not care. It was a great match.

I have some pictures and I will try to post a coulpe tommorrow.

They had a pretty good crowd over ther for a tuesday night. Bunch of them were the kids from Freshman and JV teams but a fair amount of adults too. They were plenty loud for a gome so far away.

You know Red, long time ago I had a sales job that put me in Sweetwater monthly. I also sold to the school. I said then and I say now, If I had too move out of Brownwood, Sweetwater would be my next choice. That town has school and community spirit like we do here. Hope you feel as blessed with your town as I do!

Your just jealous that Graham is not on my list.

By the way, Graham is not that big but we stopped at 3 different place before somebody knew where the high shcool or stadium was. thought I was back in killeen or Waco's district.

When we did find someone that knew (at McDonalds), she said, uhhh, go down about that way and uhhhh turn left uhhh I think. then it is uhhhhhh a little ways down uhhhh on the road uhhhh kind of uhhhh that way. Of course we took the uhhhh left and it was supposed to be uhhhh right.

Anyways, had a nice tour of the town.... not a bad looking place. The only thing I did not like about Graham was that freaking scoreboard after the game. It was all messed up!!!
