Wharton won but it was not a stellar performance by the offense. Way too many penalties and a total lack of focus. I'm thinking that maybe the offense wasn't taking the game seriously enough. On the bright side, the defense has only allowed a total of 24 points in the last three games. The D is definitely clicking...

We did clinch a playoff spot tonight and have West Columbia at home next week.

STAFFORD - Two long scoring drives and a stingy defense helped Wharton knock off Stafford 12-0 and move closer to clinching a playoff spot here at Spartan Stadium Friday night.

The Tigers now 3-0 in district 26-3A have clinched no worse than a three-way tie for the last playoff spot as Sweeny improved to 3-0 by knocking off Needville 55-36 who dropped to 1- 2.

Royal, who now sits alone in third place, improved to 2-1 in district play with a 28-18 victory over Columbia who fell to 0-3 in district. The Tigers host the Roughnecks next Friday.

The Tigers defense yielded only 39 yards to the Spartans for the game with only seven of those yards coming in the second half.

The Spartans were forced to punt on their opening drive, and the Tigers took over at their own 32 with 10:52 left in the first quarter.

After DeShavian Williams picked up three yards on the next play, Raymond Felder ran 29 yards to the Spartan 36. Three plays later on third and 7 from the 33, Williams picked up 10 yards to the 34. Then on third and 10 from the 12 picked up 11 yards to the Spartan 1.

Elijah Richardson ran the ball in on the next play for the touchdown. Justin Sherrill's extra point was blocked leaving the score 6-0 with 6:02 left in the first quarter.

The Spartans were forced to punt on their next possession, and the Tigers drove to the Spartan 30 on their next posses ion before turning the ball over on downs.

In the third quarter, on third and 16 from the Spartan 18 the Spartans picked off a Tiger pass but Stafford was called for pass interference and the Tigers got the ball at the Spartan 8.

After Williams picked up seven yards on the next play to the 1, Richardson ran the ball in on the next play.

The two-point conversion attempt was no good leaving the score 12-0 with 2:00 left in the third quarter.

After a Tiger fumble the Spartans took over at the Tiger 20 with 5:52 left in the game and on second and 10, Juan Guzman sacked Boris Anyama for a 10-yard loss to the 30.

On fourth and 20, J.J. Green picked up 13 yards but was short of the first down and the Tigers took over at their own 17 with 5:00 left in the game.

The Tigers drove to the Spartan 18 on the next drive before the clock ran out.

The Tigers racked up 292 yards for the game with 256 coming on the ground.

Felder led the Tigers on the ground with 104 yards on 11 carries and

Williams added 96 yards on 19 carries.
