3A Texas High School Football Team of the Decade 2000-2007(9)

This means for the entirety of the decade; not best one season team of the decade!

Consider Only Games As A 3A Team

Yes, that means Celina's 00, 01, and 05 championships are irrelevant for this discussion.

Yes, that means whatever success Everman has sustained in 4A is irrelevant for this discussion.

With 2 seasons yet to be completed some teams can still make a case for where they should stand.

Liberty Hill, Abilene Wylie, and Gilmer were the first teams that come to my mind.

I'd have to further develop a list to decide how I would handle Everman. The jump to 4A hurts their case, but they did win two 3A championships during the time frame which only Liberty Hill can match.

Right now who would be your team of the decade? Top 5? 10?

The closest thing I have to show just that was posted a few months back right here on the DownLow and the main table of stats is posted below for your perusal.

These are the teams with the most wins AND the teams with the highest winning percentage counting ONLY games played while aligned to the 3A Classification. Unfortunately I divided it up into 4 equal eras of 7 years each so for this decade you have the numbers from 2001-2007. (If you want to be extra-picky you could say that 2001 actually was the first year of this decade)

Liberty Hill and Everman are the only programs to win more than one state title since 2000 (with 2 each)

As of 10/23/08
WO-S' current record as a 3A team since 2000 is now up to 46-7 (86.8% winning percentage)
Gilmer's record is 91-16 (85.0%)
Burnet's is 45-15 (75.0%)
Celina's is 56-7 (88.9%)

We need to get your stuff linked from the homepage! I knew you had the info and that it had been posted but when I did a search I wasn't sure which words to use. So, I didn't find it! Once again, thanks for all your hard work and info you provide us!

This might come in handy as it lists EVERY 3A team to notch AT LEAST 11 wins each year from 1980-2007

The answer to THAT (for current 3A teams since 2000) would be Port Isabel, Sweetwater, Midland Greenwood, China Spring, La Vernia, Perryton, Abilene Wylie and Celina... although a couple of those are in danger of falling off the list in '08

...and there's not a single Region III team in the bunch

3A Teams are listed in YELLOW

In preparation for the upcoming playoffs... I went over the numbers of consecutive playoff appearances across the state and here's where we stand going in to the 2008 tournament.

56 teams have qualified every year since 2000 (8 consecutive years)
(10 currently have a streak of 8): Denton Ryan, Harlingen, Houston Lamar, Idalou, McCamey, Pearland, Port Isabel, Rice Consolidated, Southlake Carroll, Sweetwater

46 teams have qualified every year since 1999 (9 consecutive years)
(12 currently have a streak of 9): Abilene, Allen, Dallas Lincoln, Everman, Gunter, Lubbock Monterey, Midland Greenwood, Nazareth, Pflugerville Connally, San Marcos, Stratfod, Whitewright

34 teams have qualified every year since 1998 (10 consecutive years)
(5 currently have a streak of 10): China Spring, Euless Trinity, Lufkin, Roscoe, Shiner

29 teams have qualified every year since 1997 (11 consecutive years)
(5 currently have a streak of 11): Corrigan-Camden, Kerrville Tivy, La Vernia, New Braunfels, Perryton

24 teams have qualified every year since 1996 (12 consecutive years)
(7 currently have a streak of 12): Aledo, Dayton, De Soto, Ennis, Smithson Valley, The Woodlands, Wolfforth Frenship

17 teams have qualified every year since 1995 (13 consecutive years)
(3 currently have a streak of 13): East Chambers, Highland Park, Windthorst

14 teams have qualified every year since 1994 (14 consecutive years)
(5 currently have a streak of 14): Abilene Wylie, Celina, Dallas Skyline, Galena Park North Shore, Newton

9 teams have qualified every year since 1992 (16 consecutive years)

(1 currently has a streak of 20): Austin Westlake

Marlin would definately be on the list.....even if they've had weak districts alot of the time :P But....they're in 2A now.

Vernon has made to Semi's twice I believe but we also have missed the playoffs at least once and maybe again this year.

Wylie has to be in there, Celina has been a monster since being in 3A, China Spring, Royce City, West orange stark,etc....

My choice is Liberty Hill they have had 5 11+ win seasons which is most by 1 over Cuero I think. Cuero should get a consideration as well for the top spot.

now i know this is totally rediculous, but if celina won another title this decade (not necessarily this year :p ) and LH didn't win another one, Celina could make a semi-serious claim to be team of the decade in two classes!:taunt:

And if WO-S were to win back-to-back titles in '08 and '09 they would be in the picture as well....

There are a LOT of IF's that could still happen before December 2009

They can be considered! But since they went up LH gets the nod from me for the top spot right now.

ppl define being the best in different ways, wins, titles, playoff apearances it justs depends on who you are, personally i think any of the teams that is consistently in the playoffs would be the better teams

I think LH locks it up if they can win one more title.

This years season, has messed that streak up. The Tarpons are not seeing the post season, for the 1st time since 1999! :(
