.......I have always wondered why we are classified as "Midland" Greenwood on many polls. We are about 11 miles outside of Midland, and have our own Independent School District. We are not affiliated with Midland ISD at all!! Is this normal in East Texas where many small towns surround a bigger town??

It's pretty common in all areas, down south we have Corpus Christi Calallen, and they are west of Corpus and not affilliated. Same thing with the towns around Texarkana (Pleasant Grove). Sometimes I think they do that so the newspaper people can find it on the map. :D

That makes sense. My husband just told me there is a small town somewhere in Texas which is called Green Wood. It's two words where we are just one, but I guess it could cause some confusion.

Rangermom,

I looked on my mapping program and there are four other "Greenwood's" in Texas. One in Red River County, Parker County, Hopkins County and Wise County. That's probably why they stick the "Midland" in front of your Greenwood. So folks will know which Greenwood they are referring to. :D

WOW.....Midland Greenwood doesn't bother me, I just didn't understand why it was that way. Thanks for the imput.

yep, just call someone from academy a temple little river academy graduate and they will get all over you "we aint from temple" is what they will say (or something along those lines)

cause they are about 14 miles outside of temple and yet they are always called temple academy, kind like you situation, we had a coach from there who hated to be called from temple
