Goodness...I'd imagine that should probably merit a fine since that video shows him trying to hit the guy from South Carolina! I'm sure the national ref network is busy with this one!

One more shuffle and he could have squared up on him. He appears to break down and get some leverage before the blow. Maybe and ex-linebacker having a flashback!

Haha. . . reminds me of the Buffalo Wild Wings commercials. Those are great with the ref tripping the guy on his way to scoring the winning TD.:D

Okay, so this is real? Did Spurrier have anything to say at the time? What was the crowd reaction? Did the QB jump up and get in the umpires face?

No. The SEC people released a statement saying he was just trying to defend himself

I just find it hard to believe that a 60 year old man would purposely put himself on the line to tackle a player

I'm guessing he had a flashback to when he played in the SEC. No excuse though for initiating the contact. He deserves a fine and suspension. Oh well just another worthless zebra.

Update: Joe Person of the Columbia State reports that the Wilbur Hackett Jr., the umpire involved in the play, was a three-year starter at linebacker for Kentucky in the late-1960s.

haha, watching that video it looked like he shadowed the qb, shuffled with him then lowered his shoulder. i laughed.
