This Graham team is apparently getting better each game. The Steers get a win this week with McCoy having a big game.

sweetwater starts slow, gets a pick and just dont stop after that. mccoy throws 3 ints for the night and sweetwater wins by 11

Sweetwater has a very good defense, and a scrappy as hell bunch of DBs. McCoy will be running for his life and throwing picks all night. If Sweetwater can just get rid of the fumble bug, this game will not be close. But thats a BIG IF!!!

Graham isn't the team people think they are, that #3 is a good athlete.

I totally agree Sweetwater wins big. Stangs just got to much
very talented defensively this stang bunch. Wylie,Sweetwater and Brownwood are the big dogs from this district.

I'm thinking Sweetwater should win this game. Graham's QB won't have a chance to throw. Well maybe out of bounds when he is scrambling for his life. My prediction: Sweetwater-28 Graham-7

He's got the flu. He played mostly on defense. He came out
every few plays to get oxygen and drink fluids. He probably
shouldn't have played at all. He wasn't having that though.
Hopefully he'll be better soon.

I hope its not bad.

I remember I had the mother of all flu once in college and honestly thought I was going to die...burnin up with fever for days. I got to craving navel oranges (easy to peel and no seeds) and had my sister bring me a big box full and I ate all of em. My fever broke and I havent had a case of flu like that since.

As for this game, we played both of ya'll and if #24 is still out it might be close, if he's 100% then I'll have to go with the Mustangs.

So, a big goose egg for the year would be nice. I think the Wylie 7th grade B team coach has already heard about this scoreless streak, and plans on putting some of the 8th grade A teamers on the 7th grade B team when we play ya'll.:D

I guess I missed this. I don't know the score of the A game. The
only thing I know about the freshman is that the starting QB
is the HC's son.

Mustangs host improving Steers

Written by Ron Howell

Thursday, 16 October 2008

As rivalries go, Sweetwater-Graham can't quite match Texas-Oklahoma. But they have one element in common — both have a guy named McCoy at quarterback. Of course, the Mustangs are hoping that Case McCoy won't do to them Friday at Mustang Bowl what his older and better-known brother, Colt McCoy, did for Texas last Saturday. For those of you who just arrived from Siberia, Colt led a 45-35 win over OU, one that vaulted the Longhorns to the No. 1 ranking in the country.
Sweetwater will actually be facing a pair of McCoys when tomorrow's District 2-3A contest kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Graham's head coach is Brad McCoy, who before taking his current job was the head coach at Class 2A Jim Ned where Colt McCoy became one of the most prolific high school quarterbacks in Texas history before going on to play for Texas.
Sweetwater will undoubtedly have to contain Case McCoy, a 6-2, 180-pound junior who last year threw for 2,008 yards and 22 touchdowns. Last week, he was 13-of-25 for 133 yards and one touchdown in a 30-26 loss to Snyder.
However, the Steers aren't one-dimensional. They can run, as evidenced by 202 yards and three rushing scores against the Tigers. Graham's Hubbell Allen accounted for three TDs, catching a 5-yard pass for his first score and also scoring on runs of 5 and 24 yards during a fourth-quarter rally in which the Steers (1-5, 0-1) almost overcame a 30-14 deficit. Cody Parilla scored Graham's other touuchdown on a 3-yard run and finished with 124 yards rushing.
Although the Steers struggled early in lopsided defeats to Clyde and Burkburnett, they have played much better since then despite having a young team. Graham has just five starters and 10 lettermen back from last year's 10-2 team that reached the area round of the playoffs, but has grown up a lot, according to Sweetwater coach Kent Jackson. "They had a young cast at the beginning of the year, but they have come on," Jackson said. "Their record is no indication of what kind of team they have."
Graham's biggest problems have been on the defensive side. The Steers have allowed an average of 37 points a game, and they gave up 351 rushing yards against Snyder.
Sweetwater had no trouble running the ball in a 20-6 win over Breckenridge last week, with a season-high 431 yards — including 235 by Daniel Jackson — in its district opener. Despite that production, the Mustangs had trouble putting the Buckaroos away due to four turnovers and eight penalties. "We were our own worst ene-my," Kent Jackson said. "But our guys are committed to doing things better this week and I know they will."
Sweetwater held Brecken-ridge to 164 yards and the defense was led by Robbie Holsey, who blocked a punt that led to the team's first touchdown and also had six solo tackles and six hurries. However, Holsey suffered a broken collarbone and could be out for several weeks.
Friday marks Sweetwater's next-to-last home game, and the Mustangs (5-1, 1-0) need a win to stay atop District 2-3A with the toughest part of the schedule still to come.
After this week, Sweetwater plays Snyder and Brownwood on the road before finishing the season at at home Nov. 7 against Wylie.
