View Full Version : Region II GotW (7): Celina (4-2) @ Prosper (5-1)

several good rivalry games this week, incuding a few that could decide district titles

Prosper's 35-14 win over Argyle makes this the natural district title game, barring powerful upsets

Paris and North Lamar have a more natural rivlary, and they both are the cream of 10-3A

Madison and Roosevelt hate each other, and Madison would love to replace last year with memories like 2006

Pleasant Grove sent a strong message with a 41-14 win over Liberty-Eylau. Atlanta maybe the only team left in 16-3A that can give them a run for their money. Either way, we'll learn a lot about Atlanta--Pleasant Grove has already proven they belong at the top of Region II

Alvarado lost to Kaufman this week, but should still end up in the playoffs, regardless of what happens here--however, Kennedale should be prepared to scuffle

Week 7 Pick 'Em:
#1 Celina @ #4 Prosper
#7 Paris vs. #6 Paris North Lamar
#9 Dallas Madison vs. #19 Dallas Roosevelt
#11 Atlanta vs. #2 Texarkana Pleasant Grove
#14 Alvarado @ #3 Kennedale

region II pages also updated with rankings, schedules, etc.
district pages will be finally updated this weekend as well

I can only comment on the Celina Prosper game, but from this side of the Atlantic I think the Bobcats have this one.

PS Can we pick up any Celina games on the internet, our boys over here want to hear their friends playing on Friday nights.

Mike,
I don't know if the Prosper game will be broadcast or not. However, there's usually a game thread rolling on here with Rix and company.

#1 :flaming: Celina @ #4:ack!: Prosper --- Celina by--------

#7 Paris vs. #6 Paris North Lamar --- Paris North in a squeaker.

#9 Dallas Madison vs. #19 Dallas Roosevelt ---- Going for Velt. Maddy will self destruct.
(I think Madison can only beat them in a forfeit :p )

#11 Atlanta vs. #2 Texarkana Pleasant Grove --- TPG by 2 scores

#14 Alvarado @ #3 Kennedale --- Kennedale by 15

My own personal picks:

Celina by 21

PNL by 3

Madison by 10

Pleasant Grove by 17

Kennedale by 24

the great thing about these games, however, is that the other teams all could easily upset the favorites

Prosper handled Argyle a lot better than most of us thought they would

Hard to know if Prosper will be the 27-21 type team from 05, or the 62-13 team from last year

I think Celina will win this one, but not in a blowout this year. This Prosper team is very scrappy and has a very well-balanced offense. They also have a lot of fight in them. 30-24 Celina

If Celina's defense plays like it did against sanger, prosper could be in for a very long night. I was also impressed with the way Worrell played at QB, although I think that the backup, Stephenson, could be better, and that would allow Worrell to play on D. I also believe that JaMarque Simmons could be the real deal in a couple years. Any word on #22 and whether he tweaked his ankle or if they just weren't playing him cause it was 43-0 in the first? Regardless, I'll take Celina by at least 3 tds.

I heard that Waldrep will be fine he got his foot stepped on, but nothing to serious coach Ford pulled him because there was no point in getting him hurt when we going to win.

d0tc0m
10-12-2008, 09:37 PM
Yeah I figured it was something small like that. I can see why Ford pulled him, the game was outta hand from the outset, but I would've liked to have seen him get a few more reps, but Ford gets paid to make the decisions and not me (and rightfully so). Prosper looks like they've fielded a pretty salty team this year, but as with every year, it's hard to tell how good they really are. We will see Friday night, wish I could make it in for this game too!

I'm just guessing, but home/away starts over every realignment with new schedules.

The game will be broadcast by Millennium Sports on 91.3FM KDKR, you can listen on the internet too at http://www.kdkr.org/

Prosper's QB is the real deal and if Celina does not come ready to play at their best, Prosper has a very good chance of handing the Bobcats their first district loss since I can remember.

Was he "the real deal" last year when you had the best TE in the state?

IF the boys get up to play like they did against sanger this will be a good one..... for Celina. Sanger did a lot of trash talking. Guess they should'a kept their mouth closed......:D

Ah dont you worry the Bobcats will be more than ready. The district title is Celina's and they dont want to lose it. The district title comes through Celina!

What do I do? I've seen Prosper and I know only a little about Celina(missed the scrimmage). I thought Prosper would give Celina a game last year, and Celina killed them. Prosper is probably better overall than last year, but do the Bobcats still have their number? Celina seems to be a lttle down for them this season, but they are still Celina (50-0 at the half over 5-0 Sanger last week). I say this one could go either way this year, with a slight edge to Celina.

Yeah Jamarick (i'm told is the correct spelling) is Celina born and raised. His dad graduated from Celina a couple years before my dad. From what I hear he just hasn't been used to people hitting him cause he's just been too fast for defenses in 8th grade and JV. Once he bulks up a little bit and gets comfortable in a varsity uniform, he'll be the real deal. He's got a couple good RBs in McCartney and Waldrep to model himself after.

I am going to consider this a statement game for Celina.

I never worry about Prosper, but since everyone continues to overrate the Beagles, I would hope that once the Bobcats crush the Eagles yet again, you will see this incarnation of the Bobcats start climbing in the polls. :)

Yep there is a lot of hate involved in this rivalry. I know TXB said everything was friendly with all the coaches last year after the game, but that's not entirely true. Bad weather probably makes this game closer than I would have predicted a few days ago. I would have said we'd win by 21 and it would only have been that close because Velt treats their game against us like it's the Super Bowl. This is a game we should win going away, but the weather plus some fired up Mustang players and coaches will make the game competitive I believe. The difference for Velt this time around is there are no more former Hutch players to save the day for them anymore.

The scores weren't that great. Thing was you could see where the JV was suffering from the guys moved up to assist that would normally have stayed down and still we played well particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

One plays LB, and one plays NT. They can both move very quickly for their size, which is very, very big.

Thanks, it is amazing to see my "boys" become men right before my eyes! The big one is so much taller than me, I tend to not get in his face too much anymore as it is just not intimidating to have to yell up at someone!
