The Stars open the season tonight at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets. They enter this year on the short list of favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

No defending Stanley Cup Champion has made it past the first round in years, so that's where I'm getting the idea. In fact, the last time a team made it out of the first round after winning the Cup was 2001 when the Devils lost to the Avalanche in the Finals. Combine that with Detroit's playoff failures prior to last year, and I think there's a pretty good case to be made that Detroit will be a huge disappointment this year.

Did they add any Swedes to the roster in the offseason?:D

Fabian Brunnstrom...he was heavily pursued by the Red Wings and Maple Leafs, but chose the Stars.
