The rankings on some teams are RGV rankings...

No. 7 RAYMONDVILLE AT No. 10 HIDALGO
WHERE: Bill Pate Stadium, Hidalgo, 7:30 p.m. Friday
RECORDS: Raymondville (4-1 overall 2-0 district); Hidalgo (4-1, 2-0)
LAST MEETING: Raymondville, 35-7 (2007)
ADVANTAGES
OFFENSE: Raymondville - With each passing week, the Bearkats seem to strengthen on offense. Raymondville boasts the Valley's No. 1 offense, churning out nearly 462 yards per game.
DEFENSE: Raymondville - The Kats still have the 32-3A's top defense, allowing only 227 yards per clip. Up front, they're very aggressive and very good against the run.
INTANGIBLES: Push - This is a huge contest between two of the league's three unbeatens. The winner gets the inside track toward a district title.
PREDICTION: Raymondville 42, Hidalgo 34
- Armando Garza

PROGRESO at No. 8 RIO HONDO
WHERE: Bobcat Stadium, Rio Hondo, 7:30 p.m. Friday
RECORDS: Progreso (3-2 over-all, 0-2 district Rio Hondo 3-2, 1-1).
LAST MEETING: Rio Hondo 28, Progreso 0 (2007)
ADVANTAGES
OFFENSE: Rio Hondo - The Bobcats have shown the ability to run the football and they used that to beat Port Isabel last week. The Bobcats are third in 32-3A in rushing (behind Zapata and Progreso).
DEFENSE: Rio Hondo - Though Progreso is ranked second in the league and are sound, the Cats should be able to slow Vega and the Red Ant ground game.
INTANGIBLES: Rio Hondo - It's homecoming weekend for the Bobcats and though they have a showdown with Hidalgo looming, they're focused.
PREDICTION: Rio Hondo 34, Progreso 13
- Armando Garza

ZAPATA AT LA FERIA
WHERE: Lion Stadium, La Feria, 7:30 p.m. Friday
RECORDS: Zapata (5-0 overall, 2-0 district La Feria 1-4, 0-2)
LAST MEETING: La Feria 31-26, bi-district playoff (2006)
ADVANTAGES
OFFENSE: Zapata - Though La Feria had perhaps its best outing of the season last week, the Hawks get the nod
DEFENSE: Zapata - The maroon & gold have the district's third-ranked defense, allowing 285 yards per game.
INTANGIBLES: La Feria - This is a must-win for La Feria. A loss would likely make it extremely difficult to get into the playoffs.
PREDICTION: Zapata 29, La Feria 21
- Armando Garza

PORT ISABEL AT LYFORD
WHERE: Bulldog Stadium, Lyford, 7:30 p.m. Friday
RECORDS: Port Isabel (1-4 overall, 0-2 district Lyford 3-2, 1-1)
LAST MEETING: Port Isabel 34, Lyford 6, bi-district (2006)
ADVANTAGES
OFFENSE: Lyford - Plain and simple, the Bulldogs can chuck the football. They lead the area in passing yardage and QB Noe Valdez (1,537 yards, 13 TDs) is the top passer in the RGV.
DEFENSE: Port Isabel - The Tarps are better statistically and are solid. The Seawall has given up an average of 286 yards per game compared to Lyford's 321.
INTANGIBLES: Push - It may not officially be panic time for PI, but they really need a win. The Tarpons have just made mistakes and haven't executed, according to Monty Stumbaugh.
PREDICTION: Lyford 41, Port Isabel 28
- Armando Garza
