Because all students deserve a chance to play an athletic team sport they enjoy or one they are good at.

I have to say I love soccer for the little kids. I think it is great until they are about 6th grade. My kids love it and it is great for teaching them to be aggressive and play as a team.
As far as watching it on TV or anything like that- I hate it. I can't stand it. Of course, my husband is in love with Mia Hamm and that doesn't help things, either.

croquet isnt that physically demanding......it can get hard....after several beverages though....especailly knowing that you better swing that mallet with one hand so you dont have to put down the beverage in your hand :)

I think soccer is a great sport. My son loves it. And being a football guy, I have seen where the footwork and running has helped him in football.

Soccer is a demanding sport, true. I just wish they weren't such sissies. Good grief they flop worse than NBA players. As far as most demanding sport played, for me it was Rugby. Constant running, major contact without pads, and in my league, 40 minute halves with a 5 minute half (just enough time to chug a couple beers). Brutal!!

I can see where you wouldnt like soccer, seeing as how a majority of you saying its a worthless sport are likely uncoordinated with your feet :)

I love soccer, I played in high school. I can honestly say, it was the most fun I had in my career. And I grew up in a football house, and had football number one on my list for a long time...until I played soccer in high school/on a club.

soccer is right up there with football, both take a lot of work to do right. soccer is more demanding in runnin aspects, and most of the teams that are good their kids are in cross country too. soccer is fun to play, saying from personal experiance playin in high school and rec, and now tryin to play in college

Think of it this way if there was not soccer we would still have straight on kickers.

My 6yo son is in his 3rd year of soccer right now. I love it and so does he. All the running keeps him in shape and helps him build some endurance. It also helps teach the kids teamwork. I played soccer for 7 years and now I am coaching my son's team. He does want to play football next year but I don't know if I should let me. Some people tell me to keep him in soccer until he hits junior high and then let him play football so that he can avoid injuries or something like that. As long as he keeps wanting to play sports(soccer, baseball, teeball) I am gonna keep signing him up. I just can't stand people who try to knock it. It is a lot harder than it looks.

I think eventually soccer, both boys and girls, will make its way down to the 3A ranks, at least in our area. It is played up in the northern part of the state, right? Anyways, I'll support my boys whether they play soccer or football.

they have some soccer teams in the houston area, like WC Br sealy, but they all play in 4a districts

I support soccer for youths over football untill the 6th grade because of the footwork it teaches. I don't know about other 3a towns but ours can not get enough kids the right age + weight to put a full pad team out there, and if that is the case it is not safe for them.

We play in a 4a district...its tough tough competition, because we also have the pretty much accepted toughest district in the state...or did before realignment helped us out in a huge way. We had Dripping Springs, Boerne, Fredericksburg, Alamo Heights, New Braunfels, New Braunfels Canyon, Kerrville Tivy, Bandera, Wimberley. It was pretty rough.

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world and can regularly draw crowds in excess of 100,000. Some of the top clubs are Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Liverpool. My favorite players throughout history are Pele, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Drogba, and Hamm. Some up and coming talents include Messi and Pato.

One of the best things about soccer is that it is a good workout for our football defensive backs. Several of our DB's also play soccer. Being a soccer defender is a lot like playing cover 1 in football.

it is not the most physically demanding sport...

rugby, hockey, and basketball all require more endurance and athletic ability than soccer.......

But in basketball and hockey (I don't know about rugby) you can make frequent substitutions. In soccer I think a team can only make 3 the whole game and you can't go back in so that means 8 guys have to play the entire game.

thats true

but in soccer, half the players are standing around at any given time watching things going on on the other side of the field, so they get rest also.....

:D Yall soccer fans don't need to get all ruffled. My pic was just jabbin'. (can't speak for the others) I played from 3rd grade up and with several select teams. The reaction was almost as good as making fun of golf  on here. You should read that thread...:foul::bigcry:
