what a game... I still haven't settled down...

Lyford took the ball and marched down the field with their no-huddle offense. It took the Hawks several possessions to adjust to their O. Lyford scored on a series of completions and took an early 7-0 lead.

Zapata then took the ensuing kickoff all the way to the 42 yard line. In complete contrast to Lyford, Zapata just pounded the ball on offense with a series of runs from #17 Isaac Patterson and #33 Sergio "The Juggernaut" Quintanilla. Zapata tied the game at 7.

Lyford undaunted picked apart the Hawks secondary for another passing TD. On the play star TB/DB Isaac Patterson tried to break up the play in the endzone and ended up with a broken arm. This is where it all went berserk. It took about 10-15 minutes for the ambulance to get Patterson off the field because on Lyford's first touchdown they took #31 Gerardo Buentello off the field (he later came back in though). After the injury timeout on the PAT the lights on the visitor's side went out. Play was once again interrupted for about 25 more minutes. Once play resumed Zapata's drive stalled and was forced to punt. During the play our punter lost grip of the ball and went down to pick it up and when he did he was called down on a knee. Lyford had great field position inside Hawk territory. The Hawks picked off a bomb on 4th and 4 but were called offsides on the play. The Bulldogs proceeded to advance to a 1st and 10 at the 11. Lyford made it inside the 1 for a 1st and Goal. On 1st down Lyford got popped in the backfield and coughed up the ball. Hawks recovered the ball. Zapata goes 3 and out with a multitude of false starts that backs up the ball to the 3 yard line.

Zapata punting out of the endzone gets a good punt out past the 40 yard line. Lyford takes over and again on first down the QB gets drilled in the back and their is another loose ball that once again is recovered by the Hawks to end one of the longest first halves I've ever seen.

3rd quarter Hawks take the ball and score making it 13-14 Lyford but miss the PAT. (bad snap)

Hawks later on score again making it 19-14 but miss 2pt conversion.

4th quarter Hawks score on another long brutal running possession and make it 26-14 with 9:07 in the 4th.

Lyford refused to quit and they completed a 50 yd TD pass that could've been picked to make it 26-20. Now its Lyford's turn for a bad snap and they miss their PAT.

Zapata takes the ball after a touchback and the drive stalls at about the 35 yrd line. On 4th and 4 on the Hawks side of the field Zapata goes for it and fails to convert for a first down.

Lyford takes over with about 2 minutes left. On their 4th down it looked like Lyford was going for a screen option pass play (*cough* trick play *cough*). But before the WR could throw it down field he dropped the screen pass to essentially end the game. The Hawks went back out in the victory formation and QB kneeled their way to a 5-0 (2-0) start to the 2008 season.

That does sound like a pretty exciting game! I enjoyed reading your recap.

thanks... just got word that our TB Patterson only suffered a dislocated shoulder not broken arm.

You're welcome. That's definitely good news. Hate to see any player suffer an injury that would end their season.

Great win for the Hawks, 2-0 in district and unbeaten this year with a power running game. Keep it going :)
