Manuel Johnson was a 3-year starter for the Buckeyes. He started his sophmore and junior years at WR and for his senior year switched to QB, leading Gilmer to its only 3a state championship.

Congrats MJ!! Gilmer is proud of you!

I'm sure glad that he has turned into a good WR, he sure wasn't much QB. http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/5809/roflsmiliemn4.gifhttp://img240.imageshack.us/img240/5809/roflsmiliemn4.gifhttp://img240.imageshack.us/img240/5809/roflsmiliemn4.gifhttp://img240.imageshack.us/img240/5809/roflsmiliemn4.gif

And that scoreboard doesn't bother me. Manuel and his Buckeyes could do that to about anyone that year.

I had the chance to watch this game and Manuel made it look so easy. I remember when they played the state game and no he wasnt much of a QB and his first year at Oklahoma i though he wouldnt do anything. Look at him now, has the chance to go to the NFL but hope it doesnt get to his head. Good job Manuel

Manuel Johnson, QB - Gilmer (2004) stats:

273 (PC) - 404 (PA) - 4,098 (Yards) - 48 TDs
plus 1,033 yards rushing

He was definitely a phenom!

OK, let me get this straight, he was All State WR in 2003 and All State QB in 2004. He caught 79 passes for 1401 yds and 13 TD's in 2003. OK he was and is a great reciever. I want to address the "wasn't much of a QB" statement . 2004 stats

Attempts 404
Completions 273
Comp % 68%
Yards 4098
Yards per attempt 10.1 Yards per completion 15.01
TD's 48 One TD every 8.4 attempts

565 total yards in quarter final against Tatum in 2004

I am so glad he was not much of a quarteback, can you imagine what the stats would have been if he was just a "good" quarterback.....

you stole the words out of my mouth-great!

even a celina fan knows that johnson was a rediculous performer at both positions

not too many WR's throw for 4,000 yards
:)

(although patrick hutka was another, i believe)

I met Manuel one time when he helped evaluate kids at a Van youth basketball camp draft day a few years ago (was friends with a Van basketball player). Anyway, he seemed like a great guy. Congrats to Manuel on a great season so far.

I can't speak for the person who posted behind me but my post about Manuel was in jest thus the ROFL smilie. After watching this game,

I would think it was obvious that I was joking. Unfortunately other than probably the two that it was intended for, it seems others have mis-understood. I would think that Manuel could have probably chosen to go to many colleges to play QB but probably figured his best path to the next level and probably in hopes of the next level were as a WR.

If I am not mistaken Oklahoma State was interested in him going there as a QB, and I am sure some Texas colleges would have taken him as a QB, schools like SMU and North Texas
