Coppell, Hebron volleyball teams' Komen night

The Coppell-Hebron volleyball match Tuesday night was part of the District 6-5A matches that were fundraisers for the Dallas chapter of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, which for 25 years has been fighting to cure breast cancer. As part of the fund-raising night, Coppell and Hebron wore pink jerseys.

Coppell had fans pledge a certain amount for every dig it would have in the match. I don't know how many digs Coppell had, but it will probably raise a lot of money for Komen. The team's goal is to surpass the $13,000 it raised last year with its "Digging for a Cure" night.

Coppell won the match, but everyone looks pretty happy in the photo taken by Tim Martin. Thanks to Coppell coach Sherri Hankins for passing it along.

I watched a football game last year at Pilot Point where they wrapped in pink tape for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

No better combo than---good cause+ good kids. Both schools should be extra proud of these girls.

Coppell volleyball raises $15,000 for cancer treatment

The Coppell volleyball team's first "Dig for the Cure" last year raised almost $14,000 for the Dallas chapter of Komen for the Cure, a nonprofit that battles breast cancer. This year the team wanted to surpass it, and it was successful. The Dig for the Cure match Sept. 30 against Hebron, in which the Coppell players took monetary pledges for each dig they made, raised more than $15,000. That total also includes flat donations and money from the sale of baked goods and pink T-shirts.

"Dig for the Cure means a lot to me because both my grandma and my aunt have breast cancer," said senior captain Lexi Ornell. "Raising money by playing the game I love is something I really enjoy."

"I am very proud of our athletes for working so hard for this cause," Coppell coach Sherri Hankins said. "A team sport, such as volleyball, teaches young ladies how important it is to work with and for others. In real life, it's essential that we all strive to give more than we take. Dig for the Cure takes the focus off the scoreboard and helps us realize we should do all we can to help others through difficult times."

That is awesome! My mother is a 33 year survivor of breast cancer. Her twin sister and her daughter have recently gone through treatment. It is a wonderful thing to see our young people doing things for such a huge cause.:cheerl: :cheerl:
