According to Dave Campbell...of the 20 teams in the state championship games last year, 15 were running teams.

In most cases, I agree. A balanced attack is better. But, when you have a running game that can successfully make 4-5 yds per carry every down, there is no need to pass. It's more important to control the time of possession and score on every possession.
Basically, a team should do what it does best (ala Liberty Hill). As many coaches say "Dance with the one that brung you."

I will say that I have always believed if a team could run the wing or slot-t to perfection AND be able to shift into a passing game seamlessly, they would give DCs fits trying to figure out what to do.

If you can effectively run for 4-5 yards per game, then you may see no need to pass. But is that fair to the kid in your school district that has the best talent you have seen come through your program at receiver or tight end? How is he going to get noticed if you run, run, run all the time? If you are set up as a Wing-T or Slot-T program, that is one thing. There are several spread teams that can run the ball for 5-10 yards per carry consistently, but they still get the other kids involved offensively. I can remember when Navasota had two receivers in 96, Douglas Frankin and Jermaine Henderson. Those two were great receivers and Coach McGallion opened up the veer option, which was gaining 5+ per carry, to some passing to get their talents to contribute, and it worked.
