Central Texas Class 3A districts breakdown

District 8-3A
So far: Liberty Hill is 4-0, as expected, but the Panthers have won three close games by a total of only 12 points. Wimberley started strong (a 40-0 win over Luling) but has lost three straight, while Llano is the opposite: a close loss at Rockdale followed by three straight wins.
Three questions:
Will Wimberley turn things around in time for later-district games against Liberty Hill, Llano and Fredericksburg?
How will Fredericksburg affect the playoff picture?
Who'll be the odd team out of the postseason between Burnet, Llano and Wimberley?
Who's hot: Liberty Hill and its state-best 28 straight wins, Wimberley freshman RB Dennis Smith, and Llano, which has won three straight.
Our picks: 1. Liberty Hill; 2. Fredericksburg; 3. Wimberley
The sleeper: Llano
Key game: Liberty Hill at Wimberley, Oct. 24
District 24-3A
So far: Rockdale, which has nice wins over Llano, Lampasas and Marlin in non-district, has risen to the top of this district along with Navasota, which looks just as good as last year's regional quarterfinalists.
Three questions:
Can Rockdale's non-district momentum translate in to a 24-3A title?
How will Cameron Yoe QB Steven Townsend fare in district play?
Who will end up with more season rushing yards: UT-bound Chris Whaley of Madisonville or LSU-bound Dexter Pratt of Navasota?
Who's hot: Rockdale and Townsend (6 TDs last week).
Our picks: 1. Navasota; 2. Rockdale; 3. Cameron Yoe
The sleeper: Taylor
Key game: Navasota at Rockdale, Oct. 17
District 25-3A
So far: This district has started out on fire, sparked by surprising Smithville. Giddings has looked just fine without graduated star QB Brock Fitzhenry. And there's not a single team in this district with a losing record — and together, teams are 16-2.
Three questions:
Is Smithville for real, or merely overachieving?
Can Giddings continue to pick up right where it left behind?
Who'll win district — because a favorite's case could be made for just about any team?
Who's hot: Smithville, Giddings QB Rush Plumlee and Sealy RB Dexter Downey.
Our picks: 1. Sealy; 2. Giddings; 3. Smithville
The sleeper: La Grange
Key game: Sealy at Giddings. Oct. 10
