If you're a bit squeamish about injuries I'd advise not watching this. That's some Napoleon McCallum caliber gruesomeness right there. I hope and pray Irby is okay and that he'll get to play football again one day.

I looked to see if there has been any updates, but haven't seen a thing as of yet. I would imagine that the news will probably not be good though. :(

Reminds me of McGahee back in the 2002 fiesta bowl vs. Ohio State

I do too. You just hate seeing a guy go down like that. I hope folks don't blame the Rice DB though because it's a play you see a lot on a weekly basis. He did what most DB's do when they are confronted by a bigger player. I bet that guy for Rice feels awful though right now.

He almost lost his leg after a hit like that. The player that hit him was very upset about it and called several time to wish him well.

I'm watching the Yankees game and the ticker on the bottom of the screen just said Irby has a dislocated knee (ya think?) and that he'll be out for the season. God Bless him in what will be a lengthy rehab process in order to get back out onto the field next season.

Quote:

Texas tight end Blaine Irby will miss the rest of the season after dislocating his right knee Saturday against Rice, trainer Kenny Boyd said Sunday.

Irby started all three games this season and had 10 catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns. He had seven receptions for 62 yards and a TD in the Longhorns' season-opening victory over Florida Atlantic.

Texas coach Mack Brown said Irby will get a medical redshirt year and have three seasons of eligibility when he returns in 2009.

"We have a great history of tight ends and Blaine was quickly developing into the type of player to follow in those footsteps," Brown said. "He was getting better every week and making a big impact in our offense."

Peter Ullman and Greg Smith both have played this season and are expected to compete for the starting tight end job.

Irby is expected to undergo surgery.

"It's going to be a long journey, and I just have to take it one step at a time," Irby said. "I know the tight end spot and the offense won't lose a beat because Peter and Greg are there

You always hate to see injuries happen to anyone especially those that end a year's career or worse yet a football career. You never get used to it even though it happens due to the nature of the game. Hopefully, he will be fully recovered and ready to go next year. It is a shame because he was really starting to develope as a tight in but thank goodness he will get a medical redshirt this year and still have three more good years.
