What year did you see it, and who played? Anybody out there who has never seen a championship game?

Mine was kinda interesting as it was the very last Class B championship game ever played. Was between Union Hill and Wheeler @ Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. Union Hill won 14-7 and later went on to win another championship in 1982 and a runner-up in 1984.

Earliest I can remember is Abilene Wylie vs Cuero @ Floyd Casey, won on last second FG. 2005

Then the last 2 4A DI state championships.

That would be December 1973 (my Sophomore year)
Cuero over Mt Pleasant - 21-7 :)

I watched my 2nd state championship the next year (wow, I forgot against who though) :) and

thought I was going to see a 3rd one in a row but lost to Ennis 12-6 :(

My first State Title game was in 1976 at Texas Stadium. Rockdale beat Childress 23-6. For me, my dad and his friend Cecil, it was like the hicks going to the city. We got lost 5 miles outside Dallas, got directions from Mario Andretti (who by the way sped away from us in his red convertable) and got on a one way street going the other way. The only way we found the stadium was I (at 7 yrs old) saw the stadium lit up and we just got lucky and got there at kickoff.

The game was great, we won, and celebrated..... Only to not be able to find the car to get home...........

My first was Stephenville and Lamarque in 93 and 94 and Sealy and Atlanta in 94. After that I didnt see another one until Southlake Katy and Hutto Tatum played the double header at Texas Stadium in 05 I saw both of those games. Last year I saw LH- Gilmer, and Tatum Farmersville.

First championship game that I witnessed was Daingerfield/Sweeny 1983. Daingerfield won 42-0 and had two touchdowns called back. Best 3a football team that I have ever seen play...I think many would agree. Tracy Simien for Sweeny did lay the wood to one of the Daingerfield players though...Tracy went on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs I believe. By the end of the game the Daingerfield coaches were letting their lineman play at running back...could have been much worse.

Dang Old Green - I was there too - mental block - there...... it was a championship game - we just weren't the champs :p (not too bad for a team that was in a 3way tie for district and won a coin toss ;)

It was a cold December day in 1981 in Waco when I saw my first state championship game, Gilmer vs. Cameron Yoe at Floyd Casey stadium. Gilmer took a 3-0 lead early only to be shut down by the Yoemen the rest of the way. Cameron won the game 26-3.

I have watched games all the way through Semi's, but when it got to the state championship game, I never have been able to go except that once. Maybe I will get to go this year.

My first was Odessa Permian - 37 v. Baytown Sterling - 7 at Texas Memorial Stadium in 1972. Had two nephews playing for Odessa Permian.

Second was Burnet - 0 v. Groesbeck - 7 at Houston Astrodome in 1991. Had another nephew playing for Burnet.

Third was Cuero - 14 v. Abilene Wylie - 17 at Floyd Casey in Waco. Had a son who was a freshman that year.

I met a guy once who played for Forney in that game. Believe he was a LB. This was probably 2 years ago and he still cringed when I mentioned Blanton's fumble. I think he's still pissed about that.

Plano 21 Gregory-Portland 20-1971 in Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX. Long-time HS sportswriter for AAS George Breazale said it was the greatest HS game he ever saw.

I was at that game too. The La Grange player, a senior DT, who made the hit on Blanton causing the fumble was a real good kid. He was killed in Kosovo a few years back while serving his country. He and his family were very well liked in town and it was real tough on everybody.

My first state championship game was in 1978, Sealy – Wylie. Sealy won the game 42-20 behind their great back Eric Dickerson and team. Dickerson rushed for 292 yards that night, setting a state championship game record. That record stood until 1994 when Sealy defeated Atlanta 36-15. That night Sealy running back Fred Smith rushed for 324 yards, breaking Dickerson’s record. I was lucky enough to be on hand for that game as well. Smith’s record still stands and is tops in all classifications.
I’ve been very lucky as I have been at the right place at the right time when it comes to state championships. I saw all of Sealy’s football championship games, five in all. And saw them play for another in a losing cause. Saw Commerce defeat LaGrange. Had the good fortune to watch Weimar baseball win a couple of state championships, Bellville, Brazosport and La Grange win state baseball championships. And also saw Bellville and Brazos win volleyball championships.

1964 Palacios 12 vs. Marlin 0 in Austin

Palacios had a great little All-State Back; Bob Shelton
Marlin had an All-State back also.....can't recall his name

I was at the Sealy/Atlanta game as well. It was at the Astrodome right? I remember Denison played right before that in the 4A and almost every one of their fans had those containers filled with rocks or whatever. It was very loud. What ever happened to Fred Smith? Did he play college ball?

I think my first was Temple over Houston Memorial when they had Kenneth Davis in late 70s.

Also recall China Spring over Lexington in 78, I think. Whichever was first. Both games kind of boring.

Best ever state championship game I've seen:
Either Mexia over Vernon (22-21) in 89 or Lorena over Refugio (8-7) a year or two earlier. Both down to the wire and involved last-moment heroics.

Weirdest game I've seen:
Manor 3, Caldwell 2 (1975 or 76) but we kicked Austin Westlake's butt so who cares!!! :-)
