he still sacrificed himself for others and gave up his chance of possible recovery. Fortunately I haven't been ashamed of my country too often but this is one of those times.

Nothing to be ashamed of Phil. People die for their country in combat and not all of them deserve the CMH. I think there maybe more to this story than meets the eye. If he had not died he probabaly would not have recieved a nomination for the CMH. There is a page on the web, don't know the exact URL, where you can read CMH awards. You will come away with a whole new perspective on how and why a CMH is awarded. Now none of the above is said to take away from this Marines actions or bravery, he is a hero.
