Smack talk vs. Trash talk

Is there a difference??

I read some of these posts that are so obviously tongue in cheek....and then on the other hand I read where someone tries to come over as funny, but you can feel the border line animosity dripping from every word!!!

To me, there are some who just have knack for it and others who get too defensive! And then, you always have the one who THINKS they are funny, but all their posts just end up making them look silly!!

IMO...smack talk is all in fun, trash talk - not so much so!!!

IMO, smack without a cutting edge is just being mush mouthed. There needs to be a slight stinging sensation associated with it or it is just wasted keystrokes.

IMO, "smack" tends to be good-natured whereas "trash" talk isn't.

Trash talk is knocking down the other team's ability, fandom and tradition

I remember when we couldn't have "Scalp the Indians" etc. anymore because it promoted doing "physical harm" to someone.

Smack Talking is usually done for the fun of it among fans hoping to get a big rise out of the opponent's fans.

Trash Talking is the somewhat the same---except the author really believes what they are saying and that it does have an effect on the other guys. It usually occurs between players to summon some bravado, and most often with the opposite effect intended. Most high school coaches take a dim view of their players trash talking.

I got those in 2nd grade every week. The cheerleaders would sell them on the day of the game.
