A fantastic game. Denver scored with 24 seconds left and went for two points and got them.

I know of at least three close calls that went Denver's way in this game. Two of them were ridiculously wrong so expect some controversy from this game.

San Diego got ripped off!! Call on the field was an incomplete pass by Denver QB's Jake Cutler. He loses the ball and San Diego recovers. It was reviewed. Review proved it was a fumble, that he lost the ball before his hand came forward. The ref acknowledged it was a fumble and he inadvertently had whistled the ball dead THINKING it was an incomplete pass. He eventually said it was HIS fault. Then Denver gets the ball back and scores on the next play!!! Have to see what the NFL has to say!!!

Not alot the NFL can say..the call was right, and the reason for the Broncos keeping the ball was right as well..bad whistles happen alot

it is a shame that it had to be one of the best in the business, Ed

Ed made the right call. He had whistled the play dead before SD recovered it. It sucks he was premature with the whistle but that is the rule.

As Bum Phillips once said "Apologies don't get you into the playoffs."

"Ripped off" implies a deliberate act meant to deprive someone of something. Was there an error? Absolutely. Was SD harmed by the mistake? Absolutely. Did the NFL do what it could about the mistake at that moment in time? Absolutely. Was anyone "ripped off"? ABSOLUTELY NOT

I bet if we asked 100 fans on Saturday who they thought the best Referee in the NFL was, 95 would say Ed Hochuli. If one mistake changes your impression of him then you really do not know how to evaluate officials.

Nor does a defense that is that porous

If the refs can "wave off" a flag, why can't they "wave off" an inadvertant and errant whistle? The purpose of instant replay is to correct game changing mistakes.

Prolem with "waving off" a whistle is that once it sounds, players stop playing so who can say the ball would have ended up with SD had Denver kept playing?

Because a whistle stops a play in progress. A flag does not stop a play in progress (unless the whistle blows). since you can't review what should have or could have happend, the whistle can not be waved off. A flag can be reviewed by the crew after the play and the correct decision can be made. I seriously doubt that the NFL will change the rule. Ed just blew the call
