Yeah. But it's only because of how the finish was last year between Sweetwater and Clyde that game even got scheduled.

Let's keep this in perspective. Clyde is a solid football school.
Marlin a solid band school. There is a difference.

they really have 3 running backs that get the ball. Yeah he is one of the running backs and the defensive end. pay attention to the kid when you watch the game and you will be impressed. The offense looks a lot similar to last year, but then again idk, I have only been to one game. I am sure somebody could describe it a lot better then I can.

If you remember it wasn't the offenses that shined last year.

Coach Slaughter said "That was THE most physical game I
have ever been a part of". Both teams return alot of those
defensive players from last year. I can't wait until Friday.

Haha maybe I can help you out Lakers. After leaving the team last year, and looking back on who was moving up to fill in all of the skill positions-I thought Clyde was in for a rough season. Then I heard their pre-season rank (which pre-season ranks usually aren't the best thing to obide by)I thought okay maybe Clyde will do alright this season.. But after watching their past three games (early being the most impressive) and averaging over 33 points a game said alot for me. Eventhough hirschi isn't a very great team, it was the first of the season, and half the starters enjoyed watching the rest of the team play from the sidelines after half. Graham... well they have lost alot, but the way clyde was playing (once again with majority of starters out by half) easily could have put up near 50+. The last game against early really proved clyde to be a more than solid team-- they were down quick by 12-0 . then came into half still down 12-7. Not knowing what was being said by coach slaughter, but I'm sure like always he did something crazy to pump the boys up--the bulldogs came out and just tore the game open. Run game led by Colby Smith--passing game led by a posed quarterback in jacob gonzales. WR core is pretty stacked with PJ Martinez, Kyle Lewis, not to mention my boy Jeremy Gordon. I think Clyde has earned their respect by ending a ten year drought of making the playoffs the last two years. Now it's alot more than just making playoffs, its winning as many trophies as possible as going into Dec. and I believe Clyde is more than capable of doing just that.

Okay now after ALL of that being said, Clyde needs to take advantage early.. starting with their Hard-Hitting Defense, Led by Linebacker T. Parker and D-End Colby Smith. With that in mind Clyde is going to have to move the ball better than we did last year against Sweetwaters D or it will be a re-run of '07 (a shoot-out depending on both Defenses).

It was kinda sad though. Sweetwater had about 30 players on

WARNING: IF YOU DO NOT LIKE FLUFF DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER

Clyde still tough foe for S’water in 2A

Written by Ron Howell

Thursday, 18 September 2008

Try as he might, Sweetwater head coach Kent Jackson can't seem to find a breather any-where on the Mustangs' 2008 football schedule.
Last Friday's game at Monahans seemed to be heading that way for the first two quarters as Sweetwater led 17-0. The Lobos came roaring back, however, dominating the second half and almost forcing overtime. Sweetwater couldn't relax until a missed field goal in the final minute preserved a 17-14 win.
Sweetwater now welcomes Clyde to town, and Jackson knows how tough it will be to get past the Bulldogs even though it's Sweetwater's homecoming and a large crowd is sure to be on hand Friday for the 7:30 p.m. contest.
Sweetwater traveled to Clyde last year when the teams were district rivals, and the Bulldogs pulled out a 15-8 victory on a late touchdown after recovering a fumble, giving Clyde its first-ever victory over the Mustangs.
Now a Class 2A school, Clyde is off to a 3-0 start after rallying to defeat a good Early squad this past week, 28-18, on Early's field. The Bulldogs overcame a 12-0 deficit by scoring 28 straight points against the Longhorns, who fell to 1-2.
Sweetwater won't have to worry about Clyde's star running back Curtis Kevil, who scored both touchdowns a year ago including the game-winner and has since graduated. But Clyde still has plenty of talent which has helped produce three impressive wins, starting with a 35-7 win over Wichita Falls Hirschi in its opener. The Bulldogs also won big (33-14) against Graham, which is in Sweetwater's district this year.
Quarterback Jacob Gonzales rushed for 55 yards and threw for 123 more against Early, including a 53-yard pass to PJ Martinez that began Clyde's rally. Colby Smith also ran for two scores against Early.
Jackson said he is encouraged by his team's progress after three games, even though Sweetwater still has yet to put two good halves together. Last week, a blocked punt and two lost fumbles contributed to Monahans' big comeback.
"I thought that overall we did things well," Jackson said. "We're still having to fix things, but not the same things."
Actully, Sweetwater has put together four good quarters in a row — the second half of the team's game against Seminole, when the Mustangs overcame a 14-10 deficit to win 29-22, and the first half against Monahans. "We've played well for a half, but we're encouraging them to put two good halves together in the same game," Jackson said.
Also in the game with Monahans, Sweetwater got its first passing TD of the season when quarterback Zach Bird-well threw a 12-yard strike to Zach Wetsel, who ran in un-touched to put Sweetwater up 7-0. The running game was led by Daniel Jackson, who ran for 149 yards including a 94-yarder for a touchdown.
Playing at home the next two weeks should be helpful, said coach Jackson, whose team is trying to build some momentum heading into the district opener, which is Oct. 10 against Breckenridge. After this week, Big Spring comes to town followed by an open date Oct. 3.
"It's nice to have these next two at home," Jackson said.
"Friday night will be special because the exes will be back, but I'm sure that Clyde will bring a good crowd, so we'll need a big crowd too.
“We can't play these guys and not be better,” he concluded. We've got to work hard these next two weeks and get ready for district."

Sweetwater controlled the clock Friday against Clyde in its homecoming game, running 77 plays on offense en route to a 24-6 victory.

Four turnovers hurt the Clyde Bulldogs, and their defense wasn't able to contain the Mustangs, who had 358 rushing yards.

Sweetwater, 3-1, was able to force Clyde to use its timeouts early and caught the Bulldogs off guard with its constantly changing offense.

The Mustangs (3-1) go on to face Big Spring next week, while Clyde (3-1) will play Vernon next week in their last home game before district play.

Wylie has really surprised me this year and we're not even at district right now. some of the younger players seem to be maturing pretty fast and i believe they are defiantly a top team in the state right now.

as for last night, that interception before half that lead to the fg was huge, especially after the blocked extra point. i dont know if i was the only one to notice it, but lavega really seemed out of the game mentally around mid 3rd quarter. wylie ate up the clock with that long drive to put them up 22-14. Towards the end of the game, the finish almost felt like 2 weeks ago with liberty hill, just reverse roll for wylie. lavega makes the late drive to score then miss the 2 point conversion, didnt get the hop they wanted off the onside.

Fun game to watch(not nearly as fun as lh bwood sounded) but plenty of big hits, dline penetration and the big plays to make a game exciting.

nice talking to you and nobogey as well.

:iagree:

If I do not go see the Wylie game this coming week, I might go catch the Stang game! Maybe do some scouting!;)
