is it on radio?

also, figured this would be better than mixing updates with the 22-page pre-game chest-puff thread

(from the other thread)

MY TAKE ON THIS GAME

i have dabbled in the smoaky boards, and it is interesting, but none of this really matters in the long run

Celina is not currently as good as they were last year, but they are further along than i thought they would be given that the bobcats only returned 12 lettermen

Celina has all the respect in the world for Daingerfield--anyone that has been a fan for more than five years remembers the last time these two teams met.

However, the situation is much different now. Daingerfield has shrunk in size, and Celina has grown. The two teams we fielded were played a bad hand--they were dealing with our youngest and weakest teams in the last 12 years and they had just moved up to 3A. Not that they would've won the 2A title those years, but moving up didn't help. (any longtime observer could confirm this)

You could see the difference two years made. Celina rebounded and was much better prepared to make the jump the second time around, and had one of the most successful seasons ever by a team moving up in classification (just because they lost in the title game doesn't diminish the accomplishment)

And of course, they made up for it the next year

So now, Celina has hit a little bit of a rebuilding stretch once again--but it won't make as much of a difference this time

why? why is it different this year than in 2002-2003, five years ago?

the difference is celina is REALLY starting to grow, and it will only accelerate as the next 5 or 6 years go by

maybe it is not as noticeable yet, but the bobcats are a little better in depth now, and that is why i think they have started a little bit ahead so far

another thing to keep in mind is that numbers really do count for something. If you took two celina teams with similar makeups and then had one pull from 349 students (our numbers in 02-03, when we were the smallest school in 3A) and now when we are approaching the 500 mark-there is a difference. It is hard to compare numbers with other schools, since you can have horrid 5A schools and awesome 2A schools like Tatum or 99 Mart, but self-introspection can show differences

so after all that BS, i can say this:

Celina will be fired up for this game--i think the motivation factor is on their side. They are a top 6-7 3A team facing a top 25 2A team.

The Bobcats are the favorites, and if the offensive line continues to develop, the skill position players can take care of the rest. In that case, i believe the bobcats will best Daingerfield's magical "33 points given up" mark on defense in the last however many years.

Celina 38, Daingerfield 14

I came here to own that DF pretty much worked us over completely tonight. Our boys gave their all and we left without the W. DF was an exceptional team who did what they said they would do and I for one respect them.

For anyone who tries to makes excuses for us....just don't. Tonight Dangerfield was the better team. That's twice.

Coach Bear Bryant said:

"It's awfully important to win with humility. It's also important to lose. I hate to lose worse than anyone, but if you never lose you won't know how to act. If you lose with humility, then you can come back."

"Losing doesn't make me want to quit. It makes me want to fight that much harder."

I plan to pass his words on to my son, who I am sure is brokenhearted and mad, when he gets home.

Celina, let's lose with humility.

AS FOR ALL MY OTHER POSTS...I STAND BEHIND THEM FIRMLY. I still think Coach Ford and Elliott created the game and that I'm lucky my kid plays under 'em, and that Celina rocks it all, even right now:) GREAT JOB DANGERFIELD!!!!

It is only really disappointing when it counts and ends your season. ;)

I think this game really helps the Bobcats. There was a lot learnt in this game. Celina has nothing to hang their heads about. Daingerfield got off early and then was just able to hang on.

I also think Celina's coaches will look at the tape and kick themselves.

And ... the kids will be carrying around a lot of footballs this week! :D

:D :D :D :D

First, props to Dfield, they made a long trip to our field and handed it to us in the first half, then fought us off in the second half. It was a hard hitting clean game and they have a very good team. As for us, we have some work to do to get back to the level we have been the last 3 years.

Now, as to this "classless" remark. Buff, I wonder if you have ever actually been to Celina or even a game in Celina? So many like to take shots at us based on a few people that post on a message board. Well, for your benefit, here are a few messages from some Dfield fans who HAVE ACTUALLY MET some Celina fans:

Wow, what a game... MN95 said it right, we had the opportunity to blow this game wide open in the 2nd quarter. I am very proud of our football team. I don't really feel like discussing the game tonight, but I will in the morning sometime. But, I do want to say that the fans from Celina are some of the nicest I have ever met. They were all very friendly and welcomed us to their house. Celina has a awesome team. As far as those polls go, who cares... We had several kids that got banged up tonight, I hope nothing too serious...

I will finish with... What a game.... I wish you all could have witnessed it!

Another one:

Celina u all are truly a class act, i loved the way we were welcomed, even at half time u all were top of the line, i love the way yall stadium still have that knock out drag out feel, ole school football style, not many schools let the fans mingle together like that, most seperate them, i miss those days in daingerfield when we could go to the other side and they can come over, they had no police saying move it move it, have a seat, they had fans with lawn seats out enjoying the game, man i love the way u all love your football, keep being the classiest group out there, yes i said it CLASSIET i have seen including us as a group,

Yet another:

Much, much respect to celina and their fans. I knew without a doubt that we were gonna be in for the fight of our life in the second half. Those Celina boys just punish you and I would go to war with them any day. The fans were super nice, talked to several after the game and it was obvious that the respect was mutual. I think I lost about 5 years off my life in that second half, it just seemed like we were doing everything in our power to give it away. But the D stepped up when they had to and made it stick. All the support on here for us tonight is overwhelming and I know that I can speak for all the Tiger Nation when I say thank you very much. It felt like a state title game tonight. I'm hoarse, sore and just plain relieved.

To the Tigers, way to represent. I can't tell you how proud we all are of you tonight, the way you carried yourself and the way you never gave up. You took down a giant tonight against every odd imaginable. Way to sac it up and show the state that WE'RE BACK. Still got a long season to go, one game at a time, nothing is a given, you've got a HUGE bullseye on you now, and there is still plenty to work on. It's a been fun this week jawing it up with everyone, remember, it's all in fun. We have much respect for you guys, no matter how obnoxious we may sound on here. We're the nation and we love our boys.

Once again, big, big props to Celina, you guys are gonna be just fine.

One more:

^ I totally agree with everything DEXT just said... Celina, class act, you couldn't pump anymore heart into those kids, they've got too much already.. I couldn't be more proud of our boys, they perserveered against tremendous odds, and that Defense, boy they showed up tonight.. Celina dominated in T.O.P. and we still stood in there and played ALL OUT !!

I went to the game last night and the Dangerfield/Celina fans and players were nothing but a class act. The Dangerfield and Celina fans had a 22 page smack talk thread going on Smoak, but as Friday rolled around each teams fans wished each other a safe game and safe travel. During the game which each team played their hearts out in, there was good sportsmanship shown by both teams as they helped each other up after plays all night. I saw several times when player on the opposite team slapped the other player on the helmet, as to tell them good job. Some of the Celina and D'field fans meet before the game and got to put a face with the screen name and everyone I meet was friendly and showed nothing but class. Great game, what a great high school atmospere, I could only wish that our fans would support our team like Celina supports theirs, I could do without that horn though, lol. Congratulation to Dangerfield on a hard fought win and kudos to Celina for hosting such a great event.

Daingerfield did a great job.

Is it too soon for analysis and opinion? Oh well ... too bad. ;)

I really liked Daingerfield's offensive scheme. The play calling at the line of scrimmage is always a favorite of mine. The Koko Smith kid is really a gem. He knew how to lay a lick and take a lick. The Tiger offense worked very well against Celina's overly agressive defense. It had a bit of trouble in the second half once the Celina defense adjusted. I don't see that being a problem for the Tigers though. Outside of Liberty Hill in 2006, I have not seen a defense as good as Celina's. So, I do not see why the Tigers will not roll this season. The Tiger's passing game comes back together against most other defenses.

Daingerfields's defense really made things tough for Celina's offense. The Tigers caused more turnovers than I have ever seen Celina give up. But I am going to be blunt here. This is not the best offensive line Celina has had (which does not mean bad, just needs some work). The line is a bit undersized and needed to play a team with a good bunch of athletes to help them get their heads on straight. Daingerfield did Celina a big favor by exploting this now. By saying "now", I mean before the real season begins.

I see no reason why Daingerfield should not roll through 2A. Heck they could make a run through 3A for that matter, but the grind with the bigger schools might wear them down. There were a lot of Tigers laying around the field which would concern me going into the Gilmer game. But, they dusted it off and got back in the game in a few plays. I do not think any Tigers are injured, but those dings over several games can really add up.

Celina's defense is fine. They were a little slow in adjusting, but too bad so sad. That happens against a good team like Daingerfield.

Celina's offense needs to figure a few things out. Can the O-line issues get worked out? If it can, I think this solves the turn over problem. And ... solves the passing game issues. Cody never really had much time to find his receivers. Credit goes to Daingerfield D, but I am not sure if the Celina O-line was locating their blocks. IMO blocks do not always need to be overwhelming, but they can't be missed. I saw what I thought were a lot of Tiger defenders coming clean into Celina's backfield.

So what now?

Daingerfield: The Tigers need to get to district play without too many permanently wounded. The game after next might really cripple the Tigers. Especially if the offense does not get them out early as they did against Celina. I see no reason why Daingerfield shouldn't crush Commerce.

Celina: The Bobcats have what looks like a tough homecoming game. Fort Worth Arlington Heights has won their first three games and if Celina's offense does not score early and often, the Bobcats could be 2-2 traveling to Whitehouse the next week. To a Whitehouse team that got a win this week.

That is just my opinion and observations. Sometimes best to keep to yourself, but where is the fun in that? :D

Yes, the atmosphere at the game in the second half was electric. The first half was mostly shock on the Celina side though.

Regarding the "classless" statement by Buff. I will give him the benefit of the doubt based on your intrepetation. You are giving me way too much intellectual credit, though, if you think I can do anything but respond to what is written, and instead try to understand what was really meant. Hey, I hope this gives the rest of 3A false hope. I do not think Celina is finished.

Last time I checked, Celina still gets to play another game.

I will only be sad when Celina's season is ended by a loss. ;)

It will be especially cool to see how the players respond this week.

thank you ranger mom for this, it will make my somewhat apology a lot easier for some of these people to accept. I AM SORRY, I respect celinas program, school, kids, town and etc.; I actually think that most of the people that have jumped on me for my message have never acted classless on this board. However, there are some of the celina posters who are as possibly the most annoying to read like some others around the board. They should be number one, they can beat anyone even after losing to them. It really gets old. Then when celina loses they get on here and play down the upset and act as though dangerfield has wrapped up the 2a state championship. Which granted could happen, but that doesn't mean it isn't an upset for them to beat a suppose to be #1 team in 3a that was actually a #2 or 3 team in my book, but no longer, I say Celina drops to #12 for a loss like this.

Once again, no hard feelings towards those who have always acted with class win or lose, my unnecessary harsh words were not for you. Heck Giddings gets our share of shots when we lose lately from around the area as well. Those teams like caldwell and LG who can't find a way to beat us, sit around on this board waiting for us to lose. HA:D

I am going to disagree that Celina's QB is a definite problem. I like the way he plays. But ... he certainly is much different than Seth.

Keep the defense out of the back field and the lack of a passing game goes away.

We only have one player that goes both ways (that starts) and that is our big anchor on defense.

depth wasnt a factor tonight, we had several injuries due to crushing blows from bobcats but TIGERS withstood

Sep 8 2008, 10:03 PM
if a team scores an average of one score per quarter on our defense, i would have to say it would surprise me, i read all these people messages saying the TIGERS might get lucky, Celina just might be the lucky ones if our team dont come to play, but i dont see the TIGERS coming in here slacking, we are ready for showtime i just hope our opponets are, dont be surprised to be held to two touchdowns and and a field goal,

they didnt average one score per quarter, (not surprised), we gave up the 3 scores i just got one wrong, but its still only 3 scores not one per quarter

bigorange u all were bigger on the o line and d line the last time we met and what did that mean, the weight of a man dont mean jack when u have a FURRosious TIGER after u, and all this talk about depth, we might be deeper than Celina after looking at the rosters, Bowman had two guys starting both ways and Julius havent played tail back since his injury in two a days, so we should have.

size meant nothing, #76 got a little tired but finished the game strong with 3 consective possesions, defense, offense, defense[/size]

Sep 8 2008, 11:55 PM
i hate bigorange was suspended, the only people who can settle this will be the boys on the field saturday night, i have faith that daingerfield will settle this in my favor, but im sure u feel the same way, we know fans will back their teams, thats what makes fans fans, who on celina do u feel is the key to their success against the TIGERS on both sides of the ball, the teams have tape on each other so its ok to truly talk football, i think if Big Pooh #76 keep the guards and center off our linebackers like he have the last two years we have a great shot at winning, if not it can be a long night for us, and if our qb get his passes down a little, you all will have trouble running with our receivers.

he let Carl #9 lb play free all night which he made a key stop in the back field in the 4th when he ran right behind the big guy

Sep 9 2008, 12:36 AM
he is about 255, but he plays both ways, he's ur best o lineman too,(the players say, not me)so his fatigue could be a problem, he has a quality back up though, but i truly feel as he goes our defense goes, and when he's on offense we move the ball a lot better, what worries me is yall lbeing bigger up front leaning on us all game and tiring us out in a close 4th quarter, thats the real deal, but i think we are the type of team that breaks teams spirit, but i feel if Pooh keeps our hard hitting Linebackers free a little we can make some noise, sounds to me whoever get out early and establish their game plan had the advantage.

we started out fast and early and it helped us prevail

We are a day away from the Texas Biggest Upset 2008 debut, the boys from Daingerfield are ready for a hard hitting, bunch of sweating, must execute, and grind it out contest to shock the state of Texas, let the enemy know that an A- performance just wont be good enough in this contest.

The Biggest Upset 2008 debuted tonight and it was just THAT, and yes we shocked TEXAS, we all know Celina played a good game but it did take an A+ GAME TO BEAT US TONIGHT, The BIGGEST UPSET 2008

Sep 11 2008, 09:41 PM
our team will play the game with class but we are a mean bunch but mean with class, not very friendly after the whistle begins the game but will be again after the whistle ends the game, boy i can see Big Pooh, Julius, Carl, and Josh having a monster of a game, its time TIGERS.......LETS GO PUT ON.

we played with a lot of courage and class, Pooh#76, Julius#13,Carl#9, Josh#34 had a MONSTER game and played a very instrumental role on that defense tonight, and of couse They Put On For Our City!!!!

Just stop acting like this was a surprise, the surprise was that none of u actuall knew anything about this TIGER team other than they wiont give up, we are younger than Celina , so stop all the rebuilding and have to learn talk, coaches werent at fault, our coach gave Celina a chance, nevr ran the ball but once per drive on 3 different drives, called a pass play when we up 14 with <7min left in game, Celina offense moved the ball down the field for a score only once, i have stated the above statements all wek , and all were true, this year Celina cant play with Daingerfield simple, give what excuse or reason u want, the kids played a hard hitting game as i stated on 9/11/08, but i warned every one that THE BIGGEST UPSET 2008 was debuting Friday in Celina

Another lil tidbit about that game that people are forgetting..

Daingerfield had nothing to lose when we showed up at the Big Dog's doorstep.. #2 in 3A - Defending state champs hosting an unranked 2A opponent that bowed out in the 2nd round in 07 and lost 3 of its biggest offensive weapons of a year ago.. Everyone says they give us this game, but the mistake they made was not GIVING us any respect coming in..

They never saw us coming..Celina was tight at the beginning of the game and obviously had an awakening sometime between the 2nd and 3rd quarter..

You just never know what you're gonna get outta 15-18 year old young men, hell I was surprised myself.. D'field got the football first marched down and scored.. Just like that its 7-0 against one of only 5 teams to beat you in the last 10 years..
Don't think that didn't creep in sometime, they were shook up, 3 penalties the next drive, turnovers, we had them on their heals.. Speed will do that to ya, and we had em shook !!
D'field's 2nd drive ended in a fumble, 3rd drive in an INT.. Celina had plenty of chances to get back in the game in the 1st half, but we had taken them outta them comfort zone and they couldn't respond..

If it weren't for halftime Celina may have been beaten by 30.. But with a staff like that, you knew those Cats weren't gonna turn in 4 bad periods.. But they see the Tigers now and I expect another Doozy of a contest in TRASHY OLE East TX next year..

On the class subject, every town has its rotten apples, even we idgets in East TX know that.. We wouldn't ever judge an entire community on a couple children's idiotic statements.. Celina has class, they've shown it this entire week..

You guys have a solid team, I imagine you'll do fine and we'll be reading about you deep into December.. Good Luck Bobcats, enjoyed the game, the experience win or lose was worth the 3hr. drive !!

Hey SLIKK, I don't care what all those other posters say about you on that other site. You're alright!

I would have to agree with you on most of your points. However, I am not sure if respect was lacking. It may have been more like disbelief. The speed that the Tigers had was shocking. Even in 3A, you will get a team with a few speedsters. But DF had a good mix of both size and speed.

It could have been the Bobcats were shocked when DF just didn't roll over and kept bringing it. Like you said, "we had them on their heels."

Well, my advice is enjoy this team this year. I think your Tigers have a good shot at collecting a win from their last game of the season. Daingerfield is the real deal with good coaching.

Then, take comfort in the fact that you have a strong foundation going into next season. But ... next season will not even interest you now, if this year's team lives up to their potential.

They're Grrrreeaatt!!! :D

Good bunch lots of fun to watch. I will tell you now that I enjoy a good football game a lot more than a donkey stomp and that was a fun game to watch in the second half specially. Good luck D'field. Play well keep your heads on straight. See if a state title might be in your future.

Oh we're very focused on this season, I was just making conversation.. All the talk has been about what Celina needs to work on and what they need to fix.. We too have plenty to work on ourselves..

We missed a couple easy throw and catches, the secondary let some Celina kids get behind em.. We cannot afford these mistakes and expect to play with teams like Gilmer down the road.. We turn the ball over 5 times against them and we lose by 42..

It hasn't been said here, but I want you to know that wasn't D'fields best football either.. We got some work to do before we get too far ahead !! Getting out of East TX is the toughest part, there are some great Football teams out here.. 3A & 2A

It hasn't been said here, but I want you to know that wasn't D'fields best football either.. We got some work to do before we get too far ahead !! Getting out of East TX is the toughest part, there are some great Football teams out here.. 3A & 2A
You are right about that. Daingerfield does have to consider and work on some things.

But the encouraging thing ought to be that ... the Tigers beat a really good football team ... and that should give them a lot of confidence as they move through the season.

I hope Daingerfield does not get too dinged up going into the real season with its game against Gilmer.

One thing is for certain, the Tigers are not an unknown quantity anymore. The Tigers will need a passing game against Gilmer.
