Saw Daingerfield end the streak at 69 several years ago when Celina made the gutsiest play I had ever seen in HS to bring the game within one point and then they missed the kick. It was a defining moment in HS football history, and I was about 80 feet away standing on the track just watching.

P.S. As for the gutsy call.

Celina was on about the six yard line with no time outs and what do they do?

They hand off to the fullback and he takes it right up the middle for the score.

The question is not how good Daingerfield is now, but how good Celina is.

It won't be close.

Only two or three teams in the State in 3a can hang even a little bit close with Celina.

Sharrock was the LHB, not FB, but it was a cool play. Celina had completely taken over the momentum and few doubt that Celina would have owned them in OT. I was on the sideline standing even with goal line and could not believe when the refs signaled no good on the PAT. Talk about a roller coaster of emotions.

And Daingerfield thinks that they have the best team that they have had in years (they are talking about running the table despite playing Celina and Gilmer) so it could be competitive at least.

Was it Williams Field in Garland where the original game was played?

Anyway, it would have been cool to play this game there too! :)

I was at that game and yes it was a downer to see the no good PAT call. DF had a heck of a team that year only to go on and get beat by Midland Greenwood.

I would say DF has a pretty good team this year. Word is the defense is pretty good and offense has yet to gel, but coming along. But, I get this info from reading a bunch of trash on another site I'm not gonna mention. I think we win the game by 2 TD's and hopefully the curse of the missed PAT wont bite us again.

I plan on being there so hope to see some of you. M&G anyone?

Of course, I will be there.

Weather permitting, my plan is to show up about lunchtime and start getting the tailgate ready. I will have the TV set up for the UT/Arky game, and I think the menu will be smoked hog (shoulder, hams, and rib meat) with brisket as well.

The UT game should finish about 6, which is perfect timing to get in and catch pregame. Look for the travel trailer and stop by. However, don't come empty-handed.

I was on the sidelines when the streak ended. That play PPHS was talking about was just pure heart by sharrock. He took the linebacker head-on and dominated him. There wasn't a linebacker in the state that could've stopped him on that play though. Anyways, I'm coming into town for a wedding and I get to go to the game, can't wait!

To all celina fans all the dainegerfield people are acting there going to beat us down. They say we will be lucky to score 14pts on them.Has anyone talked to the celina coaches about this game? Are they that good?

As always, Me and mine will make role call. The boy says that he hears they are fast and good, with a lot of talent and a lot speed. The lineman are 290 on the heavy end, 240 thinned out. See you all there. I'd do a meet and greet if ya'll wanted:)

If it rains you can go to the top and sit under the pressbox and stay dry. We in RC hope you enjoy our new stadium.

I have not talked to the coaches. However, I certainly expect that Dangerfield will prove to be a formidable opponent. You can bet their offense will showcase their speed at the skill positions.

I believe we should score more than 14 against their defense. We scored 28 against a very stout TCA defense and I'm not convinced that the Dangerfield defense is on their level. We'll find out for sure on Saturday.

I have not spoken to the coaches but everything I hear is they have a lot of speed, talent and size. Never underestimate the worthy and Dangerfield is certainly worthy and I don't think any of our coaches or players are betting on an easy win. We'll fight for this one just like the last one. As far as smack talk goes, who knows how many points we will or wont score. That's in the hands of far better athletes and coaches than the likes of us bloggers. I wish both the teams safety and luck but I do hope Celina wins and wins BIG! Go BOBCATS!!!!!

The Daingerfield Offense will have to produce more then 34-29 points against a quality of opponent that has given up 7 points and is a 34 point favorite with a top 5 3A ranking......in Celina

The tigers scored 34 against a really bad 3A opponent in #140 ranked Atlanta Rabbbits....I think this shows they need more O to handle the Orange ones from the east........Can they find the O they need to win Friday...I say no...

Prediction.......

Celina 47
Daingerfield 13

I will be at the game also. Couldn't agree more with this post. I expect a tough game, as does my son. Our coaches do a great job each week of convincing the boys they can lose to any team if they don't come to play.

I'm a little worried about not having Charley play. The other factor no one has mentioned yet is the weather. Could be a wet game.

Don't get me wrong, I do think Celina will win, but I don't think the game will be decided until sometime in the third quarter, when depth and conditioning become a factor. I think the first half will be competitive unless there's turnovers. Daingerfield will be very good in 2A. With a few breaks, I think the Tigers will keep this one relatively close.

DF coming to the little town of the Orange....long bus ride both ways for the DF boys this week...

sit Charley - save him for the games that matter, and use the depth at RB and a stout defense to handle the game....not as big a crowd as it could have been on a Sat night in the RC but the orange will be out in force....

me and the JV boy will have to stay and watch this one I suppose before we head to the land of Pirates and Raiders to the West to be on TV.....

I saw Vernon and Dangerfield scrimmage. Dangerfield went all out to win the scrimmage but couldn't do it. Vernon is real young and inexperienced and gave the Tigers all they wanted. Vernon might not make the playoffs this year. My prediction between Celina and Dangerfield for what it's worth!! Not even close, Celina by alot.

Like I said, Celina will not underestimate the worthy and DF is a worthy opponent and our boys are working toward readiness every morning and afternoon. In football, it's any given Friday night, and the night that's given is this Friday. Let me say again, we thank DF for the travel time and the sure to be excellent game. May sportsmanship and character show through as our boys bring their best to the field, to meet with DF's best.

My son said the coaches have told them that DF is quick, quick, quick with talent and size on the O-Line. I think what I like best about Ford/Elliott is that they never present an upcoming game as some easy task. Every opponent is viewed as worthy, as every opponent has quality, and DF is no exception. However, my son wasn't thrilled with the derogatory manner in which posters were calling Celina out on smoaky. It was/is very in your face. He is a respectful kid with an active set of parents, so he also understands that smack and trash come in all forms but it has been noted:) I'm sure the coaches are aware but aren't concerned. They have bigger fish to fry and fry them they will....WE BOBCATS HOPE!!!!!:) Anyway, it's only 46 hours away now. I have tickets IN HAND and we're ready to GO!!!

I think you let a little good time funnin' get under your skin, it's just a message board. Every site has it's knuckleheads, but in general I think you have D'fields respect as a outstanding program. Good luck to both teams and I hope the game lives up to the hype. We have a bye this week and are trying to decide which game to attend Celina/D'field, Longview/Evangel or Gilmer Liberty Eylau......three goodin's.

We have a bye this week and are trying to decide which game to attend Celina/D'field, Longview/Evangel or Gilmer Liberty Eylau......three goodin's.
My suggestion is that the Daingerfield folks don't speed comin' into town. I doubt there will be any warnings being issued by orange machine. ;)

Most of their tractors run less than 25 MPH and pretty sure they all carry a box of Krispy Kreams with em' just in case. :D
I'm trying real hard to convience my son and his friends to attend this game but they are leaning towards the Gilmer/LE game.

I'm from Gilmer and they hate the Buckeyes even more! Just ask them! They respect us, but hate us nonetheless. They're just like the rest of us, backing their team, so, yes, they do think they can win this one. Realistically, they would have to play WAAAAYY over their heads to pull the upset in this one. Just my opinion, though!:D

No doubt! I was enjoying this thread until it turned into a he said she said contest.

Who takes what anybody says on this or any other board seriously? Game will be decided on the field between the teams. Unless we get an adult flag football game together on the practice field during the game. Fred...you wanna play QB?

I have observed over several months that LHPM just sits back and WAITS for an opportunity to post against Celina and their fans. Especially when she gets to remind us that they won the last game. Now, she is very subtle about it, the master of the smileys with their eye rolls or scrunched up forehead. Kind of like Jan Brady hoping big sister Marcia, who usually gets all of the attention (Marcia!Marcia!Marcia!), gets torn down a little, or as Robert Barone revels in Raymond's misfortune.....

Looks like I'm going to be the first Daingerfield Tiger who will defend us on here. First let me say it is a shame that Daingerfield is not even in 3A anymore. I graduated there in 1989 and no one during that era wanted any part of Daingerfield. Now I know I will be used an abused for saying this but I have not been a Tiger fan for the last few years. They didn't play with the Tiger Pride that was embedded into us in the past. I called it Hoodlum Pride in a post on another forum. I am coming on this forum to defend something that I strongly believe in. I know this sounds like a homer but my family now goes to and supports Paul Pewitt just down the road from Daingerfield. Pewitt played Daingerfield last weekend and took a good beating from them. It was the first time that I was proud of a Daingerfield team since they played Celina in 02. I do not believe in poor sportsmanship that has been displayed in the past few years and refused to promote them. Now that leads us into the present. What I saw last Friday night was the best football being played since I watched Pewitt play Celina. It was the best team ball since I saw Celina in the state game. The defense is described as best a swarm and the offense is very potent with multiple threats like the Daingerfield of old. They are not like Pewitt was when we played you guys back then. They run and pass with the best of them. I know you have heard about their sophmore QB and figure he isn't anything to be concerned with. But I tell you he is the first QB to be groomed since the inception of the spread there and I think the best by far already with just 2 games under his belt. I really felt that he would have started last year at QB if they didn't have an allstate player already at the position. He has tremendous touch with the ability to throw the deep routes. I say all this not to toot Daingerfield's horn but to show my respect that they have gained back. I really expected Pewitt to beat them and it wasn't a contest. Pewitt has a good team but I was shocked at how good Daingerfield was especially after losing 2 amazing athletes out of their backfield. Well I guess to sum it up. Don't let a few young ones who think it is fun to trash talk ruin your thoughts about a good sportsmanship team. I hate that the game was moved from Saturday since I'll be in Jefferson watching Pewitt on Friday. May the best team win and win or lose do it with dignity.

Honestly IMO it is a side effect of having dueling forums. LOL.

I have to read what is said on the East Texas forum to see what they are saying and then responses are generally happening here because orange machine got in trouble over there and lost his account. MN95 and gatordaze have accounts on both and have been most respectable representatives from Celina. I would love to annoy the Daingerfield folks, but I don't want to go thru the whole registration hassle for just one game.

What I appreciate about GoBigBlue is that he took the time to register here and let us know what he thinks.

However, there was a moment that I thought (when I saw his registration name) we had just encountered a Biggie sized GoBlue!

Let me say this, I think a big part of the problem with the he-said-he said stuff is that that there were three threads, with three differing topics of conversation, started and then merged and that changed the track of the original thread, without notice or explanation. Thus, some of the responses seem...ill placed, and ill prepared, when in fact, for the threads they were originally on, they made all the sense they could.

I would not have known this, except I have been ill and thus lurking and reading a little too much, even in my opinion, and was actually posting twice when the threads were merged.

I understand the want to combine for space, BUT it does create the chasm of questions about where these responses originated from. FYI, one of the combined threads, was specifically directed at the derogatory remarks from another site, being said by DF fans about Celina. Thus, why 3ADL WATERBOY was supposing I was speaking about him and not another poster from another site.

I have been lurking and occassionally posting on this board for a long time, and I feel it is time to defend my brethren from Daingerfield and Smoaky. I grew up in Daingerfield... played from 83-85.... and it is a unique town. They eat, sleep, and drink Daingerfield Tiger football. They are a supremely confident bunch.

With that being said, I think the people on here have gotten their feathers ruffled over nothing. The Daingerfield regulars on smoaky are well known to be the ultimate trash talkers, and they love living up to their reputation. 99% of what they are saying is just said in FUN. And the more under your skin they can get the more trash they talk. They all believe that they have a chance to beat Celina..... but come on guys, to think that they think they will destroy you is playing up to them. Plus they all admit they are just having fun!

I have seen a lot of Great teams and alot of great programs in Texas and take my hat off to Celina. The sustained Greatness is unparalled in this state. (Trust me it hurts to say that, right Coachkiss!)

Anyway, good luck to both teams Friday wish I could be there to watch it.

IMO the Daingerfield folks did not execute a very good smack talk game plan.

Poor execution and coaching caused them to run outta gas in the first half. Just like the Tigers will tonight! :D

I can talk "smack" with anyone. There is no real talent to it. Just make outrageous claims that can't be supported or refuted until after the game. I just CHOOSE not to. It's more fun to poke fun at the outrageous claims.

No. I don't think you understand. Last year was last year and the Buckeyes didn't even show up for that state game. Liberty Hill would've drilled Celina last year, too. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, this year Gilmer would beat Celina. I don't have much doubt about that. It would be a VERY good game, though. That's a long way away anyway, and both teams have alot of teams to beat in the meantime.

Question: How do the semi-finals stack up? I mean which regions match up, i.e. R-1 vs. R-4, R-2 vs. R-3, etc.? Can anybody tell me?

Speaking of outrageous claims.......did you actually see the 2006 LH vs Celina game? And if your Buckeyes are the type of team that wouldn't "show up" for a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, how can you have any faith in them at all. And, if you have any faith in a team that wouldn't show up, how can we give your posts any credibility?

It's a rhetorical question, no need to answer, it won't help.

that has to be one of the all-time greatest copout excuses ever....they just did not show up for a state title game...wow, can ANY team be more pathetic than that?

scoring 50-60-70 a game or 800 a year or whatever has NO meaning if you choke in the final game....

Celina has lost ONE finals game in history...while we lost to a good team in a good game (we chose not to choke and stink the place up) it was still not fun to drive home after the loss...

but I suppose 8 good drives home are not so bad (I only saw 7 of em to be honest)

Yeah, I see your point. That wasn't the right thing to say. Shame on me! They just weren't prepared for what Liberty Hill brought to the table is what I meant. They were simply a better team, and I still say Liberty Hill would have beaten y'all by at least 2, maybe 3 TDs, last year. They were that good. If you want to speak of the past, here's one for ya: Gilmer 45 Celina 22
This year would be about the same ....... if y'all can make it there! It'll definitely be much easier in Region I! Right now I'm just gonna focus on the task at hand ---- Liberty-Eylau. Anything can happen between now and then, so hope to see ya there.

I'll ask you again, did you actually see the 2006 game between LH and Celina? Do you even know what the final score was?

I would be surprised if any rational Celina or LH fans would say a rematch last year would have been a 2 or 3 TD win for either side.

The problem with either side of that argument is that had the two teams played last year it would not have been a rematch of the 2006 teams.

Agree with you completely Kep, but I'm just saying both teams were very good again in 07, and I doubt it would have been a blowout either way.

Yeah, I know about that state game. I did not see it. I bet it was one heckuva game, but that was '06. Liberty Hill was a better team by far last year than the year before. Celina probably was too, but it is my opinion that the Bobcats would've lost by 2-3 TDs in '07. But really we'll never know, so the point is moot.

OK, now I get it and am convinced LH would have beat us by 2-3 Td's. At first I was looking for some sort of detailed justification/analysis for this statement, but the fact that you actually "talked to several" people that had this opinion is MUCH more convincing.

Lighten up dude. So, everybody doesn't have the same opinion as you. We will never know for sure, so, like I said before, the point is MOOT. Nothing you have said is justification/analysis for us to think otherwise. Why can't you just understand that not everybody is convinced that Celina was the best last year? Nothing you say will convince me and a whole lot of other people otherwise, because there is no way to factually back your argument, either.

Alright, this is my last post on the subject. If you take the time to read what I have said, you will find nowhere that I predicted Celina would have won the rematch. All I have said is that anyone who saw the 2006 game knows it could have gone either way. As I have said many times, hats off to LH for stepping up and winning the game. Now, I don't think they added many players from 06 to 07, and we didn't lose that much. So, if people have the "opinion" that LH would have won by 2-3 touchdowns, they are certainly welcome to it. Everyone know's what they say about opinions. It's easy to make bold predictions when it's an opinion and there's not much on the line. But I doubt either Celina or LH fans who saw the game in 06 would have come to a rematch in 07 willing to bet their house on their team winning.

As for me lightening up? You haven't read much of what I have posted this week.

Well seeing as East Texas teams only play East Texas teams in alot of non district games..and all of district games and for first couple of rounds of play-offs..it is pretty hard for one east Texas team to beat every east texas team they played for that long of a stretch

Alto and Gilmer would be close

That is such a load...I mean really. I am weary from it. I hear snide remarks, veiled reference and just plain rudeness brought out in force daily if Celina fans show ANY form of loyalty or faithfulness, much less team spirit and pride!!!!!Even when we say, WAIT WE VERY LIKELY COULD LOSE TO A TEAM AS GOOD AS DF. MY TAKE ON THIS GAME

i have dabbled in the smoaky boards, and it is interesting, but none of this really matters in the long run

Celina is not currently as good as they were last year, but they are further along than i thought they would be given that the bobcats only returned 12 lettermen

Celina has all the respect in the world for Daingerfield--anyone that has been a fan for more than five years remembers the last time these two teams met.

However, the situation is much different now. Daingerfield has shrunk in size, and Celina has grown. The two teams we fielded were played a bad hand--they were dealing with our youngest and weakest teams in the last 12 years and they had just moved up to 3A. Not that they would've won the 2A title those years, but moving up didn't help. (any longtime observer could confirm this)

You could see the difference two years made. Celina rebounded and was much better prepared to make the jump the second time around, and had one of the most successful seasons ever by a team moving up in classification (just because they lost in the title game doesn't diminish the accomplishment)

And of course, they made up for it the next year

So now, Celina has hit a little bit of a rebuilding stretch once again--but it won't make as much of a difference this time

why? why is it different this year than in 2002-2003, five years ago?

the difference is celina is REALLY starting to grow, and it will only accelerate as the next 5 or 6 years go by

maybe it is not as noticeable yet, but the bobcats are a little better in depth now, and that is why i think they have started a little bit ahead so far

another thing to keep in mind is that numbers really do count for something. If you took two celina teams with similar makeups and then had one pull from 349 students (our numbers in 02-03, when we were the smallest school in 3A) and now when we are approaching the 500 mark-there is a difference. It is hard to compare numbers with other schools, since you can have horrid 5A schools and awesome 2A schools like Tatum or 99 Mart, but self-introspection can show differences

so after all that BS, i can say this:

Celina will be fired up for this game--i think the motivation factor is on their side. They are a top 6-7 3A team facing a top 25 2A team.

The Bobcats are the favorites, and if the offensive line continues to develop, the skill position players can take care of the rest. In that case, i believe the bobcats will best Daingerfield's magical "33 points given up" mark on defense in the last however many years.

Celina 38, Daingerfield 14
