I have been compiling stats for the TE position in 3A. The Top 5 Tight Ends (stats only)as of 10/14/03:

Zac Burks 10-222-3 (Celina)
Tommy Shelton 10-194-3 (Royce City)
Giorgio Bostice 11-203-2 (Kennedale)
Brett Sweeny 10-97-3 (Needville)
Tyler Johnson 8-78-3 (Forney)

There are still several districts that have not been reviewed, but this is the top 5 of all that have calculated at this time. There could be several errors (if the player is listed as a TE, but actually plays WR, if stats are credited to the wrong player, etc). The stats are compiled using news sources from the areas represented. If you can add to the list, I would appreciate it.

So hard to compare TE's just through numbers, but here's another one to consider for the list:

Chris Miller, Sr., Longview Spring Hill
6'4" 220#
12 catches, 166 yards, 2 or 3 TD's.
(also doubles as DE with about 40 tackles)

I think a tight end with good hands is great but how many sweeps have his runningbacks taken for extra yardage because of his blocks. I guess that is the reason colleges want the TE 6'4" and 240 + he will do more blocking than catching!

fatcat255, Didn't Miller earn All-District last year? Where can I go online to find stats for District 15-3A?
Commercefan, I agree that a TE's blocking skills are often more important that his catching ability. Once the stat leaders have been established, I will then compare the percentage each leaders' team throws vs. runs the ball. I can also compare each teams' success with both the run and pass. Obviously I cannot attend every game, so I cannot honestly rate each player. All I can do is compare the stats (when available). If your team's TE deserves recognition, please post his name and any links to available stats for comparison.

CatsDen, yes, Miller was All-District last season. He might've even been as a DE also. He was an Honorable Mention All-State pick at TE.

Sorry, I know of no place on line to get 15-3A stats. Not many "technologically advanced" newspapers in this area.

I know they have All-District selections, but I have never seen All-State selections specifically for TE.
