You can't make mistakes and expect to beat a team of the caliber of LH. Three missed PAT's was the difference. It was the tale of two halves. Wylie, in Sandifer's words after the game "Grew up tonight." That's why he schedules teams like this in pre-district. It will pay off later.

And for what its worth, it wasn't a moral victory. We had our chances and didn't execute. It hurts. Hope we'll see LH again in December. Congrats to LH on the win. It was a good clean game by two class programs.

Sorry, the Wing T wasn't impressive.........but the LH kids were.:D Very disciplined and flawless football. One fumble and very few offensive penalties. ALL the backs never stopped running until they were on the ground. But Wylie has nothing to hang their head about. They played a very good team and hung with them. They were missing one starting back and the second starter went out in the 2nd qtr. A dropped pass at the 1 yard line, and 3 missed extra points were just too many mistakes to overcome against a team as good as LH. I'm not making excuses, LH capitalized and earned the victory. Well worth the price of admission! I hope there is a rematch. Congrats LH!

I dunno Hillman...I love smash-mouth football as much as the next guy...but a well run, precision spread is a blast to watch.

The best thing about LH's offense for them, is that they have maybe 16 plays at most, but the execution is so perfect it's very hard to stop them, it's as if you only guess right you can stop them, and I'm proud to say we got them to punt twice...how many times did they punt in the playoffs last year?;)

LH's Slot T did give us fits and they run it well, but our spread gave them fits and we run it well. We couldn't really stop them in the 1st half, they rarely stopped us in the 2nd half. Like the other posters have pointed out, missed PAT's kept it from being tied and a wide-open, dropped 5 yard, sure TD pass at the goal line probably cost us the win. Mistakes are part of the game though and we made them, LH did not. Congrats to the Panthers and hope we do meet again in the playoffs (I know, I know--be careful what you wish for... ).

Those things are what MAKES a wing-t team successful. Trust me, it is as much the offensive scheme/game plan as it is the talent running it.

Thats a great point, bulldog...LH usually scores the majority of their points in the 2nd half. I am getting the impression that LH's offense is not quite up to last years level, and their D just might not be up to last year either (at least at this early point of the season), but as a complete package they are still good enough to beat some of the best.

The whole thing about beating LH is keeping it close till the end. If you can do that, then anything can happen...one fumble, one blown coverage, one interception...afterall, it's high school football!

At this early point in the season, that's a somewhat fair assessment on both sides. But, I also think that it's not so much "not quite up to" as it is "we're different", at least on the offensive side.

Good points...but it's a tribute to your boys that they still find a way to win. That's what having players on the team who have the fever to win, backing up the newer players who are learning.

LH is building some strong character with these close wins. They are also learning they have to come to play every week. This will only make them better. i can't wait until Brownwood and LH meet in 2 weeks. Looking forward to it!

They started out kinda slow (relative to the end of the season) the last two years too, but they have a way of showing up ready to play. How well Brownwood will fare depends on how many VERY good slot-t teams they've played recently.

These last two games have been very much like playoff type games. Anytime you play games like these on the road they will be close. Wylie is a very talented and well coached team. They also probably had the most complex offense LH has ever played. They had tons of formations and executed them very well. You can tell they are very well coached. At one point in the 4th quarter we had to pull our starting free safety out for two plays. Wylie threw right at the new free safety. Almost got us on the first try. Then on the very next play they burned us on a broken coverage. That was a very smart move by Wylie. Our starting free safety probably hasn't been off the field since he was a soph.

This week we have Manor and I think we will look a lot like we have the past two years. It would be nice if we can blow someone out. At this point I think it would help the offense to be able to run the plays more effectively. Not sure we can against Manor, I don't know enough about them. I'm just ready for an easy win.

Defense looked to improve over zero week. We are getting better. Just have to stop the penalties. Those extended drives for Wylie last night. On offense we need some running backs to step up and take control of their positions. We really need a couple of guys to feel comfortable running the ball and get up the field fast. I think a game like Manor can help them do that. They are talented running backs. We all know what they can do. It's just this years schedule early in the season is tough to get on a roll with the offense.

There are two different ways to get better. Either play a bunch of teams you can blow out and gain confidence that way. Or you can play the best in the state and learn where your weaknesses are and fix them. This year more than any other year in our history we are playing the best of the best. It feels different watching it from the stands. But I see already it is making us a better team faster. Now get after Manor.

I have watched LH grow as program for the last 4 years. We always start out a little slow. We will grow as a team and as players. I know that the young men that make up our team see areas of improvement. You could see it last night in their faces as well as their attitudes. I personally want to thank each one of them for two great games. I also want to thank LHPantherMom on all her help to get my registration issues worked out.

I saw one of our LBs today and was telling him how hard it was to follow the ball from the stands. He just laughed and said "You ought to try to follow the ball with a 280 lb. monster hitting you in the mouth!"

After watching LH run that offense, it is obvious that part of the beauty of it is that there is no way a team can similate it in practice. I know that is true with lots of offenses, but the speed and precision with which LH runs it is impossible to similate. I even felt bad for the refs because I'm sure that they had trouble following the ball also (at least those refs who are supposed to). I came away from that game thinking one of two things is possible. 1) LH isn't as good as they have been ..... or 2) We (AW) have reason to be excited about the quality of our team. I'm hoping it is #2.

I enjoyed meeting LHPM and several other LH fans. I'm sorry my ol' lady didn't make the game. She had to help her sister overhaul their tractor, so it will be ready for next Saturday's pull. They are the favorites to win next Saturday at the "Merkel 33rd Annual Corn Cobb Eating Leap Frog Challenge And Tractor Pull Extravaganza" .

The whole thing about beating LH is keeping it close till the end. If you can do that, then anything can happen...one fumble, one blown coverage, one interception...afterall, it's high school football! I hate to agree with this unknown poster :D but maybe he is correct. It is early in the season and there is plenty of time to work on things and get them corrected. This game was an example of what people had refered to the "Vance vs. Sandifer" factor. Liberty Hill came out and Wylie didn't really have an answer but stayed in the game. Halftime allowed Wylie to make adjustments and they kept Liberty Hill on their heels and with no halftime the Panthers had to make adjustments on the fly and did what it took to pull out the victory. Both of these teams should make noise during the playoffs.

Glad to hear you admit to this Fan1. Usually fans are not on their toes and sitting on the edge of their seats if the game is a so called "Beat Down". Not going to linger on this, but I just had to throw a little jab.

The M & G was awesome. I really enjoyed meeting LH mom and seeing Ranger Mom again. Along with DaHop, SW Red and many others. Congrats to the Panters on the Victory. I like Bogey, hope that this LH team is as good as the others because that would be very incouraging for the Bulldogs. The mistakes that cost us a legitament shot a winning the game are very correctable mistakes ( missed Extra Points and wide open dropped passes in the endzone ). I'm not making excuses but these are things that can be fixed. I think they already change the Kicker. I also enjoyed watch two of the best coaches in the state work their magic and watching both of these coaches work the officials. This game should be on ESPN classics. I was also very impressed with how physical LH was. I know we lost but I left the game encouraged about or football team. I'm not sure it's going to get any easier either. Frienship, Waco LV, Canyon over the next three weeks. Frienship can't wait for this game and they have series revenge on their minds after the past two years. Good Luck to LH the rest of the way. I know it's almost impossible for the two teams to meet again this year, but that would be awesome. We have to "make" the playoffs first though:D
