There are many school districts that can confuse by having an area associated with the HS name when it is not the same district. Examples:

Palestine
Palestine ISD - Palestine HS
Westwood ISD - "Palestine" Westwood (only comprises a small section of city of Palestine)

Waco
Waco ISD - Waco High, University High
Robinson ISD - "Waco" Robinson High
La Vega ISD - "Waco" La Vega High
Connally ISD - "Waco" Connally High
Midway ISD - "Waco" or "Hewitt" Midway High

Gilmer
Gilmer ISD - Gilmer High
Union Hill ISD - "Gilmer" Union Hill High

Killeen
Killeen ISD - Killeen HS, Ellison HS, Shoemaker HS, Harker Heights HS (some think HHHS is Harker Heights ISD)

Abilene
Abilene ISD - Abilene High, Cooper High
Wylie (Taylor) ISD - "Abilene" Wylie (although not using Abilene can cause some confusion due to Wylie (Collin) ISD)

New Braunfels
New Braunfels ISD - New Braunfels High
Comal ISD - "New Braunfels" or "Comal" Canyon High, "Fischer" Canyon Lake High, Smithson Valley High

And I won't even get started on San Antonio or Houston. Lots of -side ISDs there. I am sure there are more, such as Community (Nevada area) ISD and Lovejoy (Lucas) ISD, but you get the point.

Anybody got any to add?

It's just LA VEGA. The only reason Waco is attached to it is so folks from outside the area who have never heard of them get a general location on the school.

There's a school out in East Texas in the Big Thicket National Forest called Big Sandy. Since there is a football Big Sandy out in East Texas as well, the basketball one has often been called Livingston Big Sandy in the past. More recently though they've gone by Dallardsville Big Sandy since the post office for the area moved there several years back.

I put the "" around the names that they commonly are referred to as. Since that original thread a few weeks back, we have all started referring to La Vega HS correctly as just La Vega. BTW, Big Sandy always confused me too, LOL.

I think they call it Waco La Vega because its in Bellmead and nobody would recognize that.

When I was in Freer there was a man we called Waco Slim who was a great person who worked in the oil fields. He has passed away and I don't remember his real name unfortunately.
