He still hasn't adjusted for the realignment so Brownwood is still listed in 4A. Their overall rating is 1.86 which would put them a tiny bit ahead of WO-S at #4

Massey still has Brownwood in 4A. By their rating they would be listed 4th in 3A. Don't know if they will change them with the new alignment or not. They have the right schedule for them.

They would have Farmersville tied with Brownsboro in their ratings.

Wow! Wimberley in the top 25...unexpected, but good to see. Hopefully we can build on this as the season goes on.

I don't think a random computer poll maybe 2 players will look at will affect anything.

There is a very brief description from their website:

http://www.highschoolsports.net/hs-football/

Then click on the tab "About the Massey Ratings"

After following his system for several years the beginning of the season is based a lot on last years performance for initial strength. It takes several games for the statistics to begin to yield good results. It does not take into account calling off the dogs early or beating a team by 100 points. It smooths out many of those intangables and gives serious weight to wins and losses and comparison of other teams and their records against similar or the same competition. It ends up being completely objective, but does not start the season that way.

If I am not properly representing his algrithems I am sure someone will correct me. I have watched his work for about 8 years and like the fact that it is totally objective and fairly accurate as the number of games grow.

I think almost every poll out there gets more accurate as more games are played. That only makes sense!

Actually, I did a study on the AP poll going back almost 50 years and the Preseason polls are significantly more accurate at predicting an eventual state champ than the end of season polls are.

The final AP poll is released just prior to the playoffs beginning so it's actually an end of regular season poll.

If you go by the Massey rankings, we have two stellar matchups this week.... (not that they weren't already stellar).

#1 Liberty Hill vs #3 Abilene Wylie (he predicts LH 30 - Wylie 25)
#4 Brownwood vs #6 Waco La Vega (he predicts Bwood 27 - LaVega 25)

I thought our schedule got a little easier this year compared to last year but I saw we have the 8th most difficult. I wonder what it was last year when we also played La Vega.

Robinson at 9 is a bit of a surprise.

Okay, lets liven things up with a never ending argument. But this statement is based on the facts of the Massey Ratings. And these have been around for a long time.

Strongest Region based on Massey Ratings!:D

Region 1 - 12 teams in top 25
(4 teams from district 2) #3,#4,#11,#22
(4 teams from district 8) #1,#16,#19,#24

(3 teams from district 5) #13,#15,#25

Region 3 - 6 teams in top 25

Region 2 - 4 teams in top 25

Region 4 - 3 teams in top 25

According to the Massey Ratings Region 1 is clearly the toughest region with 48% of the 25 teams. With three very though districts.

Region 3 is a distant second, but word has it they have the most speed and talent, at least that's what the word is anyway.

Regions 2 & 4 bring up the rear.

***There will be at least two teams on this list that will not make the playoffs. One from district 2 and one from district 8.:(

Also Snyder (another good Reg. 1 team was somehow left out of the top 25)

I'd be pretty certain Robinson will evacuate this list in a hurry after friday.

Undersized and average speed with little experience on both offense and defense.

I don't think it's gonna be a bunch of fun for the Robinson gang this year.

Rockdale didn't make the list and we seen the Tigers (well all but the ones that were held out of the scrimmage) and Robinson in the 2nd scrimmage.

Everyone needs to remember, the playoff's are won in November and December, not in September. There has been years where teams ranked or unranked burst on the scene late and make some big noise and I figure this year won't be any different.

But this does give us something to talk about Monday- Thursday's......

I have thought that Gidding's schedule this year is at least as tough as anybody elses but I didn't want to be the biggest Homer on this board and brag about it. When Sealy rises up in the top teams, (which I'm sure they will), it will increase Giddings strength of schedule only more. I just hope we didn't bite off too much to chew.

Burk is rated too high. Saw them play Sweetwater in the opener. Both teams did not look very sharp. Argyle should be higher. We will see how they fare this week - - tough assignment. If Graham has 16 boys starting that have never played varsity ball (not sure on this, but using info from another poster) then they might be a bit too high. I agree that the Gobblers will be a strong contender. Lots of interesting positions, early in season. Thank gosh for Fridays, so the teams can settle these issues on the field. Gilmer not in the top 10? Anyhow, I think it is fun to look at rankings. I think it gets folks fired up to see some football.

Strength of Schedule at this point is based on games played so Giddings has the higest SOS because the one game that they have played is against the #1 team in the state.
