How is Wylie's rush defense? If LH wants to keep their streak alive they better hold onto the ball.

The Wylie band will be HUGE in this game. :nerd: :D

Seriously, this should be a great game for both teams to find out "where they are" and "how far they still have to go".

Good Luck & may the best team win!

My memory is that LH puts ball on the carpet about 4/5 times a game, losing 2/3 of them. The announcers said during the game friday that LH fumbling 4 times is unusual. Has it changed over the last couple of years?

Last year we rarely ever fumbled. Minus the Carthage game, where i think we fumbled 4 times in the 3rd. In years past we were prone to fumble about 4 times a game like you said.

If we play like we did against Vernon when we line up across from LH--we're in big trouble... however, if we clean up the mistakes and play to our potential and LH plays like they did against Giddings at our place--they're in trouble ;) . Wylie often seems to struggle a bit early in the season, so I expect LH to win this one. But if this were November ball, I'd pick Wylie all the way, no matter where they play.

IMHO, Liberty Hill has everything to prove. They sure didn't do it in Week 0. I am talking about all the hype and the "unstoppable" offense. #1 Ranking? um no.

I am picking Abilene Wylie. I hope LH is undefeated when we play them, but I am going to laugh when they do get beat this week. Sorry, no disrespect, I just know it will make me chuckle.

At the same time, I am not saying that Brownwood doesn't have issues as well. All teams do this early. And I also heard that Giddings is somewhat legit. Time will tell. I also say that Brownwood is going to have to come to play to beat this La Vega Team, but we should handle them. I heard Marlin's team consisted of 10+ Sophs...

This will be a good week of Football!

I agree and disagree with you, Rocket. LH does indeed have something to prove this week. I am sure they know that. But as far as the #1 ranking? They won the game, they put up a lot of yards, they didnt let the opponent score THAT many points (26), I think they will keep their #1 ranking.

This could be a great game. I will be in at our Dripping Springs game, so will look forward to chatting with some LH fans late Friday.

Yes, they were ranked. Dave Campbell had Giddings at #13, but Abilene Wylie was ranked at #24!! So if you use these polls as a guide for the upcoming game, then AW shouldnt be as much as a threat as Giddings...we shall see.

This whole "unimpressive" thing cracks me up. It took us to Week 5 last season for someone to be "unimpressed". Last year's unimpressive win came to the tune of 35-10. Oh, the irony of it all. If we score too many "acceptable" points, then we're classless & running up the score, even with 2nd/3rd string playing. If we don't score enough points to "satisfy" the rest of you, or have a close game, we don't impress.

The last time I checked, the Panthers aren't too worried about "impressing" anyone. And frankly, if the # 1 ranking is undeserved, then my suggestion is that you go to the sticky at the top of the board and choose the rankings you see fit, and please rank the most "impressive" 3A team as # 1.

I dont think anyone has grounds to complain about "running up the score" if a team plays the 2nd and 3rd string. There's little else you can do...minus the obvious things like kicking on-side kicks, going for it on 4th down, etc.

Seriously?

All I have heard from wimbo and others is how unstoppable this offense is and 10 minute drives and all that good stuff. I am no saying they are not good. But heck, the way others were building them up, I thought they would roll. IMHO, (which I am entitled to), LH is just another team based on what happened last Friday night. I hope they can handle that #1 Target because they have Wylie and then us.

I am sure LH is a better team. I have no doubt. I just expected A WHOLE LOT MORE. This week should tell the tale for Brownwood, La Vega, Wylie, and Liberty Hill. If they are all close games, then we know where the bar is set for all of 3A. If not, then there will be some teams that need to get their butt in gear, and Brownwood may very well be one of them.

Just because I am not kissing LH's butt, don't get mad at me. I just expected more from the greatest offense to ever step on a field.

Rankings don't mean anything to the person that is ranked, but it sure does to that team that isn't. ;)

I wasnt at the game, but from what i've heard we never trailed. Yes 2 points is a very close game, heck i predicted that we would win by no more than 10. So i obviously wasnt very surprised by the final score. All i was saying is before you open your big mouth about how unimpressed you are with us, think about the fact that Giddings manhandled Burnet in their scrimmage just last week. So your extra TD margin of victory isnt much to feel good about. Both teams didnt play "amazing", but both teams damn sure better this week. I agree completly with what you said about setting the bar for 3A however.

Look Rocket, you need to understand something. Seeing as how we must get through LH to reach our goals this year, I personally wouldnt mind seeing them fall off and start to be a very beatable team...nothing would help us here in Wimberley more than to have them get beat up during the season. My comments here are more as a response to the Brownwood smack talk that we all have seen. I just love a good rivalry, and you guys have developed one in short order. I would personally sleep very well with LH coming into Wimberley with a 1-and -7 record. I would also sleep very well knowing I had the winning Lotto numbers too...but....

You're not an idiot. But was the Slot T stopped? No, no it wasn't. It won us the game, and the win streak grew from 24 to 25. Stopping the Slot T is beating LH, if you dont beat us..then you obviously didn't stop it.

I know it is hard to stay on top. There has been an even amount of smack talk between Brownwood and Liberty Hill. Most of it coming from our stance on we like our chances way better in 3A, rather than 4A and we have not guaranteed a victory or state championship yet. From this, we got confronted with LH is the best thing since sliced bread and the Slot T is going to do this and that and can't be stopped. All I am saying in reply to that, NOT IMPRESSED.

What is the big deal? LOL

IMO, at some point in a game, if a team is "stopping" us, we have to punt. Either that, or we stray from our game plan, which would mean "forcing" passes that aren't there. (i.e. Cuero 2005 :( ) We had zero punts, and less than our 3-passes/game average.

Yeah...I know what you mean. You guys won against a good team.

Remember, we played whoever Dave Campbell told us to play in this case. Other than that, we got our hands full and that is the way we like it. Sounds like LH has a pretty tough pre-district schedule as well. I didn't even realize LH played Wylie this year until Friday night! I am looking forward to that game as well...should be a great one.

How deep is Liberty Hill's backfield. I know they have one RB back but i have not kept up with them that much.

Knowing what i know, I think LH wins this one as long as they don't turn the ball over and do not fall behind by more than two scores. Wylie will have to score on every possession and try and blitz to disrupt LH's running game. It is important to try and get LH in 3rd and longs.

I do think Liberty Hill will come out on top. Should be a good week 2 match-up.

Starting QB is back. Lattimore spent 5 1/2 games last season splitting time with another, and he's always ready & willing to get his hands on the ball. We used 6 different backs this past Friday, and have a couple others that are almost "there".

Dang! Five pages and no one from Wylie posted yet? And the only defender of the AW program is from Brownwood:D
I'm curious after last week. I think Wylie's success will depend on which AW team shows up, the one that Vernon shut down frequently, or the one that stopped the Lions on the last drive and went on a 80+ yard drive to run out the clock. Perkins, Gilmore, and Ramos can all run the ball and both QB's are capable if the receivers can hold on to the ball this week. Jennings at LB will have to have a monster game, and I expect he will.
So who do we look for at LH? I know we'll never know who has the ball until it's run into the endzone  but who should we pay attention to in pregame warmups? Looking forward to this game. We'll pray everyone has a safe trip.

Wylie will probably never have more than 6 returning starters at a time, that number should be disregarded when talking about our school. We do have 4 returning though... We play 3 of the top 4 teams in the state only one team that didn't make the playoffs (Breckinridge). Players to watch would be Chance Perkins and Jesse Jennings I guess. We have the best coach in state of Texas...lol

 don't have anything else I guess.

...I thought this was a AW vs LH thread?
But honestly IDK, coach uses scrims as just more often than not just to do evaluating or to send home scouts with nothing, actually I sat down by a scout that wore red and blue didn't have a graham mascot, so I'm guessing he was a different school we are playing, after the scrimmage he only had two plays written down.

Yes LH won by only 2 but take 2 of the fumbles aways and LH wins by over 2 TDs. Then no one here would be doubting the result. I know fumbles are part of the game but that fact is Giddings is a really good team and they could not stop the offense.
LH offense was never stopped Friday night. They stopped themselves by fumbles.
LH Defense does have some holes (I think 2) they better get filled or they will have some problems stopping some teams.

LIke I said earlier. The only way to beat LH is to outscore them. You wont stop them. You must outscore them. Your gonna need 30 or more points to beat them. If they dont fumble your gonna need 40 or 50.

Vernon fan point of view:

I only listened to the Wylie webcast of the game and heard from people at the game for this opinion. Also, I did not play HS football, love it and passionate about it but I didn't play. (When dealing with West Texas, especially Wylie, Sweetwater, and Snyder, fans for some reason you need to add this disclaimer)

Wylie threw 3 INT's in the first half and Vernon's young offense didnt do anything with it. Vernon was at the goal line right before half and didnt score. Wylie cant really stop the pounding up the gut, which Vernon didnt realize until the second half. They do everything else very well. They have good speed and most of all really play their positions well. Wylie also has a nack for playing up to theri competition and always showing up for the big game. I would think this will be a good game, I dont know about LH this year but I know Wylie will be hard to beat. They are also getting a starter back on offense that they didnt have against Vernon. Being a home game for Wylie I would think this one will be close and wouldnt be surprised if Wylie pulled it off. Kudos to Wylie for always playing a killer schedule !

Yes, the Perkins kid is going to play but I don't know how effective he will be. And he will more than likely only play defense for know. I doubt he plays any on offense for several weeks. Just my opinion, but I did talk to his parents at the game.

If you want to open a sour can of worms, Wylie threw three int.'s in the first half while dominating the game. Half time score "could" have easily been 28-0 or 28-7 if Vernon had score right before half. Would of Could of is always an argument.

This should be an great game. This is a matchup that I think both towns have been looking for, for about 4 or 5 years. Can't wait till Friday. I hope the LH fans can turn out for this one. The atmosphere should be awesome. Lot's of Purple!

Your right, it could have been bad for Vernon but lets say he doesnt throw those three INT's but throws 3 different ones that were all returned to the house for Vernon TD's. I will leave that one alone for the sake of this being a thread about LH v Wylie.

If I were closer to Abilene I would defintley be at this game.

Hey Dom, I was just being a little spiteful. I was at the game. Typical early season game. Lot of silly, correctable mistakes on bothsides. I do think the best team won the game, but I would not want to catch Vernon in late Oct. and Nov. They looked like a team that could be hard to recon with later on. There was one thing that totally sureprised me though, and I would love to here an opinion from a Vernon fan who was at the game. Wylie got the ball with about 6:00 minutes +/- to go in the game and started moving the ball down the field. Vernon had three timeouts and never used one of them. Wylie ended up on about the one yardline at the end of the game. Because Vernon's coach made no attempt to stop the clock, Coach Sandifer chose to not even run a play at the end of the game. It wasn't as if Wylie was gashing the Vernon defense either. I just couldn't believe that Vernon didn't use some timeouts only being down "8" points. Would love to hear some thoughts from Vernon fans on this. :D

Two of the most successful teams in 3A finally get to meet. Kudos to both coaches for scheduling this game. Quality programs both---Wylie, a venerable power in the West, and LH, the new power on the block in Centex, and new Reg I member.

I think the 3-headed monster slot-T of LH will be too much for the Bulldog "D" (with all due respect) to handle for 4 quarters.....I say LH by 7 in a good one----but I won't be shocked if the Bulldogs rally and pull this one out, purely because of the "Sandifer" factor---he prepares the Bulldogs each week better than most coaches, and historically is tough to beat in tight ballgames--- (ask Decatur).

Good Post Bull, by the way is appears that the Bulls look to be pretty potent this year. Breckenridge, though they may not win a game in district 2, is really not that bad and has some talented kids. The Bulls really handed to them Friday, and in Breckenridge.

It seems to me that Wylie's best chance to win will be to find a way to slow down LH's slot-T, easier said than done I'm sure. I don't see Wylie outscoring anyone, at least not yet. We've got some issues on offense that will take a few more games to work out (ie. young O-line, inexperience and not a clear starter at QB, question mark at receiver, and Perkins being injured at RB). Even though we have two other good backs, Perkins' absence is hard to overcome.

So it looks to me like Jennings and his crew will have the burden on them to somehow hold LH to 21 or less. To me that's the magic number for us to have a chance. Just my take on things....

Thanks for the props for the Bulls, TF2. Breckenridge has a new coach and I know the tradition-rich Breck fans expect a good team every season, but it is going to take a little time for anyone to resurect their program. I wish them the best of luck---they will need it competing in that killer 2-3A district.
Like so many past seasons, I think the Bulls are going to move the ball and put points up on just about everybody---the big question mark will again be the "D's" ability to prevent sustained drives, especially by smash-mouth type offenses. The secondary is improved and should play the pass well, and the overall experience at all positions is greater. We're in a really tough neighborhood in Reg I this season, and I hope the Bulls can "peak" at the right time to make a deep playoff run.

The Jennings boy (#12) is a stud no doubt. Wylie Def. coor. always seems to come up with good game plans in big games. I've heard so much about the Slot "T" and it must be nasty. The Bulldog defense will have to play good for us to have a chance to win. Is the LB from LH last year back or is he gone. I think his name was Pratt?? No, not at all! And I do feel really bad! :( In racking my brain trying to remember numbers of new (to varsity or as starters) kids, I did leave some off unintentionally. # 77, 60, 14...and I'm certain that I've missed others. :( So, if I did, "All of them" will have to suffice until I am not relying on my brain & have a roster in front of me.

You shouldn't feel bad, I would think forgetting numbers is totally understandable, especially after one game has been played......that was a NASTY accusation that was hurled at you, IMO!!

On another note, I see Wylie moving the ball on the defense when they need to. But, Wylie isn't going to be able to stop the Slot T this week. Vance will let those boys know that the ball wont be hitting the turf this week. With this said..my hypothesis is this....

If Wylie is struggling on offense, its going to be a long night for them.

And I forgot (I think) one of our starting DE's :( and need to verify his number (80-something...2? 4?). Heck there's several others & lots that should be noticed that may not start but will be on the field.

Games like this, early in the season, are hard for me to even have a feel for. I'll never forget getting thrashed 44-7 by Decatur a couple of years ago, and then sending them home in December 14-13. What I'm saying is that with most good programs, winning a game in week 1,2,3 is not the ultimate goal and personnel is still being evaluated, etc. Having said that, I would have to say that I wouldn't be surprised if LH spanked us, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the other way around. Last year, a very good 4A Frenship team came in here in week 2 and left with a pretty good butt-whoopin' and we were all pretty surprised that we had beaten them that soundly. So, like I say, nothing would surprise me, but I will say that both teams will be better having played each other.

At our game, one of our guys was running the ball and I was yelling for him....problem is, I was yelling the kids name who wore that number the PAST 2 seasons!!

Heck, I've called one of our kids by the wrong name for several years! His younger brother is in Adam's class, and probably 75% of the first time for the night yells, he gets called by little bro's name. Of course, I never seem to call the younger one by the older one's name.

Exactly! We do still have positions that are being evaluated, it appears. Or maybe it's a case of spreading PT around more throughout the game, instead of toward the end. Funny thing...they don't pay me to coach or make those decisions (for good reason :D ).

While I was looking at the map, I noticed the road to Abilene goes right thru Brownwood. Howabout you stop the bus for a couple of hours and settle another score "while your there"!!!

This game IMO is too tight to call, but if I'm going to guess, another close one with the nod to LH. I say less than 10 points.

I feel the need to clarify and try to do this in as few of words as possible. Maybe I came too harsh but it upset me that LHPM listed every starting offensive linemen except for my nephew who happens to play right next to her son. All of the newcomers were mentioned and it seemed a little purposeful considering my nephew has been PLAYING (as opposed to sitting on the bench) on varsity since he was a sophomore and his number has never changed. As far as my kids, my oldest son has also been playing on varsity since he was a sophomore and has started for 2 years now. My youngest son is new to varsity this year. Not that any of that matters what upset me is that when you go listing kids and you leave 1 off it sticks out like a sore thumb. And I know the coaches discourage the boys from reading these boards but they do and it can be hurtful when you leave 1 kid off. All of our kids are friends and have been playing together since they were in 7th grade they are a TEAM and I want them to remain that way. LHPM says it was a honest mistake and I take her at face value.

As far as who to watch, #21 Cody Lattimore is the #1 athlete in Liberty Hill anyone that has ever played us knows that. But LH plays as a TEAM and everybody does their job.

Now ya’ll can go back to bashing me.

Two spots over - but again, it wasn't intentional at all. (I haven't gotten used to someone other than Ryan being there.) Neither were the KEY defensive players that were left off. :( Many apologies to all.

# 1 will depend on what criteria is used (coaches' criteria is different), but IMO he has been starting on varsity for all years of high school for a very good reason. I'm pretty sure people laughed at me when the boys were 7th graders & I was telling them to watch out for him! :D

In any town, when it comes to the kids, honest oversights happen and are understood and forgiveable. Contrived omissions, hurtfull and thoughtless comments, and the like, fueled by jealousy, anger, or revenge, and intended to injure a kid, program, or coach are not. It is purely a matter of intent on the part of the author.

Runnin_Panther,

I understand completely how your emotions can run away with you here on these boards when it comes to blood relationships to the kids playing. It's happened to me on more than one occasion. You explained yourself, and LHPM clarified, so no need to think people are going to bash you. you are OK in my book.

By the way, the kids reading this will understand it was an oversight...no need to worry about them, i would think.

LPHM's son got some special mention last night at the Wylie Booster Club. Coach Sandifer always gives a short scouting report on that week's opponent. He spent most of his time talking about LH's O-line. His exact words were " #78 and #72 will be as big and athletic as any tackles we'll see all year." He also said that #78's mom has been known to charge the field when a holding call is called against her baby boy. One line judge had to be carted off when she got through with him. He went on to say that he understands where #78 gets his athletic ability because when she charged the field that time, that she moved pretty well for an older woman. Anyway, that's what he said.

I'll take the purple team to win!

Okay, they're both purple. I don't know for sure when it'll happen, but I will tell y'all this - Liberty Hill WILL lose a game this year. I don't know which game it'll be, but they will lose a game this season. It's bound to happen! Mark my words, the streak will end. :stirpot: :1popcorn: That's not a knock on the Panthers, I just feel it's gonna happen this year.

As for this game, I'll say LH will win by a TD ..... 28-21.

Can't we just all get along?
Sorry, I really just wanted to know who to look for in warmups. I don't care who is related to whom. I'll just be amazed by the whole team:p
And I already see the "you WILL be amazed by the whole team" comments coming, so you don't have to post them. I know you don't get to be state champions 2 years in a row, without being good. That's what is going to be great about this game. I've read so much about LH I can't wait to see them play.

For my 1000 post, I pick LH in this one by 21. Their defense will not have a problem with wylie, and their offense will do its thing.

I don't look ahead. Since it's week 1 right now, I'm confident that our team has what it takes to keep the streak alive. It's up to them to execute the plan the coaches have for them and it's not a task they take lightly. Whether they will or not, we'll all have to wait until tomorrow night to know. :)

Gotta like the way this whole game is setting up for the Bulldogs. Obviously a home underdog, something that almost never happens. I never count Sandifer out of any game, and like our chance even better being the underdog at home. The last time that Wylie was this big of an underdog was last year in the semi's against Gilmer. Outmanned in almost every position the Dawgs had it first and goal on the three yardline, score tied with 3:00 minutes left in the game. Yes, we lost, Give Gilmer all the credit in the world, but the Sandifer factor can never be underestimated. The last time Wylie was a overwhelming home underdog was when #4 ranked 4A Frenship came to town last year, and if I remember correctly they left town haven lost 35-7, an was there only loss until the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Not saying that Wylie will do the same to LH, because nobody has been able to beat them in almost two years, but I fully expect this to be a close game down to the bitter end.

I'm glad I no longer have one playing, it will be much more enjoyable watching without sitting on pins and needles every play.:D

That was a good one!!
This one is a hard one to call. The fact that this is being played at Wylie's house is a huge factor IMO. They are extremely hard to beat at home. But, LH will be bringing the team to do it.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind LH knocking them down a few notches- sorry, Dawgs.

Rankings don't mean anything to the person that is ranked, but it sure does to that team that isn't. ;)
