Beeville went 3 and out to start. Their second drive ended with an int. Cuero is driving and they are inside the Trojan 30 right now.

Trojans are slow on the draw? Maybe they are waiting for something to kick it up notch?

I agree - hope it's nothing serious! Wish I could have heard what the jerk from Beeville was yelling while #22 was on the ground. But they were getting their A$$ handed to them pretty good at that time so it was probably some frustration. Good game Gobblers - got another tough game next week.

Hope our RB is all right . I was a little annoyed with that tackle that put him out it was a put you out of commission tackle in my book ...not good on Beeville's part .

The kid reminds me of the way the Buse kid from Wimberley ran the ball *A bull in a China Store. * Cuero is going to do well with him running the ball .

Really not sure you can say you did not see Beeville with much. They have a good QB that will win alot of games for them this year. They were up against a very big, fast team. You can bet they will win alot of games this year.

I did not hear or see anything on that play!

I did hear The Trojans yelling profanities to their own player when their player was down hurt on our sideline!!

The tackle by #21? It was a "tackle or you score" kind of tackle. Not pretty to see, but not dirty. I do apologize for the Beeville fans who cheered when one of your players went down. Guess they were looking for a positive spin on what turned out to be a pretty good whipping dished out by Cuero. Best of luck the rest of the way.

I agree about the tackle. #21 would have been runned over if he didn't go low. But theres nothing postive about a player getting hurt, no matter the team or the score. But i do understand what you are saying.

Arndt sparks Gobblers

BY MIKE FORMAN - MFORMAN@VICAD.COM
August 30, 2008 - 2:30 a.m.

CUERO -– Tyler Arndt feels like a kid in a candy store operating the Cuero offense.

“We have a lot of guys who can do things and I try to get the ball to all of them,” the Cuero quarterback said. “I still have people I go to when I need them, but I try to get the ball to as many people as I can.”

No. 6 Cuero took advantage of its offensive firepower to run off with a 46-14 season-opening win over Beeville on Friday night at Gobbler Stadium.

“We had to use everybody,” Cuero coach Mark Reeve said. “This is the first game and I thought that was a big key for us. We used a lot of guys on both sides of the ball. It’s one of the things that’s been good for us to have a little depth. We got a lot of guys in there.”

The Gobblers, who advanced to the Class 3A semifinals last season, had 10 players carry the ball and four catch passes while rolling up 428 yards of offense. Cuero had five different players score touchdowns and extended its home winning streak to 25 games.

Cole Pargmann rushed for 99 yards and one touchdown and had two catches for 25 yards before sitting out the second half with a twisted ankle. Brent Johnson rushed for 59 yards and freshman Trent Jackson added 31 yards and a touchdown. Arndt rushed three times for 55 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown run, and completed eight of 13 passes for 150 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown pass to Robert Armstrong.

The Gobblers also scored on runs of 3 and 1 yards by Troy Ruiz and a 4-yard run by Jake Rangnow.

“I thought we ran it well,” Reeve said. “Our offensive coaches came up with a great game plan. Of course, Tyler had a heck of a ballgame. We were able to run the draw early. We did some different things as far as blocking the toss. We tried to take advantage of how well they were coached and do some things on that. We got by with some stuff that we might not be able to get by with down the line.”

Beeville, which advanced to the Class 4A quarterfinals last season, had 362 yards of offense. But the Trojans only scores came on runs of 5 yards by Frank Warner and 31 yards by Val Valdez in the first half.

“We learned that we’re not a very good team right now,” Beeville coach Chris Soza said. “We’ve got a lot of young kids that are playing and we’ve got a lot of kids that are banged up. They’ve got a good ballclub. We knew that and we’ve got a long way to go.”

Beeville quarterback Eric Soza rushed 12 times for 83 yards and completed 10 of 22 passes for 155 yards, but was intercepted twice -- by Jake Rangnow in the first half and Jennings Boothe in the second half.

“Our coaching staff did a great job,” Reeve said. “We had a good plan for them on the defensive side. That’s a tough offense, especially when you’ve got a kid like the Soza kid over there. He’s a great competitor.”

Cuero went up 13-0 on Ruiz’s first touchdown run and Arndt’s pass to Armstrong, who out-leaped a Beeville defender in the back of the end zone. Beeville pulled to 13-7 on Warner’s run. The Gobblers scored on runs by Arndt and Pargmann before the Trojans made it 26-14 when Valdez fooled the Cuero defense on a belly draw.

Pargmann ran 46 yards and Arndt and Boothe connected on a 26-yard pass to set up Ruiz’s second touchdown run with 3 seconds left in the first half. Cuero put the game away on runs by Rangnow in the third quarter and Jackson in the fourth quarter.

“There are some things we need to work on,” Arndt said. “For the first game, I thought we did pretty well.”

Rushing – Beeville, Eric Soza 12-83; Val Valdez 5-50; Aaron Shirley 9-36; Frank Warner 6-29; Devin O’Leary 2-7; Jordan Nelson 1-2. Cuero, Cole Pargmann 6-99; Brent Johnson 11-59; Tyler Arndt 3-55; Trent Jackson 6-31; Troy Ruiz 4-17; Andrew Thibodeaux 2-12; Jake Rangnow 3-9; Robert Armstrong 1-(-1); David Vega 1-(-1); Team 1-(-2).

Passing – Beeville, Soza 10-22-2 155. Cuero, Arndt 8-13-1 150.

Receiving – Frank Gutierrez 2-63; Valdez 2-37; Matthew Botello 3-23; Derrell Jackson 1-17; Warner 1-11; O’Leary 1-3. Cuero, Armstrong 4-79; Jennings Boothe 1-26; Pargmann 2-25; Tanner Hoffman 1-20.
