I dont think one can read too much into this game regarding LH. One game at the beginning of a season is not something to judge the rest of the season...but next week? THAT will be the test against Wylie.

I still say LH should be considered THE team to beat. We shall see what happens next week. If they stumble next week, they will hear it from the doom-sayers. But its way to early to judge them just now.

Giddings, on the other hand, should come away with a great deal of momentum.

I didnt get to go, but I listened on KMAC. When LH put the ball on the ground early and recovered, i was thinking if they do that late and turn it over it will be huge for Giddings. Well it was.....those two second half turn overs were huge......Great job by the Buffs staying in there....

Let me give you an example of where I am coming from. I was a die-hard Oiler fan in the Earl Campbell days...god I loved that team. But I HATED the Steelers. I mean HATED the Steelers.

Both teams played well and hard. Our boys don't need to hang their heads. I know they wanted to knock LH off, but they looked good tonite trying.

Both teams had some mistakes they can work on for sure. Turnovers by LH, and penalties by giddings. Not to mention a few miscommunications or going the wrong direction by giddings.

The missed extra point on our first TD did put us in a little hole. B/c you know that LH is going to keep getting down the field, and it isn't fun to have to count on going for 2, especially count on one to try and force OT.

Good game LH, good luck out west. We will try and take care of business and head south for the first time in a while.

Like I said Buff, Giddings is the big winner here...other than the score in a pre-district game. A perfect record doesnt mean crap...ask '06 Liberty Hill.

I would bet the coaches for Giddings are feeling a lot better right about now than the coaches from LH (not to say LH should be hanging its head..they DID win).

LH coaches have nothing to be ashamed of other than the few things I spoke of earlier, turnovers and penalties.

They just beat a giddings team at home, that hasn't happened in something like 12 or 13 games at our home stadium and only 1 or 2 in the last 20 to 25 w/o looking it up.

Extremely proud of the Buffs. What a great game and effort. Even though we didn't come out on top, the Buffs WAO was there from start to finish.

A few areas to work on (penalties killed us) but to hang that tough with Liberty Hill & their program is saying a lot.

A few skirmishes but, all in all, a good matchup regarding sportsmanship.

AND how about that #6, never played a day in his life as QB, Way to go Rush. I had some serious doubts about moving you from LB, but coach always knows best and you did a good job for your first time out.

Glad that game is behind us, now on to preparing for district.

Great game Giddings. You guys played very tough tonight. This was a very sloppy game for both sides. Giddings line was very good and there option game was very hard to stop. Good job. Our two turnovers killed us in the second half both were around the 15 yd line going in to score. Hats off to Giddings. I think you guys will win your district and go deep in the playoffs. Actually if you improve on the little things you guys have a great shot at winning your region. Good luck to you the rest of the way.

This opinion is from someone who wasn't at this game, but wasn't entirely surprised at the final score. They saw Giddings last season and said that they had a lot of talent at the skill positions, but they just didn't use it that often because of how everything revolved around Fitzhenry.

It's probably a good bet that Giddings is going to be far better than some folks seem to think that they currently are.

You are on to something. Giddings will be much more of a TEAM this year. And they are a very good TEAM.

Congrats to both teams, it was an exciting game to watch. LH, I think, had 5 fumbles and recovered 3. You can’t do this and except to win when playing a quality team such as Giddings, but we managed to pull it out by the skin of our teeth.

LH definitely has some things to work on, on both sides of the ball. But that’s the great thing about playing tough teams early, it helps prepare you for when it really counts.

Giddings is a good football team, I think both teams have a very exciting season ahead of them.

Of course, I'm not a Liberty Hill homer either. But I really like LHPM and her son is a very respectful,well mannered young man and a great athlete. All that being said, you gotta respect Coach Vance for what he has done for LH football. Plus, he is not afraid to schedule the toughest teams in Texas, especially this year and last years. The next couple of games is like 'Murders Row' in 3A Texas HS football. Good Luck!!!

I dont know how the Panthers will respond to it...but you can definitely expect EVERY team to be playing their best against you this year. I think the Buffs had a little of this going last night.

So, Runnin Panther, my guess is that you are in for a wrenching season (as compared to last year) as far as close games go. I bet you win those games (maybe 1 loss before play offs...who knows), but to be honest with you, this will be your most enjoyable season yet!!! You have to admit, the rush is fantastic!

Heck, I didn't even predict we'd win that I recall. :doh: You are correct about the target - the coaches and players know it's there and how big it is. And it wouldn't surprise me with the caliber of teams on our schedule this year to see us lose one or two. When an opponent spends a portion of almost every practice for the season working on defending our offense, it will be a close one.

And LHexplayer - I've said the same thing for 2 years about the TEAM aspect. Good post! :clap:

wimbo_pro you are exactly right, the Buffs definitely came into the game prepared and in the right frame or mind. They wanted a piece of the Panthers. The boys know they have HUGE target on their backs and everybody is going to bring their A game when they play us, they talk about it all the time. But I think it helps them dig down and work harder because they don’t want to let each other, their school or the guys who went before them down.

Right after the game last night I walked up to congratulate my son and he had that look on his face and I said why so mad and all he said is we got work to do. I heard another kid tell his Grandma don’t even tell me I played good as she walked up to him. Point being the boys were mad instead of being excited. I know the coaches will use this to make them a better team.

With our schedule we will defiantly be battle tested by the time we hit district play.

Rocket you need to slow your roll. I said the Panthers would win by 21, by the way I think I have being saying that for every game for the last 2 years. If we don’t fumble in the second half I think we would have done just that.

And if you go back and read some of my previous posts about this upcoming season I said we have a couple of areas of concerns where young kids are going to have to step in and fill big shoes left behind. This was the first game the new kids will come along. The coaches learned a lot last night. We will get better just like everybody else.

This game was a strange one. We could have won this game 41-20. We should have won this game 41-20. We also could have lost this game, and in a lot of ways we should have lost this game. Again my hat is off to Giddings on your option game. We never stopped the option power game. We could only get the stops when you started to pass. But our offense was never stopped either by Giddings. We just shot ourselves in the foot with the fumbles. I said that whoever has the turnovers will lose this game. I was wrong. We somehow still won this game.


And on the score predictions. Heck I made one that was like 42-20 or something like that. I just wanted to get Giddings to wake up and talk some smack. So who cares about the score predictions. No crow needs to be eaten from this game. We LH fans suffered enough last night as our blood pressure was going higher and higher.

I'm also not going to act like we don't have issues because we do. Every team has issues at this point and if you don't think you do. Then you have either not played anyone worth a damn or you are peaking way too soon. I'm more concerned right now in seeing if this team can get better from game to game. That is the goal of predistrict. The goal is not to stay undeafeted or to maintain this dumb win streak. If we start playing to maintain a 25 game win streak we will only focus on that and not on what we need to work on. I fully trust our coaches to do what is necessary to make us better. From what I saw last night they too have some kinks to work out.

This was the worst game I have seen Liberty Hill play in over two years. I think that says a lot about the heart and character of this team, to think they dug down and found a way to win. To win on the road to a top 20 3a team. A Giddings team with a lot of pride on their turf. This was a tough place to play. Not many teams can say they beat Giddings in Giddings. So for that effort and desire to win I take my hate off to the Panther players and coaches. It sounds like the boys have there head right and they know they have work to do. So lets get it done. Just play ball and have fun. The rest will work itself out as the season goes on.

Great game Giddings!! You played as a team, and you executed really well. Your new quarterback is a tough, talented player, and your offensive line really performed. No team has been able to gain yards like this against us in the last 20+ games. You will go far this year.

I pretty agree much with LHexplayer. While you may think it was one of the worst games you've seen LH play, I'd like to think we were one of the best teams you've played against.:clap: :clap:

I also agree it could have been a wider margin if it weren't for the fumbles. :doh: Also, it could have been a win for Giddings if their timing was better on offense. Too many untimely penalties.

I got home and watched the video KVUE showed on the failed 2pt conversion on TIVO, and with that camera angle I can't really see what happened. I think they called his knee down before the ball crossed the plane but all I could see was a "scrum" of players falling on the goal line...

Both teams can hold their heads high. There were many players on both sides that made some spectacular plays. I've watched Cody play for years and I saw more good sportsmanship in that young man than I ever have before. I was totally impressed with his play. I think he's going to have a great year while keeping it classy and fun.

Rush Plumlee's 1st game as a QB was great. Yes, there were miscues on offense but an option QB has a lot to handle.

LHPM and Buff4life(ever), it was nice meeting you both. Hope to do it again at the Bwood/LH game.:clap: :clap:

In the end, I was glad to see the mutual respect everyone had for each other....Maybe next year!!!

I wasn't near a computer until this morning, so I wanted to throw in my two cents.
Giddings showed up to play, and they impressed the heck out of me. Their first offensive possession ate up almost the entire first quarter, and usually that is our M-O!
It was a hard fought battle, and both teams, as has been stated repeatedly here, should be proud. My son commented on what a great sport your QB was.
As far as the Panthers not having any state champ quality players left, that is just silly talk. The same thing has been said every year for the past four years..."LH lost too many to graduation", or "too big of shoes to fill"...and yet each year that passes our record, and our team has been better and better. It's the beauty of our system...you don't have to have the amazing outstanding athletes (althought IMO we certainly do)...as long as everyone does their job and executes, we'll see success.
Another personal opinion, there are some personnel issues going on, and I'm not quite convinced that we have the best person for the position in some of our key spots...but I guess if they want me to consult, they'll call, right? I have the utmost confidence and it is proven that our coaches get the job done...this year will be no different.
It isn't going to be the cake-walk that we had last year, when we were never really even challenged...but that difference is in the opponents and the schedule, not in the Panthers....we'll be as good as ever.

Watched the film last night. Both defenses were having trouble stopping the others offense all night. Buffs offense kept shooting theirselves in the foot with penalties that put them in long yardage situations yet almost every time they came through with enough yardage for the first down. Buffs defense came out second half ready to do whatever they could to get the ball back. Still no stopping LH offense but the Buffs D was intense, swarming, and slapping the ball. Great job by the D to play hard and make something happen. LH offense fumbled a total of 5 times, three were slip ups on the handoffs or snap but the two at the end of the game were caused by the Buff defense, one namely Trey Masek #7 coming from behind and slapping the ball out of Lattimore's hands.
Giddings defense had a lot of missed tackles and the Giddings O line dominated LH defense.

Questionable as to whether LH defense is weak or Buffs offense is a little better than expected???? LH offense is the real deal and I was impressed at how polished/effiicent they were for the 1st game and I knew Giddings young D would have alot to learn quickly. But hey, the defense rose to the occasion, albeit late in the game and made it happen. Tackling wasn't working, so let's just cause some turnovers. Sounds like a great game plan to me..

all these thoughts about LH playing bad are not true, Panthers played well and played hard, Buffs took care of the ball better but have to improve on the penalties. LH just got a taste of their own medicine (methodically going down the field, eating up the clock)leaving some stunned that it could happen, and lots on here thinking Giddings was finished with the loss of Brock, Dock, Locke and the crew. Both teams have great seasons ahead of them, LH is under alot of pressure (Buffs should know, we carried the target last year) Both teams are well coached and have great athletes.

Very proud of the Giddings Buffs...They showed everyone who was there what WAO Buffalo football is all about. On to LaVernia to see if they can do it again.
