What's the deal with Gustav, specifically what's he gonna do in Texas?

First I heard it was going to be a Category 5 and hitting Houston this weekend.

Next was that it will be a smaller category and be hitting Houston early Monday.

The came it was hitting Houston late Monday/ early Tuesday.

Now, I don't know what storm or Hurricane it will be, when its hitting Texas, or if its going to be bad.

Help?

These are several different computer models run this morning. These are all possibilities at this point.

Of the 6 models shown, 3 show the storm taking a left turn before hitting the northern Gulf Coast and another just after! Upper air patterns must be predicted to be out of the northeast at that point driving the storm toward the Texas coast.

I think the news said an area of high pressure is developing near Houston or something like that. It is that area that would cause the storm to turn more west.

Southeast Texas, including Orange and Jefferson Counties, is under a mandatory evacuation beginning at 6:00 a.m. Sunday. The county and local authorities with the state people met and made this determination. IH 10 from Orange to Beaumont and west has been jammed all day from LA residents leaving. Highways 62 and 87 North are backing up or moving slowly.

Looks to me like it's gonna hit along the Miss.-La. line. makin a more northerly than north-westerly run now. I know one thing the Florida Keys are gettin hammered right now.

We are breathing a bit better here in Orange now. Nothing is being taken for granted though. Rita was headed at Matagorda only to make a sharp right turn up to our back door. I am tired from watching and interpreting these stinking models. It is fun and a cool admin friend of mine is a GREAT help.
