burkburnet is killing them..... cant stop the big play it sounds like. bb had a real big (65yard gain) on their first drive only to fumble next play. if they get it together this one could get ugly for sweetwater.

rufus mccain is only one that is moving the ball for sweetwater, which hasnt been very much.

Sounds like Sweetwater is somehow staying in this game so far. Maybe they will wake up.

sweetwater's throwing the ball? 2-2 this drive for about 8 yards each. 1:07 left in the half, mustangs fighting for yards. another pass to fields, inside the 25 yards, for a 3rd and short. Sweetwater throws again, down to the 12, in and out of the receivers hands. pitch to the outside, hit in the backfield and brought down just before the first down mark, turnover on downs, BB's ball with 22 seconds left. BB takes a knee, 3-0 halftime.

sweetwater kicks off to BB, touchback.

sw seems to have the defense woken up, BB cant get anything started and punts the ball to the 34yard line.

sw comes out and passes first play again, incomplete. 2nd down, option right, qb keeps and brings it to the 46 yard line. 3rd down, option, qb keeps it again and brings it into BB territory, to the 42 yard line.

first down, up the middle to the 40. 2nd, another 3 yards. 3rd down, fumbled... BB ball at their own 39.

DU_stud04
08-28-2008, 09:09 PM
BB starting the drive, sw gets good pressure and gets the rb for a 7 yard loss. 2nd-17 incomplete. 3rd down, qb throws the ball over the receivers head. 4th-17 BB punts to sw, short punt to the sw 31 yard line.

3-0 BB
5 minutes left in the 3rd.

DU_stud04
08-28-2008, 09:13 PM
sw, throws the ball again on first down, receiver catches the ball, officials say he is out of bounds. 2nd-10, option keeper for 3 yards. 3rd-7, option to the left, no gain. 4th and long, punts downs the ball around the 18 yard line.

BB's ball.

DU_stud04
08-28-2008, 09:23 PM
BB: 1st down, option left, sounds like the whole team tackled the rb for a loss. 2nd, runs it up the side for a 17 yard gain.

BB: 32 yard line, 1st down on the reverse, tackled for a loss again. facemask on sw. (lots of complaining about the backjudge thowing flags from 35 yards out for the call)

BB: 1st -10 47 yard line, 3 yard gain.2nd down, 5 yard gain. 3rd-2, qb sneek, short of first. 4th-1..... officials are measuring it... 4th and half a yard... qb up the side for the first down.

BB: 1-10,rb fumbles the ball, and BB recovers it.

end of 3rd quarter

BB 3-0.

BB: rb takes it up the middle to the 31 yard line. 3rd-1 qb keeper, to the 29.

BB: 1-10, pitch to the rb for 5 yards. 2nd-5, loss of 1 yard. 3rd-6, pass complete to the 15 yard line.

BB: 1st-10, qb fumbled, recovered by BB. 2nd-12 at the 17 yard line, rb to the outside, td.

sw: 8:20 left, 1st-10, qb pitch to mccoy for a nice gain inside the bb 33 yardline.

BB: 5 yard penalty, 1st-15, from their own 10, pass complete for a gain of 2. 2nd-13, hand off to fb, gets about 1/2 yard. 3rd-12, sacked inside the 5 yard line. qb, throws ball out the back of the endzone when getting up, coach wants a delay of game.... sw time out. 4th down.

I was at this game for most of the second half. Burkburnett is OK, without the Gould kid they are average at best. He really puts them over the top. Sweetwater is tough folks. They've got a bunch of good looking kids that play hard. Burk did get a few calls in my opinion and there were several times where Burk should have been called for flagrant personal fouls. Burk played dirty. I had already heard this from an area coach that is well respected. The Burk kids proved him right to me tonight.

Right before Gould scored Burk's TD, I felt that the side judge on Sweetwater's sideline really blew the call on a pass to the sideline. From where I was at the receiver's left foot was clearly on the line. Granted, he did keep his right toes glued to the carpet, but the left was clearly on the line. It was right in front of Getrdonestangs. I'm interested to see what his view of the play was since it was about 15 feet away from him. (that is Megan's dad's handle right???)

I was at the game. Sweetwater is very average. They have good looking kids, but didn't put much together this evening. Burk has some speed and they got inside the 20 3-4 times. At that point, it seemed like they got away from what got them there and they wound up going for 3 a few times. Their TB scored on a toss sweep to the rt, except he stopped on a dime and cutbac across the grain for a nice run. Both teams had a few play both ways.

All in all it looked like the first game for both teams and I am sure they will get better.

My recap: We had a really bland offense that needs improvement, pluses were we didnt have our starting RB or our starting TE. The DT that burk had was taken on the whole night 1 on 1 by our center Josh Ross and was kept out of the backfield the whole game. We gave up big plays but our redzone defense was stout. Had too many dropped balls and a dumb roughing the punter penalty that cost us a touchdown.

Mustangpride09
08-29-2008, 01:37 AM
Another thing that pissed me off was how long it was taking the refs to spot the ball inside 3 minutes. We should have gotten the ball back with at least 1 minute left but instead got it back with 10 seconds. It was pretty rediculous.

My 3 cents as seen from the Sweetwater sideline:

Sweetwater had 3 key starters out...2 DE's (Adamez, Holsey)and one very stout running back (Jackson... they should all be back next week.

It was definaely a 1st game of the season, we had some dropped passes and missed the reciever a few times as well, We had to burn TO's at in opportune times. These early season mistakes are expected and should be reduced.

Earlier posts mentioned the refs....I will only elaborate on one call....BB had a 3rd and long and passed to the sideline the pass was clearly caught out of bounds...left foot (leading) way up in the air and right foot (trailing) CLEARLY landed in the middle of the stripe. And at my feet as I stood behind the "Line" The side judge was looking at the back judge or somewhere else and had that (deer with headlights in eyes look) as he finaly marked the ball in bounds. He had no clue and made a very poor judgement call in my opinion.

BB scored only TD a couple of plays later.

my outlook on the game and yes i was there. Not having starting DE adamez hurt greatly but i think even worse not havin starting RB daniel jackson hurt worse tonight because every other back starts on defence. i thought some people stepped up nicely and i am still wondering about some of the play calls. And as far as burkburnett goes. They just made more plays. coming into the game i knew there #5 was going to be a stud but what impressed me more was the speed of there whole D. wow. it was a good game even though sweetwater really didnt show up till 3 min left in the game but i think once everyones healthy they'l start clickin. i stil think they will suprise many and im ready to see what they become

Thanks for the rundown Ted. This thread is the first info I have seen on the game. I hate it that we lost, but all in all it appears our boys made a pretty valient effort, and actually made a pretty good showing even with 3 very key starters out. Adamez alone can certainly be a game changer, as is the same with Jackson.
I am also incouraged to hear they are working on the passing game. If they can get effective with that other teams defenses wont be able to just load up on stopping the run like we have seen for far tooooooooooooo many years.
Sounds like they can take some good things away from this game and can identify some areas that need work, so from what I'm reading here I still have high hopes of having a pretty solid football team that can compete well for one of the coveted playoff spots in this nightmare of a district.
Sad that most likely two very good teams will be staying home for the playoffs from this district, and I still think theres a very good chance that it may not be who most people are thinking. It may well come down to who is the healthiest those last couple of weeks that decides all three playoff spots. And I still think we will see tie breaker scenarios in play on that last Friday night that will make the final determination. Man this is going to be fun to watch!!!

http://web.timesrecordnews.com/pdf/sports.pdf Here's a cool pick from the game. The guy who writes the article on the left says that the score doesn't indicate how much better than Sweetwater Burkburnett really is. I don't think he knows about your missing starters though.

So much for going 10-0.:D

It would be impossible for me to evaluate the game from
listening to it on the radio and not being there in person. I will
say this though. Every one from Matthew Stepp to Jerry Forrest
had us as the underdog. If we would of won it would of been
an upset and we had the ball with a chance to do that as time
expired.

Sweetwater will be just fine and ready to go next week against
Seminole. After all, we are the best 0-1 2-3A team in the state.
