Whoever starts at QB for Baylor will either be Brownwood's Kirby Freeman or Copperas Coves's Robert Griffin. Briles says he has made up his mind but won't announce it or tell the players till just before game time. 23 yr old Sr. or a 17 yr old Fr. But, Briles did say that both will play.

I have seen it posted on Brownwood web site that today Briles anounced Freeman the starter for tonight

IMO, Briles made the right decision based on college playing experience. However, I'm sure we'll see Griffin get in the game. He could play the same role that I hope John Chiles finally plays for the Horns this year (lining up some at QB, RB and WR).

i think that was based on the chronicle reporting (which is almost alway wrong about baylor football, if the chronicle says it you can almost guarantee it isnt true when it comes to baylor)...the waco paper said they thought griffin would be the starter w/ Freeman 3rd string....Griffin and Syzmanski (last year's QB) have apparantly been practicing w/ the 1st team and Freeman w/ the 2nd...so take that for what its worth, we'll find out in a few hours...

Kirby is going to start. Griffin at QB as a true freshman? LOL I may be way off, I just don't see Griffin effectively running a system offense like Briles runs... Griffin at RB? maybe...

Probably not. Probably gonna be Jeremy Sanders at running back. A LOT bigger built than Griffin.

I believe Pittsburg's Kendal Wright is starting at WR for Baylor as a true freshmen.

Griffin has incredible raw talent and is for sure the QB of the future for Baylor. I am sure he will be worked into the starting role in the future, maybe even this season. But being the homer that I am, I sure hope Kirby takes this time to prove him self and keeps the job all season.

Why not? Baylor has nothing to lose. Lol. Sanders is 6'2" 210, Griffin is a little thinner. Like you said, we'll see in a few hours. I do know that Sanders isn't in the QB talk for sure anymore though.

Briles has a history of starting true freshmen, see Kevin Kolb...its possible, and from what i have heard of Freeman practicing w/ the 2nd string it appears he isnt even 2nd QB but 3rd....however appearances and my 2nd hand knowledge can be deceiving...

Freeman didn't.....their defense did....Freeman won't be starting midway through the season

I agree. But Baylor has more to do with this score right now than Wake. Baylor has not gotten their offense into any kind of rythm. And their defense looks slow right now. It's early in the Briles era, so I'm sure things will change.

Same old Baylor so far. Looks like another 2-3 win season in Waco. They'll probably start playing most of the young guys by the 5th or 6th game.

IMO , he should have started Griffen , he's the future..Plus Griffen gives you more run options then Kirby.these receivers need to learn how to hold on too the ball..

I thought that Briles was suppose to be so innovative on offense. He hasn't shown me anything tonight.

Briles need to sign another quarterback. Freeman only last three series and he was out.

Griffin is very, very good. The players he's surrounded with, well not so much. Hopefully Coach Briles can bring in some talented players to put around him.

Maybe he played Freeman to show everyone he wasn't going to cut it. Then he wouldn't have to here the calls for Freeman if Griffin struggled a little. Now he has shown Freeman is nothing special and he can play the freshman and work towards the future.

That move was sick! For a true freshman I think Griffin looks good. As usual, they have kinks to work out but you can't deny it, that kid can play.

Obviously you did not hear Briles say, before the game that G3 would come into the game during the 2nd quarter. There is no doubt that G3 lights up the team. I am impressed.

Not gonna even go into the Kirby bashing. Just wanna say I hate to see things go the way they did for him :( . He IS a good QB and a great kid. I wish him the best of luck!
As for Griffin, I too was impressed. He was definately not perfect but dag gum, he sure showed more than I expected to see from him. That "move" was purty awesome! Good luck to the Bears!

What exactly did Griffin do that was so good besides make a couple of flashy moves? He is a poor man's Vince Young at best. Great athlete, good kid, and a smart one, no doubt. WF had to protect the run when G3 was in, which made the outs wide open, which made G3 LOOK better than Kirby. I do agree that kirby didn't do much in the first 3 series, but that INT wasn't his fault. It was right on the numbers, the kid blew the reception. Either way, they got a lot to improve on and I hope they do well.

Griffin at best showed some flashes of what he could do. The thing that puts him over the top of Freeman is he is a freshman and has more upside. But at this point that is about it. Also he reminds me a lot of Reggie McNeal. Baylor's receivers had tons of drops which will kill any QB.

I just said Kirby Freeman sucks and here is why I think that

2005
15/31 188 yards 2 tds 2 ints 48.5 completion %
2006
59/108 872 yards 7 tds 8 ints 54.6 completion %
2007
18/58 256 yards 3 tds 6 ints 31 competion %

Through one game with Baylor
4/11 31 yards 2 ints 36.4 completion %

Freeman probably won't be seeing anything except some garbage time during blowouts the rest of the season. Never was impressed with him at Miami and there's no good reason not to have Griffin starting the rest of the year. He's younger and more importantly he's just head and shoulders above Freeman talent-wise.
