Well, I wasn't going to start a thread on this game, but I figured it would be a good time to see what posters from Navasota we have ready for the football season.

Navasota has a lot of improvement to make in the offensive line, and Henderson should be a good opportunity to work on it without getting mauled. I have done some research, and it indicates that they are rather inexperienced or unathletic on the D-Line, depending on the source. Regardless, they are a 4A school and will have some depth. Our skill position players are just as good if not better this year, so if they can get into the open field, the Rattlers will find ways to score. I worry more about getting big gains and dying around the goal line than anything else.

The Rattler defense looks to be quicker than last year, and there may even be more size along the line, despite previous reports. They are looking like a bunch that wants to hit somebody, but several hard hits were nothing more than shoulder pad pops without wrapping up in the scrimmage against Mexia. With no TDs being scored on the first team defense in both scrimmages, I think that they can get the job done.

My prediction Navasota 41, Henderson 20.

I am a little worried about the o-line. They will have to do a better job of protecting the qb and the backs. A. Calhoun along with the others who didn't play during the scrimmage should be available on Thursday. With Calhoun in the line up, that will instantly improve blocking.

As far as the defensive side of the ball, I think that the Rattlers are better this year than last at this point. Hopefully the d will be enough to slow down the Lions until the o-line gets their act together.

I think the game will be close early, but I dont think that Lions have the horses to stay with the Rattlers. Previously, I predicted the Rattlers to win by 28. That was before seeing the Rattlers scrimmage. I never imagined that they would have problems on the o line.

Navasota 35 Henderson 14

Is Henderson even going to show up? Didn't they forfeit a game last year...wasn't it Giddings...they just decided "hey, we don't wanna get trounced that bad". For some reason that sticks out in my mind. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Navasota will play the first game with all the returning hosses on the field for the first time this year. Pratt breaks 200 yards and there will be at least three passing TD's for Stokes. Defense will stop Henderson cold for three quarters and they will finally break through in the 4th for a couple of scores. Navasota by at least 30 in this one.

With all the "know what their talking abouts" that have picked Navasota to very good this year I hope the Rattler's don't come out flat and go 0-1 to start the year.

Henderson will not lay down unless the Rattler's press their will on them. You know this 4A team does not want to start off with a loss to a 3A team so the Rattler's must be sharp.

This years Rattler's have not proven anything so they better be ready for a fight.

Last year was great fun but you got to prove it every year.

GO RATTLERS!

Henderson has size and speed along with some good athletes
Hendersons head coach Dickey Meeks said out of 31 years of
coaching running back Telvin Fryman is as good of a back
that he has coached . On the defensive side of the ball he said
they will probably l be faster than they have been in a long time " almost all of the kids that are seniors on defense started for me my first year here " . We are very experinced at the skill positions on offense and defense . They will be a good test for us (Rattlers )
don't let last years 4-6 record fool you they are like us getting better each year. In 1989 coach Meeks coached Chappell Hill to the class 4A state championship . BTW I saw game flim on them
this weekend from their scrimmage they are gonna be pretty good.

Well, there you go folks. Gotta go with the Coach on this one. If he says it, he knows it. That was the year they beat A&M Consol for the title. I was at that game, since I lived in College Station until I was 9.

I'm sure he will be in Lufkin before they open the gates. Give him a coaching shirt and a whistle, so he can fire them Rattlers up. :D

A win, I hope. An easy win is never a good thing for a team looking to prove it belongs. But thanks for the support! I hope Caldwell proves people wrong again this year.
